League of legends is a game! we're here to have fun. So, do what is fun for you.

Karthus jungle? sure. Jhin support? why not. (I could add more examples but cba tbh)

Just remember to atleast try to help your team win, and there's nothing anyone can do to get you in trouble for playing how you like.

keep that kind of shit in normals plz. those aren't off meta picks, those are ass backward picks

best Evaine EU1 votes

karthus jungle is actually good ya fuck, well at least a lot better than lux support.

The Choncho1 votes

I'd rather have a lux than a velkoz, malphite, brand, or xerath tbh. the shield is nice and she uses frost queen's well without losing utility in exchange for bullying

C9 Squeeky 10 votes

Remember: Playing Ranked queue should mean playing what would be the highest case for success (victory) for your team. Everyone's LP, not just yours, is on the line, especially when in promos.

Want to play off-meta in Normals? Sure. Ranked? Noooo...

Kaìju1 votes

QTPie and other high elo players have all said there is nothing wrong with playing off meta picks in ranked so long as you don't suck. Someone got challenger playing Rek'Sai support, so why can't others pick things like MF top? These niche picks trade good things for other good things. Sure an ADC top is vulnerable but if they get camped it opens up their jungle to take dragon easily and focus on snowballing bot lane, or if left alone they may just snowball themselves. Or a Xerath bot with something like Kindred jungle where you rotate the positions to abuse certain matchups.

no to toxic3 votes

Because they suck. A challenger can make anything work. A silver barely managed to make MF work as a adc so stop defending troll picks just so you can play Yasuo in every lane you want and lose everyone the game.

Kaìju1 votes

Except I don't play Yasuo much. Even so, if someone puts in the time to practice and hone their craft they should be allowed to use it so long as they aren't a burden to the team and they try to win.

ampheon1 votes

I mean, Yasuo can be played in every lane if you try hard enough but that's neither here nor there

best Evaine EU1 votes

i want to see some source on that challenger rek'sai support.

Kaìju1 votes

It was a while back and I will totally admit I was wrong, he got D2 which is still really good. Say what you will about "lol yardstick D5" but that's still better than the vast majority, especially as an off meta pick.

yeah i can trust in a mid-high dia reksai support a lot more than a challenger one.

Depends on what works. I for one play Twisted Fate as an ADC, and I know for a fact that as long as he doesn't fall behind, he can rip you a new one, especially late game. I mean his W scales on both AD and AP and his E provides a very powerful attack speed boost. If you build crit and attack speed items, you can stun an enemy and kill them before it wears off. However, everyone I play with is skeptical about it until i spawn, ult into Baron pit, and solo kill three of the five enemy players before I die, leaving only two of them with the buff, and leaving the rest of my team room to work with.

C9 Squeeky 3 votes

I will still say that you and the OP are the exception rather than the rule. Most players can't even play their role with meta picks, let alone off-meta xD

Etzel Garr8 votes

Lately, I've grown a bit bored of playing usual support, so I sometimes go Lulu + item 3124 item 3153 item 3091 item 3085 item 3006 item 3026 to break the routine, but I make sure to ask first (and it's usually in blinds).

It's a nice refresher and so far no one has seemed to mind it. [sg-lulu]

Q zzy4 votes

Machine gun Lulu is one of the scariest things you can ever see on the rift. I've lost against one as she legit shredded my team. I respect that [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

The other day, someone on the forums complained about getting banned for (among a list of other reasons) for picking Jinx when filled into support.

So...are you sure?

Bigrig10716 votes

I imagine the Jinx pick specifically wasn’t the reason for the banning.

The “list of other reasons” is probably closer to what actually resulted in a banning.

CPU Lyrica2 votes

I mean, as long as they are legitimatelly trying to help their team win, aren't flaming/trolling/etc, it's impropper accusations at most.

Kinda how people say "Dont F*Ck with our meta. play something good" this is essentially anti-fun for people like me who are booored with meta pics, and choose to play something interesting.

either way, no, it shouldn't be bannable, as long as the person is attempting to help the team. In the words of riot, "You can't ban people for being bad."

SanKakU1 votes

IKR, the way these people act, they act like we're doing something completely illegal like hacking a super smash brothers character into the game to play as or some nonsense like that.

I wouldn't mind using Villager in League

this, I enjoy ashe support and do extremely well with it, building support items with a black cleaver and linadry, hell it was the easiest thing ever to rank up during juggernaut patch getting me plat like nothing. was great

the thing that is NOT great is people harassing and trolling ME over MY pick even when we WIN lane and GAME. I swear to god I became so toxic for a month or two when I would end games 3/1/33 while having mids and tops trolling and going 1/12/2 saying crap like "if we had a real support I would try" and "report ashe for trolling"

NOT to mention half the games I legit had the most damage on the team (again remember juggernauts stacked a ton of hp, linadry procs on abilities and does damage based on enemies hp and double if they was slowed, with like a 2 second cd on w a long and wide slowing ability, imaging this in games where the enemy team almost always had 3 juggernauts. one support, one jungle, one top) and they could NEVER touch me or my adc on top of doingother support things like warding with my sight stone and clearing vision, stealing barons and more

CPU Lyrica2 votes

Huh.. ashe support. sounds fun. what kinda keystone do you reccomend for that? tempted to try it cx

Also, had a gangplank sup' match the other day, they kept yelling at me to play a real sup, until my ult got the jg a tripple kill.

