I like the ideas behind Sona's rework but her Q needs SERIOUS rethinking

Sona's old Q:

-buffed both AD and AP, meaning that it was a passive bonus for anyone who happened to be in range - not just autoattackers.

-stayed active indefinitely, so you didn't need to cast it in anticipation of your lanemate going in to attack.

-was much less likely to accidentally kill minions, because (with the aforementioned indefinite duration) you could cast it before hitting lane, or just when you'd hit champions with it.

Sona's new Q:

-ONLY buffs autoattackers. Don't even bother snuggling Karthus or Anivia.

-Lasts 3 seconds, and when an enemy champion is tagged their buff only lasts for 3 seconds beyond tagging. For one hit.

-Requires you to be right next to your allies to apply the buff, meaning that in lane, if you want to buff your ADC for a poke at an enemy champion, you're probably going to be next to minions. Which means you're probably going to steal CS.

**Beyond that, a next-attack buff is awful for nearly every champion in the game. **

-The Marksman/ADC identity is based on the idea of massive, sustained single-target damage. Their strength comes from consistently high autoattack damage; adding a bit of magic damage to a single attack is just a drop in the bucket. Notice how, while next-autoattack modifiers are relatively common in League, the only Marksmen who have this characteristic are Sivir, Vayne, and Lucian - Sivir's ability actually buffs her next three attacks, Vayne's ability is tied to a low-cooldown dash with tactical value beyond the autoattack, and Lucian gets his autoattack modifiers off literally every ability on his kit. An autoattack buff only matters to ADCs AT ALL if it can be applied consistently and on-demand, rather than "every 8 seconds if it's safe." (I didn't count Draven because it's less of a "next hit" thing and more of a "catch your axes for a ridiculous DPS boost" thing.)

-AP characters don't autoattack, as a rule. There are few exceptions, and even those exceptions probably won't bother taking on the extra risk to do an extra 40-110(+AP) damage on one attack.

-Assassins love anything that will add to their burst, but sticking them in the bubble makes them predictable, which is literally fatal to the assassin pattern.

-Fighters work kinda like ADCs in that their damage comes from their ability to autoattack consistently over a duration, meaning that just one buffed attack is barely meaningful at all.

-Tanks gonna tank. Damage doesn't come into it.

I actually like the way Sona's new W and E are executed, those are perfectly fine for what they do (though I'd appreciate if her shield felt a little more substantial), but her Q almost feels like a trap. Cast it in lane, you'll steal CS. Pop it on your ADC to give them a damage spike, they won't know it's there until it's too late. Activate it in a teamfight, you'll add a few hundred damage to your team's output at best, and make yourself a sweet target for AoE at worst.

DISCLAIMER: Sona's rework has been out for literally a day at this point, and I'm not a high enough rank to claim to be an authority. But I played the hell out of Old Sona, I'm a Support Main, and I've spent the last week or so studying bot lane interactions for a pet project of mine. There's a lot of dissatisfaction surrounding Sona's update beyond "it changed now it sucks," and I'm just trying to isolate one of the problem areas.

Buffing a single auto attack by a large amount instead of every auto attack by a small amount is actually much more beneficial to mages and assassins. They want to unload a spell rotation (which usually consists of an auto attack as well) then retreat. Melee assassins will greatly appreciate the added burst. They don't really care about sustained damage since they want their target to die as soon as possible.

I completely agree.

I heartily disagree with you on the value of auto attacking of ap casters. Anivia is all about mixing in auto attacks with her combo as filler. I'm an Anivia main and I kill people with those auto attacks. Combined with the AP ratio of the spellblade mastery, sona contributes additional damage to already exceptional damage that Anivia offers. All the while, following it up with other helpful buffs.

I can tell you right now, plenty of AP carries will finish you with an autobqttack frequently.
