The new loot system introduced during Pre-season update is still REALLY bad and unenjoyable.

I've been playing the game for 3 years at this point, I have every champion, I've spent way too much on skins and stuff, whatever. I never really had a problem with the old IP system, sure people like me didn't have an IP sink, but it was nice to just have all that extra IP when a new Champ comes out. I also liked the lootcrate and skin shards crafting system, sure you get skins for champs you don't care about way too often, but at least you could re-roll 3 shards for a guaranteed skin or change them to essence to buy other skins you do want. It wasn't a perfect system, but it wasn't bad.

But I have a serious problem with the current system of BE that was implemented during Pre-season. It's the most detrimental change to the entire game in, IMO, years.

  • 1. Getting rid of the "re-roll three champ shards into a free random champion" was a HUGE detriment for people that have every champion. This just really only goes for people like me and other players that already have most champions, but not being able to roll for an upcoming champ because we own every champ and don't have the minimum of 10 locked champs is stingy at best. We've spent a lot of money or time on the game, and being able to use a mystery champ system to get any new champ for cheaper felt at least like it was rewarding me/us for being dedicated players, like a little "You've been such a good customer for us we're giving you a little bit off as a token of our appreciation!". Now? We have to pray that we get a Champ shard of the new Champ or grind it out. And yeah, this isn't as stinging for newer players or players with less than almost every champ, but it's still a huge blow to my enjoyment of the game.

  • 2. The costs of Champions in general is insane compared to old IP currency costs. Like, ridiculously high for what little we get. Zoe recently came out, so I figured I'd grind for a week or so to get her, especially with the PROJECT event going on. Little did I know, I got barely 1000 BE for every level, and I cant so I don't have anywhere near enough (currently at 4651 BE, but I need 1500 more minimum) to get her after 25 games. At minimum I played 12 Hours of League the entire week, and I still don't have enough for the new champion! What the fuck? Seriously? Why would I waste all this time playing to get the new champion? I always enjoyed playing the game before, and it was never this bad of a grind to have enough new champs before.

  • 3. We get WAY too little BE at WAY too slow of a rate. I can understand changing from getting IP after every game at a minimal rate to getting a big amount of BE after every level (actually, I can't, it's actively discouraging from playing if all you want to do is get enough BE to get a new champ or what have you), but even then you get literally none at all, it's completely random. You may get 3 6300 champ shards and have almost enough for a 3150 Champ! Or, much more likely, you'll get 20 Master Yi/Sion/Ashe/Kayle shards after 10 levels and not have enough to get, really, anything. It's a stupid system! It's RNG based and never feels good, especially if you're grinding for a new champ, you never get those "oh wow cool!" moments of getting a lot of high-value shards, it's just "god fucking damn it 1 4800 shard AGAIN?" or "Jesus christ come on 3 fucking 450 champ shards for the 4th time?". It makes the grind a lot longer than it should.

  • 4. Levelling takes WAAAAAY too long for the pittance of BE you'll ultimately get.

Seriously, it can take on average 4 wins counting FWOTD or maybe 5 wins if you're lucky to reach the next level, and when games can go anywhere from 30 minutes to a whole hour and a half, it feels like a slog to even get levels for BE. This levelling system of getting a minor amount of XP per game works in Overwatch because at max those games go for 20 minutes, they're more likely to go 10, but an hour-long match that goes down to the wire not even giving you a quarter of your EXP to reach the next level and get your next 300 BE feels awful and, again, discourages playing because I don't want to waste my whole day playing games just to finally level up.

  • 5. Reducing the returns from scrapping skin shards is just ludicrous. It's awful. It's almost pathetic in a way. I seriously don't know why they did this. I'm not getting any skin shards any faster than I was before, every single level-up over the past month has given me only champ shards (if I even got anything when levelling up, I've actually gotten nothing from hitting level 37 and I'm still pretty annoyed by that).

I recently got a skin shard of Elementalist Lux! Awesome! Unfortunately I had already bought the skin, so I figured I'd disenchant it for some BE.

Oh, I only get 650 Blue Essence from a 3250 skin! I would need 4 more of this specific shard to even unlock it! Guess i'm not disenchanting it then!

Seriously, 1/5th of the shard's value? For the rarest shard in the game? RIOT, did you guys miss when everybody was complaining about how Blizzard does this in HOTS or Overwatch? Because it's really fucking awful and feels like shit. At least in Overwatch, you also have a chance to just unlock the skin from a crate itself, but you HAVE to use essence to unlock ANY skin shard.

IN CONCLUSION: There is WAY too much wrong with how the new loot system works. Multiple times Riot employees stressed that this would be a better loot system and at least once they said players who have played more and longer would feel more rewarded. Well, no, I don't feel rewarded for getting the highest value skin shard and only being able to scrap it for a 750 skin, and not being able to buy the new champion after 12 more hours of gameplay, even though I've played through 3 years and never had a problem with the IP system.

