Is it just me or is the game too fast now?

All during my placements and the 3 games I played today I feel like nothing I do matters because my playstyle is a relic of past eras. I learned the game in season 2 and have kinda stuck to that 'stick out for the late game' mentality ever since. Problem is now more than ever it seems that I can't do things how I have been because no matter what I'm playing nearly every game feels over before the 10 minute mark. I know 14 games isn't a large sample size but I'd expect at least one of them to feel like it's relatively fair until the mid game. Like.. I've been trying to experiment more with Illaoi top, see if there's something I can't potentially discover about her, and I just feel like trying to do anything as anyone that isn't a snowball monster or early game threat is worthless. By the time teamfights roll around the game is already so lopsided.

Not really trying to complain, I'm still positive in terms of winrates, but I just feel like I had no hand any of my games and it's frustrating. Am I just experiencing short term variance in the form of extreme stomps or is this kinda thing just the norm right now? Is there anything I can be doing to have more impact?

I tend to agree.

I believe it has a lot to do with turrets being neutered versions of what they used to be.... Riot wants the game to be fast, but personally I liked it better when games went on longer.

If my game goes past the 40 minute mark. I just kinda stop caring as much and I find ways to end the game. (Preferably in my favor)

I might agree, but I just got out of a game that went on for over an hour.

Maybe its just me but I've had quite a few 40-60 minute games recently. That might be more to people not knowing how to close out the game though.
