Azir build theory craft

I'm an Azir main, however I've been wondering if my build is an optimal way to build Azir, so I wanted to start theory crafting.

Currently my Azir build is 21/0/9 Masteries Magic Pen Reds Scaling health yellows (Working towards them) Scaling CDR Blues AP Quints

Rush Morello for the 20% CDR and mana regen Sorcerers boots Ludens Echo Rabba/Voidstaff Then last I often get a hextech gunblade, I feel the active is quite nice on Azir, and it provides spellvamp which gives him sustain for his health, it also doesn't technically have wasted stats as it has nice AP, Spellvamp and the AD, although not great, helps if they stray out your deathzone.

However I was thinking if this would be a better build?

Rush Morellos Tear RoA Archangels Ludens/Rabbadons Voidstaff

Which would be better? Compare DPS, Burst, Sustain, Health Ect

How should you build him? I personally never get nashors on him as it seems to be a waste.

His soldier don't apply "On-Hit" effects so Life Steal, Nashor's Tooth, and Wit's End are all bad for him.

You wanna rush CDR ASAP, and then stack AP with a Rylai's thrown in so you don't blow up too fast.

item 3158, item 3165, item 3285, item 3116, item 3089, item 3135

You can swap an item 3174 for the item 3165 if you are facing a lot of magic harrass in lane, i.e. Leblanc .

Thing is I've played Azir most my league life so I don't really have bad match ups with him. Only time I lose lane is when I get ganked/camped mid which i still haven't figured out how to stop :(

Also I really kind of like item 3146 because of the spellvamp and the slowing/damaging active.

His Q slows, so the active slow is wasted if you hit them with 2+ soldiers. MS slows only stack with a 65% reduced efficiency (35% of max MS slow is minimum effect) after the most powerful effect.

Spellvamp can be nice on him. I'd just go for WotA. No need to waste gold on the AD, AS, and Life Steal.

The op is running cdr runes so he reaches the cap without lucidity boots

20% from Morello's + 15% from Boots + 5% from masteries = 40% CDR in my build.

I don't really build WotA so I don't have any wasted CDR. It's also better to rush the CDR an Azir. You can get Morello's + boots much faster than Morello's + WotA.

Don't build tear on Azir. He has very low mana costs to begin with so the extra mana pool is fairly useless. Zhonyas provides much more power and defense than a seraphs, and it takes much less time to complete.

RoA is probably okay but it's not a "grab it whenever" item. You build RoA first, before Morello. Would really only recommend that against an Assassin and even still it's probably better to just rush seekers armguard or athenes instead.

I have never played azir but i've seen someone go dps azir : rageblade, nashor, wits and end with ap items. This was actually pretty strong so maybe you could give it a try...?

Wouldn't work

Rageblade would be meh on him, give him AS and spellvamp but not usefull unless he's below 20% at which they're going to burst him down, nashors passive is wasted as is wits end.

tear and roa arent the greatest on him, especially if you don't go for them first (as they delay his spike) He doesnt exactly charge tear quickly and the higher max mana is kinda meh.

First item morello is great, the stats are all great for him and gives him a good mid game. then boots, sorc shoes if you want to keep running the scaling cdr glyphs, or you could change those out for scaling ap and then get lucidity boots for an earlier 40% cdr power spike.

After the boots, you go either deathcap or void staff, depending on whether the enemy team has mr (I forget the exact numbers but generally just 1 MR item makes void staff more gold efficient at this point). So your build would be item 3165 item 1001 item 3135 in mid game (boot upgrade of choice depending on which glyphs you went with), giving good mid game Q burst and sustained damage if they stay in range of the soldiers.

Now you can either get deathcap to increase your damage the most, or get a more defensive choice like zhonya or abyssal. Of course if you got the deathcap as your 2nd item you would go void staff now.

your 4th item is always situational for the matchups, as is the 5th. Use your best judgement on what to get.

item 3165 item 3158 item 3135 item 3089 item 3157 (defensive situational such as GA or Banshees veil) is pretty great late game

Or run 3 AS in your masteries, scaling AP glyphs, go double morellos for the 40% cdr and just say screw it :D (Note that you can replace Morello's in this post anywhere it appears with athene's in certain matchups as the early mr might just be needed)

I'm not fond of getting zhonyas, I feel it's active is a bit of a liability as Azir unless you're playing against someone who you REALLY need it for like zed, What other viable last items are there? Is Hextech Viable? I really like the active late game aswell as spellvamp and I don't want to get WotA as the CDR goes to waste (Though an argument could be made the AD goes to waste on Hextech, but it's nice for pushing towers late game too) Not sure about rylais because all his skills are technically AOE and therefore have rylais effectiveness reduced to 15% IIRC (Spell vamp is reduced too but it doesn't matter as much since it's a collective effect rather than an applied effect like rylais)

There is zero reason to build gunblade over wota. It offers less AP, less sustain, and no CDR.

If you decide to go Wota I would only advise against a team that's very heavy in poke (Jayce, Nidalee, Ziggs, Xerath) but even still the sustain is pretty pathetic and you'd be better off just dodging and buying a defensive item like Banshees, Zhonyas, or Ryalis.

Even with all his skills being AOE, the slow on ryalis is substantial because of how quickly you're autoing. It also gives you a ton of health.

TheRakkun2 votes

Both give the same amount of AP (80 AP) but one has an active that bursts and slows while the other gives 10% cdr. Just a correction. I'll try running rylais, because I really don't think zhonyas active is a good thing on azir, you don't want to ever stop moving.

item 3001 item 3102 item 3116 item 3023 item 3157 item 3026 item 3060 item 3285 are all able to be built on him (some are more situational than others like banner) I personally prefer zhonya over ludens on azir, because Zhonya's has saved my life more than once lol (that hecarim running at you, bam zhonyas he now looks idiotic jumping through you)
