Aurelion Sol and the- oh, look, he's already dead. @Riot

I recently made a post (when the Assassin rework was announced, but not yet released) about my concern on the playabality of AurelionSol, as someone who mains him. In that post, I expressed my concerns that he has already been nerfed a lot, and is extremely vulnerable to assassins. Extremely. Vulnerable. He was nerfed right after release, nerfed again over the summer, and again in, I believe, August (I might totally be wrong here). So when I saw that Assassins are going to be reworked, I wasn't really thrilled. Then, of course, I posted a discussion voicing my fear that with the assassin 'buffs', Aurelion would no longer be playable. People immediately assured me that 'rework' did not mean 'buff', and there was not much reason to worry at all.

And now the rework has been released and shown off. And it certainly does seem like a buff- most of the champions seem to have been given more mobility, or more escape and chase potential. For example, one of the ways Aurelion can quickly escape an area is quickly E away as soon as he sees an enemy champ and is alone. However, if Talon can E over terrain quickly, coupled with Flash, he can land an ability on Aurelion and bring him down, not allowing him to escape. One of Aurelion's greatest strengths is his mobility around the map, and this mobility is a big part of the reason why stunning an opponent while running away often allows him to escape. With Katarina's movement boost, and Talon's E, as well as other minor changes, it feels like Aurelion is being countered, blocked, beaten up, and destroyed at every turn. In fact, I'd say he might soon be unplayable- at least, that is my, now, very real fear.

So, @Riot, is there anything you might say that might show or explain why it's not so? Because I also realize I don't understand or know everything about this, and would like to give a chance to possibly listen and acknowledge why Aurelion Sol might still be viable. Please, explain why this is being done.

Thank you! [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not hyped for the assassin rework, it terrifies me knowing I have to stop playing Sol just because may people will pick the buffed up assassins in the mid lane.

I also am worried a lot, mostly because Edge of Night, this item removes any chance of Aurelion Sol surviving an assault: charge shield -> engage -> dead AS beause he can't Ult you back to place.

Not to mention that my other main, Xerath, will also suffer a lot.

I'd say the changes to assassins are actually pretty good for Aurelion.

Talon can jump over terrain and flash onto you, but you can just ult him away and have him perma CC'd (with stun and slows from Rylais).

Kat's dagger shows where she's gonna end up, so Sol can just leave his orbs above it to either zone her out or put some extra damage on her.

Many assassins who had a way to quickly close the gap to melee range (which is when Aurelion has the most problems) were nerfed or got that ability removed.

If anything, the thing that will cause the most problems to Aurelion is Edge of the Night, as the spell shield will totally cock block with ult, which is his only self peel at melee range.

I AGREE WITH YOU THAT SOL IS GUNNA BE IN A BAD SPOT AS SOON AS SEASON 7 HIT BUT AFTER ALL THE HYPE OF ASSASSINS GO DOWN HE WILL BE VIABLE AGAIN. ITS NOT THAT HE WONT BE STRONG ITS THAT THE META AT THE TIME WILL COUNTER HIM YOU JUST GOTTA WAIT FOR THE META TO SHIFT OR LEARN HOW TO BEAT THEM WITH SOL ITS POSSIBLE IF U CS WELL(BTER THAN THEM ) AND JUST SCALE INTO THE MID GAME. MY FAVORT MATCH UP ARE INTO COUNTERS SOMETIMES BECUZE THEY GET COCKY AND ALOWS YOU TO OUT PLAY THEM

But Aurelion Sol is the most broken OP champion in the game! The Korean #1 said so!

God I hate caps.

@OP What are some other weaknesses of AS? I've never played him personally and have only seen to dominate pro play so I'm curious what his counters are besides assassins.

i agree with u that most of them are hard match up but they arnt un-winable just takes practice and as it was already said u pick him for the team fight