No matter how many times people say it, I absolutely refuse to believe that in the long run we are earning more BE than we would IP. The math just doesn't add up. And it's absurd to expect us to pay the full prices for champions with a currency that has been nerfed to all hell. The same goes for champion mastery- would you really spend 3,900 IP JUST to have a pretty flair on the loading screen and a special emote? I don't think so.

The orange essence SNAFU is arguably the worst. I paid for the chests that got me all the skin shards I currently have, and now they're next to worthless. I'm not expecting free skins, I'm expecting to be able to unlock the skin shards that came from chests I BOUGHT. Riot also made that particular change in a very sneaky, conniving way that honestly makes me sick to my stomach. What they're doing is disgusting.

Agreed, 100% !!! In the old system you know exactly and very precisely how much you had to grind to get that particular champ you wantYasuo Zed Zoe Riven Kayn Kassadin Aatrox Azir . The new system is very inconsistent, the capsules have a bad drop rate too, at least it can drop shards of champions that i dont already own. My situation right now : "Oh i finally got a 1200 shard Lissandra , but wait i need this champ too, so imma keep this shard, grind another 2 levels to make up for not getting anything in the previous level". FeelsBadMan, guess they really want us to spend RP to unlock champs faster. [sg-ahri-1]

I cant but agree with you here. I've been playing since the end of season 4. I'm now level 45 and I dont have enough BE to get Zoe yet. Disheartening in the least. Not to mention the lack of Orange essence. Which ive only gotten from loot boxes once since the change to the in game currency. From Riots perspective I can only guess they want to make the game more appealing to new players, but with their "Gamestop" like trade in policy on shards its difficult to be encouraged to grind for new skins or champions.

100% Man and people keep say "ITS A FREE TO PLAY GAME" Jesus pisses me off. TBH i see Star Wars BF 2 getting hate for the massive grind this game YES ITS F2P but at this rate and EXP it takes to LVL with the RNG for BE it will take 2-3 Years to Open all the champs and that if you play at a normal rate. I know BF is 60$ but still this shit is stupid? How and what way are they claiming to lose Revenue? They said we would get BE faster with events and so on but so far i have not seen this. I opened a champ orb from this even... I got a garen shard and 200BE from it? Skin shards are even mroe laughable i got a legendary God LEE SIN and that will only get me 384 OE... This change TBH will push me awayfrom this game i can already start losing my feel. I am lvl 40 it takes 3072 XP to rank up thats around 12-15 games depending if u win or lose. Games now are so fast all daytoday i had games last 15-25mins before people are allready ffing. I miss the good ole days where a macth took 35-45mins that was fun... that got u some nice IP to... I really dont enjoy this grinding crap. I lvled to 40 hoping to get enough for jinx. It gave me 2010 for the epic lvl cap. but i was 300BE off so now i hve to play al lthese day games to LVL up again just to do this crap...

I'm not minding the grind so much. Granted, I have most of the champions, and I'm a fairly patient guy. I've done worse time sinks.

Where I do have issues, though, is the cost on Champion Mastery. It didn't need to go up. That's just a kick in the teeth, since it'll easily take two to three levels of gain just to get a level 6 mastery on average -- the chance of getting THAT PARTICULAR CHAMPION as a shard in a box is simply too low to make that option viable. Add another level for mastery 7. You're so happy that you got the tokens you needed until you realize it'll be a week or so before you get to actually craft your mastery. Bleh.

It seems to me the new system is only great for new players, where as people like you and I who have a ton if not all the champions already just got majorly screwed. Not getting anything but EXP per game would be fine if leveling actually gave a decent amount of BE but at this rate ill either have to get incredibly lucky and roll a Zoe shard or ill never unlock her. Cant use mystery skins because I have too few locked champions (literally one) and simultaneously cant unlock through essence because every level gets me 975 or less no matter what. 7800 BE for the new champion? Way to pressure the veterans into buying more RP after all the time and money we've already put into the game. Since season one Ive literally invested a few thousand dollars (my mistake) just to get completely dongered in the ashe on this new system. FML

Before the update, I never used paid much attention to my IP as it was coming in at a reliable rate.

I've noticed that with the new leveling and currency system my drive to play the game is centered around leveling up in order to gain BE in order to get a champion. That wasn't the case before, before I'd mostly just enjoy and concentrate on the game itself. This update has corrupted the game, in my opinion, it's an inferior design.

Somebody should create a well-written petition to get the old system back.

We can pressure them into doing so by making and agreeing on demands and use certain strategies, for example, we could organize and agree on a date (or a set of dates) where we will simply not run the client.

