Why can GangPlank cleanse out of Yasuo's ult, but Cleanse cannot?

Zexvain··64 votes·5,580 views

Same thing with Yasuo's tornado Q, or i'm pretty sure any knockup in general. Also, his w can cleanse suppression's such as Malzahar Warwick Urgot , but cleanse doesn't offer that, but QSS does?

GP W is, for all intents and purposes, a QSS with a heal attached to it. It will remove anything a QSS will, including the summoner spell block on knockups. Get hit by a Yasuo tornado? W immediately and not only can you then flash, he can't ult you either since you're not considered airborne anymore by the games code.

As for cleanse and mikaels, I'm fairly certain that they work similarly, with the exception that they can't remove suppression. They can still remove the airborne effect from knockups and they can still remove Yasuo's ult outright since it's a suspension like Nami Q and thus can be cleansed as well as reduced by tenacity. That Alistar video above is a bad example because he cleanses too quickly, but it does indeed work. That means you supports out there should be buying mikaels against Yasuo.

You may want to read the effect of Mikael's

Active UNIQUE: Instantly removes all stuns, roots, taunts, fears, silences and slows on an allied champion, as well as granting 2 seconds of slow immunity. Successfully cleansing an effect will also grant the target 40% movement speed for 2 seconds (120 second cooldown) (750 range)

Nowhere does it cleanse debuffs nor knockups, so it wouldn't do anything against Yasuo.

You may want to actually try things in game rather than blindly trusting tooltips.

Yes, it does.

doesn't work with knockups his ult is coded as a suspension which is considered a disable not a displacement, no idea why just roll with it

You can Gangplank cleans Yasuo Q though... that's a knockup.

You can also QSS a knockup if timed correctly

Can you really?

Ferrous Oxide1 votes

Yes, Boxbox has displayed it multiple times, but here is an example of a perfectly timed QSS against a vayne condemn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDuVbhXL0YY

Now for QSS you dont regain control of your champion unless you use a movement ability, HOWEVER anyone that has used QSS on a knockup CANNOT be ulted by yasuo even if they appear to be knocked up as if they where not knocked up anymore.

So you can QSS yasuo ult, interesting. Does this work with cleanse?

Hella Kaiser1 votes

it should... "A unit that is suspended is considered to be airborne for the purposes of Last Breath.png Last Breath, but for countering purposes it's considered a stun." - leagueoflegends.wikia.com it also says that it can be removed by cleanse.

wait you can? I've never been able to do that before but i know it works against the ult,

Watch a Tobias Fate game where he play Gangplank Vs. Yasuo, you'll see.

Exactly, so why is he able to cleans with his w, but QSS and Cleans don't do the same thing?

Hella Kaiser2 votes

QSS and Cleans should be able to do it. probably a glitch.

WoonStruck2 votes

You can cleanse a knock-up then use a mobility spell out of it.

Displacements are 2-part CCs. Cleanse only removes one part of it.

Cleanse removes debuffs over suppressions I believe.

"removes all disables (excluding suppression) and summoner spell debbufs affecting your champion". Is a knockup not classified as a dissable? Or am I missing something?

Ralanr3 votes

Oh that. Yeah knock ups aren't supposed to be countered after you already get hit by them. You're supposed to avoid them.

Where does it state that in the description? It's unclear. If that were the case, it should state "(excluding knockups and surppresion)"

Ralanr4 votes

No, knock ups generally aren't counterable like that.

Think of knock ups as %health true damage. You don't counterbuild it.

Ok, then why is Gankplank able to cleanse it whilst cleans cannot?

Stronger than a summoner spell.

...QSS removes supressions but cleanse does not.

crippler381 votes

That's probably because then you'd have a summoner spell that hard counters say, malz, so hard that if you ever see him ever you'll take cleanse.

Stronger than a summoner spell.

that's not unusual

dashes and blinks that are longer range and lower cooldown than flash damage abilities that deal more damage than ignite shields bigger than barrier heals bigger than heal all these things exist on multiple champion kits

summoner spells are strong because they add onto a kit that already has a bunch of good stuff.

Because this game is broken

Side note: stacking health helps against true damage. 100 extra health at 10% health true damage means you're still up 90 health from not having it. It's certainly not enough, but an item with a decent amount of health can let you last for a few more attacks, which can mean the difference between getting the kill or getting killed. It's not super effective, but it's better than just trying to build glass canon-ier.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

%health true damage

Read again. Health counters true damage. %health true damage has no counter - it kills everyone at equal speed in all circumstances (assuming no healing).

Health still counters champions that have %health true damage, because it is often less than their normal damage type. Unless you build pure tank and or have a lot of % damage reduction.

Serika Zero1 votes

wrong, %health true damage has a counter in HP (health pool)

Here's an ilustration: you have 100hp, you take 10% true damage once now you got 90hp you got 90hp and you take 10% true damage again now you got 81hp you got 81hp and you take 10% true damage again now you got 72.9hp you got 72.9hp and you take 10% true damage again now you got 65.61 hp . . . . . and you go on like this

%max hp true damage. That's the shit without counters. Coz then, you got 100 max hp. you take 10% max hp true damage once now you got 90hp you got 90hp and a max of 100hp. you take 10% max hp true damage again now you got 80hp. you got 80hp and a max of 100hp. you take 10% max hp true damage again now you got 70hp. . . . . and so on.

in the second case, you die in 10 hits. In the first place, you don't die in an infinite amount of hits. Because even if you have 1 hp, you take 0.1 damage and are let with 0.9hp. So, it comes down to base values of the attacker and the "tank's" max hp pool. Meanwhile %max hp true damage, would require just 10 hits.

The damage type originally spoken of previously only existed in one instance, being Camille's second Q with Ruined king passive (Though i guess mumu's passive counts now too), thus when people speak of percentile true damage 99/100 times they are referring to Vaynes or Fioras true damage.

oh, ok

You can Qss knock-ups. However, it only works if you have mobility.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Flash works as well for it.

The Sword Saint1 votes

Because a knockup is not cc, it's a 'movement block' like knockbacks and pulls and whatnot. To the game, the moveblock part is the same as if you had used your own gapcloser. The reason you are cc'd when hit with these sort of displacements is because the spells that hit you ALSO applies a stun to you for the duration of the movement.

What you can do is cleanse/qss the stun while in motion and then immediately use flash or your own movement spell and those will overwrite the current movement block you are in - think leesin dashing with either q or e and then changing direction midair, it's the same concept.

Boxbox demonstrates this on stream from time to time. He'll buy qss against a vayne or alistair or jayce or something similar, then run up to the and qss the instant the knockback hits and then dash forward and effectively not get knocked back at all. He then proceeds to murder people because they didn't really understand how displacement works so they get caught off guard.

You can't remove knockup, Yas ult isn't a knock-up, though, it's suspension, like a nami bubble. If the interaction is the same with nami bubble, something is wrong.

Sahn Uzal4 votes

Yasuo ult is a suspension, not a knock up

ProfDrDeath3 votes

Cleanse removes all types of CC except for Suppression. But Suppression prevents you from using Summoner Spells, anyway.

That's the reason you cannot cleanse out of Suppression.
