Rank Games. How do you match players during rank games ?

No need to explain that League of Legends is a team effort game. That is clear . Everyone has a role , a position and a goal , and to win you must work together . Great concept ! .

Now here is the question .

When you click to play a rank game , and you are waiting for the system to find you 4 teammates , and soon after you are in champion select . How does the Riot system make the calculation (decision) to pick your teammates ? . I understand clearly that we must all be in the same elo (bronze3 , gold2 , silver5 , etc ) or at least near by .

But in more detail .

Can you explain how this process works ? how does the system calculate the "player match" for teams during rank games ? How does the system select your teammates ? Is the KDA a factor in this process ? Is the "winning streak" a factor in this process ?

I am assuming that Riot wants to be fair and balance in this process . What factors are considered when balancing players during rank games ? What factors are considered when balancing teams during rank games ?

The reason I ask this question is because i feel that rank games are unbalanced . Either one or the other team gets toxic players , afks or just "a**holes"

One suggestion i will like to make is that a player has the choice to rate a players after a rank game from 0 to 10 .

According to your average rating you will be more likely to play again with other players that share your rate score at each elo .

Your rating score at each elo should also affect your MMR instead of just your winning rate . Because your winning rate is not a real indicator of your individual performance or your worthiness of a higer or lower elo.

Consequently , this will balance rank games at each individual elo by,

  1. players with good ratings will be matched together making games more enjoyable . Enjoyable because players with positive attitudes and good skills (of each elo level) will be matched together in both teams .

  2. players with low ratings will be match together making there games more appropriate for there play style and give them time to adjust if they intent to climb ranks in the future .

  3. players that join rank games careless of the team-base nature will get low ratings and play with other players that are as careless as they are .

  4. players will try to be nicer to there teammates so they can be rated positive . So better team communication will be the consequence . Players with positive attitudes will not have to bear with the frustrating chats of negative toxic players .

  5. players will try to do whats best for there team . They will put an effort in there roles so they can get rated positive regardless of win or lost .

  6. Good and better players will have a true chance to get promoted to higher elos . While toxic players will get matches with other toxic players and remained at there current elo unless they change there attitudes .

  7. players will not go afk but commit to a full game . If they go afk , they will get low ratings placing them with other careless players .

  8. toxic players will be rare to encounter if you are a positive player .

  9. when trying new champions , players at least will play a few games at non-ranks games to learn the basic mechanics .

  10. players will not just focus on there KDA's , but also focus on how to best help there teams . Creating a better environment .

  11. And to avoid "rating retaliation" , if a player gets 2 or 3 reports his/her rating to other players will not be considered .

  12. Overall , it will positively impact the player's matching process during rank games by making games more enjoyable . And from the business perspective , that is good for Riot .

I think that considering and evaluating a "Player's average rating score" when matching player for rank games at each elo level is much more fair than just simply matching "good" players with "bad" players to balance both teams.

This will encourage a better and fair environment at the rank games level.

ranked tiers and divisions have nothing to do with who you're matched up with. Its all about your hidden mmr (match making rating) if you win you gain mmr ....if you lose, you lose mmr now it can happen that your mmr is at gold tier but you lost your series to gold and are still in silver while ur still playing with gold players.

so generally....just dont think of a silver 3 as a better player than a silver 5 if your in the same game lol....becuase it could be that silver 3 dude gets +10LP per win while silver 5 gets +30LP....simply because his mmr is much higher than his current division

also do know afks....feeders...trolls....are seperate things, you cant put them togather and blame community/matchmaking for it.

afks make it 4v5, most u can do is surrender at 20 or if you guys are doing well u can hold on til he comes back.

