Build Rabadons on Support

Seriously, if you are a support that can also mid do Gold Income, Sightstone, Rabadons.

Throw in boots somewhere. A lot of supports have good AP scaling and can take some mean chunks out of the enemy.

I'll take Things said in Bronze for $1,000, Alex.

Ah, another League player that would rather throw around insults than actually discuss things.

But hey, you might get some upvotes!

Scary Door1 votes

Being Bronze is an insult? Isn't it just a rank?

Tobias Brackner1 votes

..... The context is clearly meant to be insulting.

At the very least it is said to imply the inferiority of Bronze in comparison to other ranks.

Scary Door1 votes

But Bronze is "inferior" to other ranks by it's very classification, if it weren't then there wouldn't be a ladder system. Silver is inferior to Gold, which is inferior to Platinum and so on.

So yes, I am not implying but openly stating that Bronze is inferior to other ranks because that is a simple statement of fact. I'm not saying the people are inferior, but the rank is most certainly.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Oh boy, here we go

Alright what does rank represent? Specifically.

Scary Door2 votes

Rank represents a culmination of one's abilities/skills and mastery in using them within the game. In general, the more aware you are of your champion, their skills and limits, your opponent, their skills and limitations and the ability to work with your teammates, the better you will perform and the higher you will climb. I say "in general" because there are anomalies within any small sample of games whereby someone may be 'unlucky', but overall, given enough gameplay you will ultimately end up in the position where you belong on the ladder.

Ranked placement represents your total comprehension of the game and, more importantly, your ability to execute it via mechanics and decision making.

So, a Bronze player may have good game knowledge, might even have decent mechanics, but decision making skills are probably even more important. The higher you climb, the more likely someone is to have all of these factors working simultaneously.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

So by your own admission, ranking reflects in-game decision making skills over everything else.

Scary Door1 votes

Absolutely.

Thus, it would be more likely that a Bronze player with lesser decision making skills would suggest rushing or purchasing Rabadons on a support.

Not an insult to them personally, just a reflection upon their in-game decision making skills or possibly (in this case) a reflection of game knowledge.

Now hold on, I said in-game decision making skills, didn't I?

Rabadons is garbage as AP item alone without having 2-3 AP items before getting it. If your going to build AP on a support like Annie or Zilean get a item 3027 followed by item 3165 . Better stat efficiency and more cost efficient and can still get a item 2301 before morellos.

As that play style needs to win lane building in the following order can allow you to have descent damage as a carry support come mid game.

item 3303 ->item 1026 item 1027 ->item 1028 item 2049 ->item 3010 ->item 3027 - >item 2301 - > item 3165 -> item 3135 .

If your team does not need you to carry then you can switch to building item 3107 item 3190 after getting item 3027 .

If you playing other AP supports like Zyra or Brand then item 2301 item 3151 item 3116 are better item choices

boots are situational

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Way I see it Rab gives the most flat AP in the game.

Faie3 votes

It's also one of the most expensive AP items in the game, and gives less overall damage to most support champs.

DeathBurst1 votes

It gives the most AP and costs the most gold. If it's your only AP item, the AP/gold you get is lower than on most other AP items.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Why would it be your only AP item?

DeathBurst1 votes

Because if it's your first, by definition it's also your only one for the moment. Building it 2nd or 3rd AP item is still a bad idea (other items passives/actives are still more useful than just the raw AP from Rabaddon), but AT LEAST it's gold efficient. But building it first AP just after gold item and sightstone, it's just ridiculously bad.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I don't see why it's ridiculously bad. Wouldn't getting Rabadon's first increase the efficiency of all subsequent AP purchases?

I see your argument for gold efficiency but to say "ridiculously bad" is being hyperbolic.

DeathBurst2 votes

Wouldn't getting Rabadon's first increase the efficiency of all subsequent AP purchases?

That's only true AFTER you buy that "subsequent AP purchases", not at the time you buy Rabaddon. Why not buy that second item first, since it's actually good by itself and THEN maybe consider Rabaddon? No, it's not hyperbolic to say Rabaddon as a first AP item is ridiculously bad. It's just that bad. Whatever way you turn it, there is absolutely 0 reason to buy Rabaddon as a first AP item.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Homie, you are not making any sense.

Rabadon's increases the AP value of all other AP items you buy after it by 35%

DeathBurst1 votes

It doesn't increase the value of items you haven't bought yet! It cannot get you value from the future into the present. So buy this other AP item FIRST, and Rabaddon SECOND, if at all.

Otherwise, you spend the whole time accumulating gold for your second item with a very inefficient Rabaddon in your inventory.

