Rift herald idea

so reading on the news i caught this

"Additionally, Rift Herald just isn’t generating enough sufficiently interesting or appreciated play to justify its presence. We do like the value a one-time spawn puts on it; the reward at least isn’t making it a priority in the majority of games. Sometime this year (mid-season or pre-season, not sure which yet) we’ll be looking to either fix it, replace it or remove it as a result."

so here is my idea to change the buff making it a powerful tool that will be competed over without being game breaking

add to it this effect and keep the rest as is

Vision from the Rift when the champion walks by an enemy ward it will give the champion true sight for 10 seconds, consuming the Vision of the rift buff, this buff is refreshed when the champion returns to the fountain as long as he has the other rift herald buff still active

this gives the rift herald buff its current power and the power of strong vision control by being able to remove wards with it as well

this would make it a more sought after buff and may even result in true competition over the buff

this is also a non combat power buff to keep it from being to strong for a snowballing team

That would be similar to Duskblade's Black out passive. Which I think would likely be broke if it went for the same duration as the buff it already has.

I feel like one of the problems with the rift herald buff is that it pretty much requires two people to take it down in any reasonable amount of time, while only providing the buff to one individual. This is a big agency problem in YoloQ, where a Jungler might not be content with taking that objective if it's just going to the top laner, or vise versa. Though it's obviously not the only problem, as even pro teams tend to ignore the buff.

One issue with the rift Herald in general, was that while they wanted to stop making Top lane an Island, it also encouraged the lane swap. Before, the lane swap was deterred by dragon control. So Riot fixed that by making the Rift Herald spawn later. (in addition to changing how the buffs work.) The other potential problem I see is the one shot, long term buff itself, is tricky to balance. Because the buff survives after death, you really can't counter the buff itself, so if the buff is too strong, it gives the top laner too much agency. And it seemed that the main way of counterbalancing that was to make Rift Herald harder to take.

Final note, The rift Herald buff should probably avoid favoring a particular meta. (Again, likely mitigated by how hard Rift herald is to take.) Though the vision thing you mentioned would likely shift the the Herald buff from Top lane to Jungler, as it would significantly increase their ability to detect vision and sneak up on the enemy. (Not likely what Riot would be going for.)

Sounds pretty cool. But HOLY BUSTED in competitive.

not really it requires returning to fountain to refresh the vision buff, its basically the item 3147 passive but it doesn't disable the ward and it only refreshes by returning to fountain, it also wont trigger on traps, and can be wasted on control wards or far sight wards its duration could be brought down to 8 or even 5 seconds.

its a base idea and subject to tuning
