Is it worth it trying to learn new roles?
I've been trying to expand a bit, trying to learn new roles in game. And whenever I do, it ends in the worst way possible. Is it really worth trying to learn a new role, or should I just stick to my guns?

You should have some skill in most if not all roles
There's two reasons why you should have at least basic knowledge of playing each role:
In case you are last pick and don't get the role you want (not always support, I've been forced top before)
So you know the strengths, weaknesses, and the purpose of each role. It makes me cry inside when an adc yells at a support for not being able to deal damage or dying a lot (for peels), or a jungler who rages at carries for taking kills when the laner is behind.
Once you know how each role functions (it's more than laning), teamfights become easier. Top laners eventually stop being afraid to initiate teamfights because the carries are right behind them, and so on and so on. Some things are more obvious than others, like some junglers need red buff more than adc's for teamfights.
You should attempt to be at least competent in 3 roles. With that much flexibility, it will be very rare that you are forced into playing a role you're unfamiliar with.
I play support, but I'm also willing to do jungle or mid if that is unavailable. Worst-case scenario, I get forced to play ADC (and we're pretty much screwed if that happens; I suck at ADC). But that hasn't happened yet, because so far it's always been possible to arrange games so that everyone gets a role they're okay with.
I enjoy it; learning at least how the different roles think and behave in a team also help you with your game, since you know how your teammates and opponents will likely react to certain situations; a good way to learn this is to learn how to play the role.
