League of legends, and the "scapegoat effect"
This is a post on the psychological effects happening in the average game. what i say may offend certain thin-skinned individuals. and to that, i say, 'f*ck off'. this is for people who are open minded to perspectives and ideas, and not for people who get 'triggered' at the tiniest things.
With that out of the way, lets talk psychology.
Everyone here (i hope) knows the Meta. The worst player loses the game, gg game over, you lose, you dont matter unless you're the worst, etc etc.
with this in mind, it brings up certain ideas and theories in psychology. The Scapegoat Effect. When people are frustrated, they look for something to project their anger onto. this is often the worst player on the team, or the off-meta pick. because they weren't up to the frustrated player's "par", they're instantly the bad guy, and will likely be subject to abuse.
This often leads to verbal (in chat) abuse, leading to other players joining in, bullying and 'witch hunting' the 'bad' player. They lose cuz 'bad' player loses game. Probably because of tilt/Being mediocre (but we all know that isnt good enough in todays meta) They then proceed to flame the player in after-game chat, Reporting them for intentionally feeding, etc etc.
i.. have no idea how i wanna wrap this up. just wanted to bring to light this effect, and that just cuz the persons trying to learn, and/or playing an off meta pick, doesn't mean they deserve to be banished to the seven circles of hell.