feeding happens, its common......u have to try ur best to keep everything cool, i feed too many times in lane since i play yi toplane. u can get out played, make bad calls etc. Just need help them get back up, dont just blame them but try to help them out and eventually itll be a 5v5 again. And so u'll need to adapt to whos fed(build accordingly, group early etc)

trolls.....theses guys are more rare of the 2, most u can do is surrender and report. In one of my ranked game our jungler rengar ganked botlane level 1 and died, our duo bot got sooo upset, that janna support followed rengar everywhere to his camps to steal xp and gold ....now thats a troll. he completely gave up and lost us the game

sometimes 1 person is doing really bad, and team is just blaming him over and over for missing skilshots, getting caught etc. don't be surprised if he leaves or decides to troll. Positive attitude DOES win game. Many times, you might think enemy team wayy to ahead, no way to win this....but they might be fighting over something u dont know about....and that simply takes away teamwork. I lost a game as sivir because my support thresh kept arguing with me about how heal is better than barrier (I took barrier). before minions even spawned he thought I got elo boosted or bought my account for being in my current division, he literately ditched me on purpose so i die....but w/e our team reported him....enemies had no idea lol.

besides alll that, I don't believe rating a person based on his performance is a good idea, alot of contributions by supports and tanks go unnoticed. Its a team game, you can't exactly judge a persons contribution and performance unless u realllly starred at him the entire game. Because quite frankly, you'll most likely remember a persons mistakes than when hes actually doing what hes suppose to be doing. On top of that, if somone picks a non meta pick and does bad, automatically he'll be considered 1 star lol.

Im not too bothered by the current system because i know the dudes ahead of me in the ladder had to go through the same system...If i want to climb i have to improve my own skill, attitude and learn to better adapt if any lane is feeding.

---> like you said "so generally....just dont think of a silver 3 as a better player than a silver 5 ... " , and I agree .

I know players that are very good generally at support , adc , mid , top or jungle (at whatever role) but they are stuck in lower elos because they get more "bad teams" and there MMR are low because they lose games even if they do all they can to help there team .

---> "alot of contributions by supports and tanks go unnoticed" , that is true generally because some people are ungrateful :D .

When I play adc or mid (carry role) and it happens that I get a good support that sets me good opportunities to kill someone or a tank that protects me from getting CCed or focused , I always honor them and add them to my friends list :D . These players understand the game and deserve the opportunity to be in a higher elo .

---> Picking a non-meta champion at a role is ok . If you been playing for awhile you wont be bothered by a non-meta pick or by there selection of summoners or even there build . The player is 95% and the champion selection is 5% at any role , in my opinion . So if you fallow meta or not shouldn't be the issue .

Me personally , you can pick any champion at any role with any build and I wouldn't be worried because is the person making the plays who matters and not so much the champion selection .

You could copy 'Fakers leblanc' build with mastery/runes/itmes/summoners and ruin the game for your teammates or go AD Janna and have a great game with your teammates :D .

---> Getting caught , missing your skill shot or make a bad play should not be the definitive factor for evaluating someone as a bad player . We all make mistakes , I understand . But if you have someone repeatedly doing the same things , then the teammates adjust and chat him to try something different or play more safely ( this happens usually ) . But now , if someone insists on there same ways with no success , well that is a problem . This person is not playing team , he is playing himself .

Also note , there is a difference when you are getting ganked or focused all the time by the enemy team . And you are getting no help from your teammates :D .

----> I still believe the the MMR system can be improved for a REAL ranking system .

The current ranking system places INDIVIDUAL players in elos , according to there RANDOM TEAMS wins/losses . That is Odd to me .

And to add , I have played other team games and none of them require the level of cooperation to win a game as league of legends . I have never seen league of legends game be won 4v5 , and if you have , the chances are 1 to 1000 if not much much higher under very favorable circumstances.

So , What is these Individual player ranking system really "ranking" with the MMR score ?

Is NOT the level of skill of a player , or there level of game tactical understanding , or team collaboration .

MMR system is making the ranked games unbalanced were you have to light some candles and pray to your favorite saint so you don't get an afk , a feeder , a troll or just someone who had a bad day and is not willing to collaborate .

At the end of the day , MMR reflects how lucky you are at getting teammates , or how much can you hyper carry with Katarina early to mid game :D

================================================================

When I suggested to add a "rating of players" at the end of each mach , were each player has the opportunity to rate there teammates after a rank game from 0 to 10 . I don't think this is the ultimate solution but I think it would help match positive players with positive players and toxic players with toxic players .

Were positive players would have a better chance of finding good teammates and better games with a fair opportunity to win and be ranked at your **true ** elo level .
