Going Up the Ranks : Is it Luck or Skill ?

PhantomDark03·5/21/2015, 5:26:30 PM·2 votes·884 views

Yes !!!!

I know , it takes a lot of skill . Just don't hate .

But for those who are more reasonable and feel that to win you need 5 .

How much of it is luck ? , i mean , with teammates .

Let me try to Explain .

I understand that xPeke , Faker , Pawn , ... or even DoubleLift didn't climb the ranks with just luck (good teammates), they got mad skills . They will go AD Soraka and make you cry for mommy .

But for the average you and me .

If got stuck as last pick , can you hyper-carry your team as a support ?

or , your adc aggressive style makes him take more damage than he should aka "feeding" .

or , your team is low health and goes for baron , when you know they shouldn't aka "its warded bhru and all 5 enemies are full health and waiting on tri brush"

or , jungler never ganks so am going to go afk aka "cya laters"

So ,

The Question is ,

When you win ,

Do you feel "Lucky" for having good teammates ?

or ,

Do you feel you are "Mad-Skill" hyper-carry mofo ?

10% luck, 20% skill 15% concentrated power of will 5% pleasure, 50% pain And 100% reason to remember the name

sure, sometimes you get really shit team mates, but climbing generally takes skill. if you take charge, make calls, give targets for certain players to prioritise and generally just play well you will carry. if you quietly farm, try and follow the person who is closest in front and don't take charge, you'll probably just drag the game out till 50th minute, get aced and lose the game.

Luck or skill? Answer is yes.

You need to consistently play well AND get lucky enough to have a team that doesn't suck or dc (or lucky enough so that the other team has the boosted account or the comcast 4v5 or the rage monkey). I've had strings of games where I have played out of my mind and I still can't carry because it's a 3v5 or one of my teammates let his cat try league in my promo game.

Skill and luck.

Considering it's a team game of 5 people: 80% luck, 20% skill.

In any ranked game, your team mates are random, the enemy team is random and what champions are picked are random. One could argue that is all luck. Now, i usually tell people who argue about this that if you do nothing in a game but go even, you never roam, never gank, never gets a kill and never dies, then sure it is pure luck if you win or lose, because your fate is in your team mates hands. However, you can make your own destiny by winning your lane, swapping lanes with someone in need, picking a champion that greatly benefits the team, roaming, warding, pinging, calling barons/dragons, counter ganking, counter jungling, buying utility items etc etc. With all those options open, it is only a matter of how many of those you can execute in a game, or how well you can prevent your team from losing and instead winning.

For example, playing as a jungler and buying a ward on your first recall, placing it around mid might just prevent that first blood from ever happening and thus preventing the enemy midlaner from carrying the game. Or swapping lanes with the midlaner as a top laner to prevent their midlaner from stomping your midlaner further might just be what your team needs.

It is up to you if you want to play with luck or with skill, you can do both.

I think it is luck. I played Soraka last season (and this one), last season I managed to get to Gold5, then stopped playing as I didn't want to lose the victorious skin. This season I can barely hang onto Silver 1 and 2, using the same strategy. (A lot of caution pings and warding places of interest)

last season before/during my Gold promos I went 7-0. I feel very lucky to get two wins in a row now. lol

In bronze and silver it takes luck, that's where you don't win the game, the enemy loses the game. In gold and up, it takes skill.

till Platinum its kinda 15% skill 85% luck and 100% depends of how much time u wanna put in...

I'd say it's probably 30% luck. That can give you some big swings, but in the end the most important factor is your skill.

Skill.

To win ONE game, yes you have the material of Luck. But in order to climb, you'll probably need quite a few games, be it win or loss.

You need more skill than luck in situations like that.

Just for a quick example, I haven't ranked on my smurf since the end of season 3, and it has decayed to bronze 4 now after I tried out a few new champions and did really bad. I climbed out of silver in less than 2 weeks.

I'm a diamond five player. So skill wise, I'm above them, but I'm definitely no pro. I'm among the worst players in Diamond. Luck? Everyone has the same luck. No one is luckier than others.

Skill vs Luck? I climbed out of bronze in 2 weeks with similar luck to everyone else.

Skill is the factor.

its luck really can u win when the adc is purpose feeding no

I feel lucky as fuck when i win. I don't carry. I have games where i can do amazing, but i have some kind of psychological block where i can't carry. A large issue is that i'm too damn trusting of others and critical of myself. Overall i'd say climbing the ladders is 70% luck 20% skill and 10% the ability to trust yourself to no end(i think it important to separate this from skill) The professional players, or atleast most of them, weren't always the best players in the world. They all had innate skill, but they were also lucky enough to make it to a point where they are playing with other players who have that 20% skill and 10% confidence.

Under normal circumstances you will rarely be the 'mad-pro' that hyper carries.

If you're consistently 'hyper-carrying' then that means your MMR is shyt because you're losing a lot of free games via your own bad attitude/tilting/trolling. The Matchmaking system is very fair, if you consistently play to the best of your abilities then your teammates will usually not suck.