We could call this: the RIOT against RIOT.

I literally have NOTHING to look forward to except a few milestone capsules. Other than that, my BE is pointless. I own all of the champs and the BE shop is disappearing.

Entice me to spend my BE Riot because right now, after getting horribly shafted with the BE rune conversion and the BE store disappearing... I have nothing to spend it on. I have enough BE to buy the next 9 champs but not enough BE to get another item in the store.

Do you really want me to sit here and never spend IRL money on your game?

im have a new account to test the BE vs IP lvling up debate ive been playing for 4 years now and so on and its garbage, i have to play around 6-7 games to lvl up from lvl 10 all the champ shards that u get from lvl ups are crap champs and useless, they are cheaper and cost less then ip from the shop but the fact is with out getting IP after each game like we used to it doesn't make its any better or easier then before because all the people saying it helps new people dont even realise that new people dont have the 50k BE sitting there when they get the champ shards to unlock them anyway..........so higher lvl 40 or lower lvl new accounts it doesn't make a difference because you dont earn enough BE to buy the champs from shards either way and u end up with random useless champs u dont even want to play with this is just riot trying to make more money off there dying game because there scum fucks who need kill them selvessummoner 11 summoner 14 .

I do think you have blown some issues up in the wrong ways and some of the problems you are saying all sound like bugs or false (you got nothing from level 37? Really? That just isn't suppose to happen) but I do agree with the general idea.

This new system is the polar opposite of rewarding and honestly is trying to get you as a player to play less but come back more to max your rewards. It feels more like a mobile game that puts in really quick and easy missions to get you to keep coming back and try them out but punishes you for playing longer periods (in this case XP being smaller while in mobiles it's some stamina system). It's honestly just a complete bitch and I HATE loot boxes so making your entire reward system based on them? Go fuck yourself Riot. Loot boxes we a okay side thing that didn't really matter much for me at all. Now they are the whole freaking system and they are just as disgusting as they could be. I don't want my rewards to be big surprises. If I spend time and put forth effort to get a champion or some content, I should be allowed to grind that out and get it, even if it is a slow grind of 100 points at a time. Now? All up to the die roll to see if I actually get anything. It sucks and I would rather get 5 IP per game than this system.

Another big issue I have is the OJ. This change was the worst change yet because I haven't gotten nearly as many keys as of late nor have I got nearly any more skins than I already would have. This is just a straight nerf to something that you have to primarily buy (and to note in other games would shower you with these boxes and the content comes free.) and buy multiples of to get a pay off. Like seriously, this was already one of the worst loot box systems in gaming but you managed to make it worse? I'm just impressed how you managed to do that guys.

Seriously.

You need a key, a box, than OJ or BE to enchant the object to own it. You need 3 aspects to get 1 fucking item. Another game? Just get the box and you got the content inside. Riot, fix your OJ rates because this is legit making fucking EA's loot boxes look better and this is fucking EA guys.

Completely agree, I'm actually surprised that Riot is trying to ignore everyone who keeps trying to voice their concerns over this, and there are A LOT of people.

They introduced the horrible staircase leveling, essentially giving you LESS blue essence per level as you continue to level up your account.

But they're giving us these trashy emotes every 10 levels, and a couple of random ward skins OR icons...

If you stick around to level 150, you'll get ONE GEMSTONE! yay. Seriously, why are they so hesitant to make their game "rewarding"...making players happy keeps players playing, and thus, you'll get more revenue. This is just garbage.

I was supportive of Riot with the new system, and ultimately believe it to be a better system, but it needs work. Riot is being too stingy with the BE. Come on, stop being a miser.

What really surprised me was the devaluing of Orange Essence. Now you have to disenchant way too many skins in order to unlock one. That is ridiculous.

I am LESS willing to buy RP now. Your plan, Riot, has back fired. I spent hundreds over the last year in RP purchases, but I no longer feel I'm getting a fair value for my investment. The game is still fun, I enjoy the new rune system, but you have destroyed the currency.

What are you smoking? The old algorithm was 18 IP + 2.312 IP per minute for wins. If you spend 12 hours on those games, that means the average game was 0,48 hours or 28,8 minutes. We'll circle it to 29. So let's say you won all 25. That would've given you 67 ip per game or 1675 ip in total. If you played all these games in one week, I'll assume you got all 7 first win of the day bonuses (150 ip). That means that these games in the old system would've given you the maximum of 2725 ip IN AN IDEAL SITUATION. I don't know what game you have been playing "for 3 years at this point" to earn ip so fast.

I feel like one of those rare people who is fine with the new system, this might be because im getting decent loot and dont know who i wanna buy since i got who i wanted instantly, i managed to get vayne rakan shards the second it came around to complete them, and have rolled 6 6300 champ shards in 10 levels.