ImTheSideKick1 votes

honestly depends on your play style,i like arcane comet as its so easy to land with her, get a lot of cdr as well

for build I normally go with this

item 3111 /item 3047 /item 3020 depending on how you are doing and enemy team comp (sorc boots is more against teams with a lot of tanks so your burns do even more, and you know you can survive) item 3092 cuz wards and extra easy poke damage in lane item 3071 for cdr and makes your adc do more damage, plus the hp helps a lot, trust item 3151 again hp helps plus this procs on w and r to burn enemies based on their HP and double due to innate slows/stun item 3190 basic support item item 3109 again basic support item

other good items depending on enemy team. item 3512 item 3107 and even item 3504 if you run front of life as every one will heal off all the people you slow

RocketRelm4 votes

No, playing off-meta isn't a reportable offense. Do remember though, that it automatically makes everything wrong in the game 120% your fault, especially the stuff that had nothing to do with you.

Jungler gets invaded? Fucking varus toplane, such trash. Get 2v2 killed bot at lvl 3 cause of support teemo? Useless mid Morgana.

Pandemic Punch4 votes

But if they pick "off-meta" because they are mad in champion select and then play mid lane when they queued for adc..... It is bannable

Shiznyte4 votes

Can I report the Support Yasuo who went 0/7/2 and complained all game he didn't get mid or top?

Abraxus follower3 votes

if he was inting sure! but feeding no :/ as op said it's okay to play how you play but he wanted to play yas:P Don't downvote me o_o

Dabundis1 votes

Inting or not, it sounds like he picked Yasuo support to "punish" his team for not letting him have his role. That kind of temper tantrum should be reportable.

I don't have all the facts though.

But before doing this keep in mind that this can happen to you https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/FrILlWp7-14-day-ban-because-playing-nunu-support-with-smite-is-stealing-other-peoples-roles

but there was no excuse for going support when you have smite though.

FullmuteAll play1 votes

Why there is no excuse, it still leads to win according to him. Plus why do you assign summoner spell to roles, but believe that champions shouldn't be assigned ? I am not against non-meta, but this is an example, that it can be dangerous in long run.

i mean there are certain champs assigned to roles like supporting and tank but sometimes dependin on there kit they can do more than there what they were assigned for. i mean you wouldnt see janna going jg or rakan jg because theyre literally made for support and as to the nunu with smite if he called support he didnt need smite

FullmuteAll play1 votes

So I will assume, that you agree with OP, correct me if I am wrong

"Karthus jungle? sure." but Janna jungle not ? For me taking Karthus as jg, makes as much sense as taking Janna jg (doesn't makes any sense) Jhin support? why not." He is literally made for adc, but going sup is ok, while rakan jg made for support doesn't make sense ? how is your logic different here ? Why do you think he didn't need smite ? Maybe it was part of his strategy ? Again following this logic adc don't need barrier or cleanse (instead of heal), but people still pick it.

So I am not really going into discussion, as I am not a fan of wasting time on arguing 24/7, and this is my last word in our conversation. But I just feel like you have double standards.

I don't really see how you feel that way, but I never said people couldn't go with different sum spells it doesn't make sense to me as a support would go with smite and as for me I'm going by what I usually do adc heal/flash support flash/exhaust

Riot already set a precedent with smite Singed: you have to explain yourself to the room and your team has to support what you are doing; anything else is reportable.

JustaNewb3 votes

What most of these younger players fail to ever realize is that the ADC used to go mid. The Tanks often jungled, and everyone else just rather split between the two lanes.

The "meta" is seen as this holy idea of viability, and they quote streams and statistics that are extremely flawed as long as it fits the narrative that they have any idea what they are doing. It isn't, and every year it changes, but... NOW it is absolute dammit!!

Daddy Ants3 votes

As long as you communicate your game plan with your team and you play to win then there shouldn't be a problem.

Psybicilin1 votes

You aren't obligated to talk in chat, no one ever got banned for not typing lol. A lot of times when I'm grinding, I just mute all and just use pings to communicate.

3TWarrior2 votes

I tend to be fairly accepting so long as the other person can at least explain it but some picks can be very off. For instance, what if someone plays a jungling nami? I would pretty much consider that...bad, but, what if instead someone used the jungler position to add Nami to a lane to benefit that lane and then becomes a roaming crowd control and healing gank character? That I would accept

BroLane2 votes

What Disco does should be, if you pick off meta when a teammate is stuck in a role they aren't comfortable with, you are twice as toxic as the majority of ragers. If I have to go ADC and my main champ is banned, I don't want a Teemo or Yasuo support.

Linna Excel2 votes

Just please try to play 10+ games of your off-meta pick in normals before trying it in ranked.

Acheron162 votes

I dont mind playing off meta provided that:

You warn the team beforehand You actually try to play for the win, not just playing different for the sake of it

Same goes for items, I dont mind if you pick subpar items lime Ohmwrecker a d Banner of Command if you know how to use them. I do mind people following cookie-cutter builds that result in shit like Assassins building Black Cleaver when the enemy team doesn't have a single armor item or even tank.

I play Veigar in carry position bot lane at it works so damn well. Sticking event horizon with a support's CC is guaranteed domination.

Ive noticed a large amount of people run it down mid because you pick something off meta. Then they justify their actions to themselves and others in the party as "Punishing" the off meta pick.

pretty sure its around 45% of the player base that does this either passively or actively. Its REALLY large as lucian support gets about 2 flamers per game, and typically 1 INTENTIONAL FEEDER AND AFK per 3 games.
