Why make it that the first jungle mobs need a leash?

What is the thought behind this?

I'm a blind pick noob and that is most likely my problem, but just at the leash alone so many things tend to go wrong when selfishness wins over teamplay.

What do you think about decreasing the strength of the first attacked jungle mob so that it can be killed solo, but decreasing the time until minions reach the lanes? (to prevent laners from helping anyhow)

junglers technically can go without a leash, but because laners don't lose minions while theyre leashing, and junglers get the camp done faster it makes clearing both healthier and more efficient. everything in the jungle is farming efficiently or ganking, leashing them gives more of both.

so leashing grants only benefits.

The point I'm trying to make though is that it wouldn't hurt to remove leashing by making solo jungling the first mob just as efficient as when given a leash while adding a cost when laners try to leash anyway.

Or would it?

I know that leashing is all about maximising efficiency. To me personally though it feels like an unnecessary feature to make obligatory if you want said max efficiency early on. What do you think?

I get what you are trying to say I believe.

Basically, why not riot balance the game to make leashing unnecessary since everyone does it anyway. I am kind of on board with that sentiment.

Riot could make the minions crash in the lane sooner so that the laners need to be in lane before the jungle monsters pop up. Then they can adjust early jungle camps so that the first clear feels better when solo. You might still have junglers start bot side so that the supports can help though. Interesting thoughts that I have considered before as well.

Exactly. You shame me good sir/lady by so aptly conveying my thoughts where my own words seem to have fallen short.

You definitely did a good enough job of conveying your message. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like many people are going to attempt to read into it enough to ACTUALLY understand what you were talking about. Which is a shame really, because I would like to know Riot's stance on it.

They can be killed solo, have been for the past couple of seasons, it is just that by helping the jungler, it helps keep them at a higher life while also allowing them to move quicker to jungling and there isn’t a downside in most cases to helping the jungle either.

They can already be cleared solo.

Why not just make first smite stronger against the very first camp?

Because that would just be a waste of a smite anyway.

Then I don't know. Maybe make it so the first camp is only weaker if you have machete?

Then that would be a nerf to anyone not starting with talisman. But regardless of what is done to make it easier to solo kill the first jungle monster, people are still going to leash because it makes the jungler start much easier with, at worst, only a single potential CS lost, and that's usually only if the top laner leashes. All a buff would do is make junglers pointlessly stronger.

Then... talisman too... the point is to not make it easy for laners to get a quick camp, not that I'm trying to gimp mages!

I think the currently leashing is fine tbh. Not sure why we would make minions spawn sooner, or want to.