DeathBurst2 votes

At this point, I half wonder if you're trolling or not. You have 3 different people, including one from high Plat, just in this one sub-thread, who all agree together and who are trying to explain things to you without being condescending (and believe me, it's hard), your OP is at -21, 4 of the 5 top comment threads are telling you this is a dumb idea (and the last one is just some random guy saying he carried with Viktor Support, woohoo).

And despite everything, you act all smug and call us homie. At what point do you realize you're wrong? I mean, you have many ways... You could understand logic, you could trust people with better performances than you, you could trust the crowd consensus, anything. What do you think? That you're a lone misunderstood genius? Will you post a thread about ELO Hell tomorrow, and about how your 15-12-3 Sona is carrying hard, but your team is just too heavy?

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, way to stray away from the topic dude.

This your way of saying you have no idea what you are talking about?

DeathBurst1 votes

No, this my way of saying I'm tired of your idiocy and I'm not gonna entertain you for much longer.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Dude, you were pressed on all points you come up with and then when you realize you have no idea what you are talking about you just say "well other people say you're wrong too"

You wouldn't need to do that if you actually had a sound argument that reflects your understanding of what you are talking about.

DeathBurst1 votes

Yep, that's it. Nice troll, I'm out, see ya o/

AlienPrimate2 votes

More AP doesn't always mean more damage. Some champions scale better off of magic penetration than AP. Rabadon's also has no added affects to boost damage other than flat AP. Other items actually do damage themselves like Luden's and Liandry's.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I see, so there would be damage math involved to determine if it's a good item on a given support.

AlienPrimate2 votes

As a general rule, burst mages do better with AP and DoT mages do better with pen.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Well a lot of the support mages are Burst based.

Like, I think Malz is the only one that is really DoT focused.

AlienPrimate2 votes

Brand and Zyra

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I feel Brand is more bursty although I see what you mean by Zyra.

Mig891 votes

Liandrys is the best damage item in brand in my opinion because it stacks with his passive to provide guaranteed damage with hitting his abilities. Brand and zyra are my go to supports. Brand for going against a tank comp and zyra for squishier teams. Don't build rabadons. Liandrys and rylais are both cheaper and provide more damage on their own. Imo

Frightning2 votes

Yes, but it's also the single most expensive item in the game, and gives no other stats/effects than AP. Because of it's passive, it becomes more cost efficient the more AP you already have from other sources, but it doesn't reach the 'competitive' cost efficiency mark until you have about 150ish AP from other sources. So buying before that point results in short-term losses, which is very bad for your power curve, especially considering (most) AP champions have inherently mid-game centric power curves because of how AP itemization and ability based scaling work. So you don't want to build it early, but you also don't want to wait too long (because once it is competitive cost efficiency wise, it's the best buy you can make because all the gold you spend from then on out on AP will be giving you 35% more return on investment).

I can't stand it when I see AP mid laners w/ 4-5 items...none of them item 3089...such a waste of potential.

that's because nobody plays viktor support and the bar is extremely low

Frightning2 votes

You don't get enough AP from item 2301 to make deathcap efficient right away, so I usually pick up a item 3165 or item 3027 next depending on who I am, sometimes, item 3157 (e.g. on Morgana), then get the item 3089 (you need about 150 AP from other sources before deathcap is cost efficient enough to be comparable to other full items (circa 130% of gold value in stats iirc).

Tobias Brackner1 votes

This is usually what I do too unless it's a complete bloodbath and I'm rolling in dosh.

CØulrophobia2 votes

Janna with mejais and rabadons can shield your entire HP bar.

Reaper Soraka1 votes

I like building rabadon's when I know my team doesn't need me.

You know, those teams where you have a 15-2-3 fizz and 21-2-6 ezreal. When the only way you'll lose is if your smurf carries allies disconnect and never come back. You and the other two players could run it down mid and the enemy team is still sorely outmatched.

Huh... they need to fix the fact those games can actually still happen.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I don't see how a bunch of AP would suddenly make a support worse at their role.

Aptest1 votes

idk how it works in your region.

but if i have to have the balls and start the skirmish by being in the other team's jg / top / mid's face and throw my stuff at them....

...than invariably I become a focus target....

...that AP is not helping me much in this situation.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

in their face spells don't have range

What game are you playing?

Aptest1 votes

The game where I'm playing a mobile playmaker, rather than the ADC's bodyguard.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

What?

But if you are building Rabadons then you are AP support

AP supports have ranges on their spells.

So unless you've been building Randuins on your AP supports then you were getting blown up either way. 90% of your ability to not become a focus target comes from positioning.

A Rabadons doesn't make you magically awful at positioning.

Aptest1 votes

honestly, the reason i don't like playing Brand / Zyra is that these are all dedicated back-liners.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Dude, you aren't even talking about the subject of this thread anymore.
