Just had a game where none of us were placed in either of our prefered roles

Potato Doc··65 votes·16,535 views

Luckily we were all vocal about it and so we swapped, but 5 people and not a single one got their preferred role. Why does this still happen? Rito plz!

If everyone is autofilled, no one is.

Back to season 1 I guess

I have had this before too and the same thing happened. We just switched around and made things work. I do not understand how this happens

They should give players the option to not have auto fill (longer queue times ) or have auto fill (shorter queue times) and the system should balance how many people are auto filled on each team

I agree

Problem with having an option for no autofill is that some people opting for no autofill means that people who still have autofill on will get autofilled to support due to lack of supports, because there are less people to autofill from. Then, those people will get fed up for getting autofilled way more than usual, so they opt out of autofill. That means most people will eventually opt out of autofill and queue times for everyone will be insanely long.

Every game needs two people of each role of similar mmr to start a game. But when you have (just throwing numbers) 100 top laners queued up, 150 midlaners, 120 adcs, 70 supports, and 120 junglers, then that means that only 70 players of each role get to play, which is 35 games. That would leave 30 toplaners, 80 midlaners, 50 adcs, and 50 junglers left without a game, all waiting for a support of similar mmr to queue to start a game. This would lead to extremely long queue times. Autofill evens out the number of people in each position, for example moving people to support to compensate for the lack of supports to start a game.

(im not saying i like autofill, i personally find it annoying, im just saying that no autofill right now would not work. its easier to just play support once in a while imo)

The support is the MOST INFLUENCIAL PERSON, according to apdo and many other high elo players, so having an auto filled support is such a disadvantage, Secondly, it's ranked, it should be a competitive environment, and therefore, the games should be made as competitive as the system can make them, so therefore removing auto fill will significantly increase the competitiveness of the game

Yea i know, its just that the choice seems to be either autofilled support or insanely long queue times.

RavenHusky1 votes

It does not work like that. The more people who "opt out" of autofill, the fewer supports there will be in the queue, which will continue to dwindle as people get sick of playing support every single game. Eventually, games will not start at all, just like back in season 5.

Autofill is intended to be the compromise of being able to pick your desired roles, and filling in the demand for the less popular roles.

Since when has autofill ever meant anything other than support?

Toplane is the least picked role Na plat +, not support

OK

Except for two things: THE ROLES ARE GENERALLY BALANCED WITHIN FIVE PERCENT PICK RATE OF EACH OTHER, so most of the time finding a support shouldnt be difficult (besides support is the best role according to apdo)

(Not technically relevant) Secondly in Na above plat, toplane is the least played role

this, This, THIS, ALL OF THIS, I would be more than happy to wait a few extra minutes to not be fucking autofilled.

Rico Nasty10 votes

The entire concept of autofill is fucking stupid. If I have to wait for 10 minutes to play my preferred role that i'm best at and enjoy the most, ESPECIALLY in ranked, i will do so. This all started cause of impatient people whining on the boards about queue times and people aggressively circlejerking about it.

Karunamon2 votes

The answer seems simple. Autofill becomes a checkbox. If the box is checked, you might get it. If not, your queue times go up but no more bullshit like getting autofilled troll supports.

Terozu3 votes

Except no its not that simple.

Karunamon1 votes

It is literally that simple. There's already logic in the backend to turn autofill on and off for each player, it's just right now based on your match history. Tie that to a checkbox which sets a flag on the account and you're done.

Let people decide if they want faster games with possibility of not getting the role they want, or waiting it out to ensure they get their role. What's the downside?

Steelflame3 votes

The fact that as more and more people click that box, you can run into population shortages in specific roles and games flat out NEVER start. Especially in high elo situations where there are so few players that you can't depend on there being an even remotely even number of players at any one point, especially with the role bias in the higher elos.

Karunamon1 votes

You mean population shortages that basically mean autofill == support like exist now?

High elo is a different beast and is irrelevant to literally 90% of the millions of people playing this game - it can be handled specifically.

Terozu1 votes

Autofill doewnt just put you support. And removing it affects everyone. Not just the people that don't like it.

Marothennan8 votes

working as intended

Alex h87218 votes

The combination of autofill and MMR has made matchmaking a shitshow, we should have 5 separate MMR ratings for each position ideally and that would make for fairer matches but would be a lot harder to code into the matchmaker.

Steelflame1 votes

And it would make queue times even more atrocious.

AlienPrimate1 votes

This would actually improve queue times if someone were to code it. Everyone would have lower MMR on their off roles. There are more people in lower ranks meaning that the super high ranked people would get reduced queue times on off roles when being matched with lower rank players. The problem with this idea comes with shot calling and role swapping. That person can just swap role to their main and destroy everyone. Even if they don't swap, they can single handily control the pace of the game by making decisions for the entire team.

fits perfectly into theory that riot wants to control peoples losses and wins

Ixoziel6 votes

Overzealous autofill.

Automated Riven6 votes

I'm assuming you had a bunch of denied ques? I get in the habit of restarting matchmaking every time that happenes. Iirc what happens is that everyone was in que so long that it had placed everyone on autofill already, this results in everyone essentially being fill. But really we should get rid of autofill.

Potato Doc2 votes

No actually it was first in

Cavesloth4 votes

Autofill working as intended lols.

IdveYsUfSK3 votes

you are forced to autofill roles you cant win with for the lose. To make it force a 50% winrate.

Boiled Triangles2 votes

Rather than forcing players to play roles they're uncomfortable with, why not give incentive to?

Steelflame2 votes

They tried that. Worse shit-show. You ended up with people queuing support and then holding the game hostage to get the role they ACTUALLY wanted.

Karunamon1 votes

You mean unlike now where people get autofilled support and then hold the game hostage to get the role they actually want?

Steelflame1 votes

Better than them queuing up support to intentionally do so while getting rewarded for it. Trust me on that one, it was common enough to be such a big issue that they fully removed the incentive mechanic.

Terozu2 votes

Ima call bs.

Katheara1 votes

Play one role multiple times in a row and eventually you'll be guaranteed that role or your second choice. I always get my two roles.

Modl Ryden l1 votes

Autofill? No big deal.

Let's talk about you and your teammates and how you were all able to trade roles effectively. That's something this community needs. To be vocal and not be so sensitive when they don't get their desired roles. Good communication makes a good community.

GripaAviara1 votes

Because the matchmaking is super busted, but riot ignores this since there's a very vocal part of the community that actually defends the system. Stockholm syndrome

Lajinn51 votes

Because autofill is busted as hell. Somebody dodges out of lobby or people refuse to hit accept 2-3 times in a row? Better drop that queue or you're going to end up god knows where

Harden Stepback1 votes

congrats you are the 1 in 10 millionth person that this could happen to

Lord of Math1 votes

They should replace autofill with more in depth preffered roles, you pick five roles instead of two. For instance, sometimes I want to play anything but adc.
