Discussion thread about Zed and the direction they are taking him

I think that with the nerf to Zed's attack speed they are experimenting with him being a bit of a AD caster assassin instead of a auto-attack assassin.

If they are heading that direction I think they should completely remove his W passive and add more base damage or scaling to his abilities. His W passive makes him relevant even if he's a bit behind the rest of the game. As a Zed player, I can say that Zed can put himself in safe situations if skill is present, and it's easy to kill any squishy on the enemy team with a quick E Q and 2 - 3 auto attacks. I think he should be a bit more of a skillshot assassin rather than the slow you then aa you till passive proc assassin.

Not only will this make it harder for Zed to make kills, but he will need to build raw AD items and really utilize his shadows in order to stay safe, considering that right now he uses utility AA weapons with lifesteal and slows; as old attack speed zed you could literally duel anyone who lacked burst, by just using autoattacks if he had lifesteal.

Do you guys think that this is the direction they are taking Zed, as a AD caster skillshot assassin instead of the in-your-face auto attack assassin he is right now? And if so, are they doing the correct thing?

(Please don't complain here, I am aware of the QQ Zed recieves because of the mana-nerfs that stopped mages from being able spam before the first mana-regen item)

I think it's alright for Zed to still be somewhat autoattack-reliant (he is an AD champion, after all); the issue with him until now was just that his autoattacking power was so good that he could push far too well and depend too little on his spells to kill champions. If Zed had to be nerfed any further, I'd rather cut down on his safety by reducing the speed of his shadows and/or increasing their cooldown, at least in the early game. It would also make his poke easier to dodge in lane, and so would reduce frustration. However, he seems to be doing alright now, so that may not even be necessary.

Its also weird that Zed can rush Botrk/Blade/IE/LW

I would have to disagree on the part about the shadows, their cooldown is perfectly fine right now in my opinion, compared to someone like leblanc who's dash has way more going for them.

Safety has always been why zed is such a powerful champion, his ability to manipulate a lane and mess with someone's head while draining their health bar is what makes him a ninja.

The main problem with Zed, is when the mana nerfs started.

I was all for Mana nerfs and I even play as a mage alot of the time, the ability to endlessly spam after one item was not healthy for the game, but they may have overdone it in my opinion and now energy-based/resource-less champions that were perfectlly balanced before, are untouched and have slight advantages in the early game. This advantage if not taken seriously by the enemy mage can lead to heavy snowballing and bronze complaints on the forums.

If we want to balance zed, lets look at our two fundamental mana regeneration items first and if Riot keeps them the way they are, then Zed's energy usage and regeneration MUST be hit.

Getting rid of his passive on hitting multiple targets with his shadow and regaining energy should do this.

That being said, his energy COSTS should remain the same, because if he is becoming an AD caster then he should be able to use a full rotation at full energy, in order to have kill potential.

That's my stance on balancing him.

Well Riot did say they are bringing compensation to the mages so I would wait and see what happens. To be honest, riot has to stop nerfing and just buff. Imo Zed is perfectly fine, other champs just need to be tweaked to be on par with him.

Six months ago Zed was the most balanced assassin in the game, he has only been nerfed since then and he is the most OP assassin in the game.

Alot of the people don't even know why, and complain on here whenever they lose to him. It's a vicious cycle and one day a ___ main will be considered OP instead of Zed and we zed mains can rest.
