Honestly, Veigar shouldn't even have that 80% enemy AP ratio on his ult

Gesusandalaio··56 votes·2,882 views

That's literally out of place and has no reason to be here.

"yea but hes an anti-ma-”

Fuck off, that's literally the only anti-mage thing in his kit.

See Kassadin, a TRUE anti-mage:

  • Magic damage reduction passive
  • Q that gives a shield against magic damage only
  • Q interrupts channel spells
  • E working on all spell casts in lane
  • R giving him enough mobility to play around skillshots.

Now that's a real anti-mage.

He is not a anti mage, he is a corrupter of cosmic energy. He is not about resisting magic like kassadin (magic shield, magic damage reduction, channel interruption, blink, ...), he is about stealing magic and use it for his own purpose (ap stacking from dead enemys, enemy ap scaling (his old passiv: 20% aoe ap steal))

rip old passive, used to be the most hidden power in league

kassadin is now a better anti mage without mr/lvl

I dont get it.

Some months ago, people were complaning about Veigars ult ratio going down from 1.2 AP to 1.0.

Now they complain about it being too strong ?

I mean, Veigar was never seen after his rework, even after the extremly high amount of buffs he gotten. He only got popular when a pro player played him and did well with him. Yes, Veigar is strong, he was always viable, a bit underpowered after his rework, but he wasnt trash like 90% of the community said.

Also Veigar isnt broken if thats you want to try to say to us. You can make every champ look OP if you do it right (Galio has a spell that makes him regain HP under inhib/nexus towers, OMG !), Veigar has, in contradiction to previously broken champs like LeBlanc, alot of counterplay.

One single item can screw your enemy up, and its not like with Zed when people said "just get Zhonya duh". No, it's QSS, 1250 gold, extremly cheap and effective. Also, Zed is alot stronger early then Veigar, so he tear you apart before you get the counter item. Veigar cant. Too busy farming with Q.

Also, buying straight AP against Veigar is like you searched for being killed. Instead of that Large Rod, buying the maxed shoes or some mana item is a good option.

Axis the Dragon1 votes

Hell, if you're playing a champ that likes Abyssal, get a Negatron as early as possible. Bam, there goes a bunch of Veigar's damage.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

It can b rebuffed to 1.2. Anyway, new Veigar always only needed his last W buff.

except.... if that portion were removed then it would deal roughly 1600 damage. - your ~40% MR, or close to 1200 damage. for a single target nuke ability. (assuming rank 3 with ~~ 1000 AP)

in which case its still a projectile which can be outright negated by braum/yasuo, or dodged with zhonyas. and has a short range.

mind you, thats someones ultimate, of which hes a squishy AP mage who needs to get in deadly close to use it, making it highly risky for him to try.

or ya know, you could put a rumble ult down and chunk everyone in the team to half or less. as opposed to 1 shot a carry if you get close enough in that team setting. or same thing with a vel koz with dealing bonus true damage, (can deal upwards of 2k damage to MULTIPLE targets over the duration)

which is why its justified, because most other mid laners poke him or burst him before he gets that chance. very few get in close (sparing ahri, leblanc, fizz) and a bunch of others are tanky enough to tank it outright (malz, swain, brand, cho, galio, kassadin)

so who does it 1 shot? oh right, ADC's after the 35minute mark where he has amassed at least 300 bonus AP. but still doesn't doesn't 1 shot an ADC at that time. but hey, you dont need banshes, merc scim, guardian angel on your carry anyway.

now tell me, the largest, single target nuke ability in the game, shouldn't deal more damage.

why not just change the ability to deals X amount more damage when missing Y% amount of health? would that make you feel better? if it were used as an execute rather than a pick ability?

if you get close enough to veigar you deserve to take his R. if you didnt counter build and shut him down you deserve to get 1 shot if you are OUT OF POSITION, if the game isn't over at 40+ minutes

DrNova1 votes

I can't say I agree kass can tank it.

Dont know why this gets downvoted, it's true.

because the majority of the players are disgusted that an immobile carry "suddenly" appears powerful and theres nothing they can do when they go full ham AD/AP build zero health or resistances why any single targeted ability has the right to 100-0 them. and knowing nothing about veigar, they just spew "nerf nerf nerf OP oP op"

Borbland1 votes

Yeah. They dont know QSS really counters him hard.

Big Lincoln7 votes

he used to passively steal AP from enemies around him

they relocated it to his ult at some point and made it scale off of their AP instead of directly stealing it

Alas, there is no humor in such discussion, and I have little to say with confidence; though I play Veigar with great frequency, I am by no means an expert on game balance. My expertise lies in thematics and design, and thus I will remain quiet until either are seriously impacted.

Honestly, Veigar is fine he is just seeing some play and you have no idea how to play against him.

5.4

  • Primordial Burst: AP ratio reduced to 100% from 120% (nerf)

1.0.0.112

  • Primordial Burst: Enemy AP ratio reduced to 80% from 100% (Nerf)

These are the only two changes to his ult.

So from patch 1.0.0.112 the enemy AP ratio has been at 80%. Why the hell are you complaining about that. Veigar has never been a problem and was considered trash tier until the change on his W where it goes on CD immediately instead of .25 seconds later. That is it.

Why you are so mad about this I have no idea. If you truly believe this then why havent you been posting about this more instead of waiting until Veigar is suddenly FOTM? People have been stating he is strong for months now, that he isn't actually trash tier but no one listened until they got blown up late game by a hyper scaling mage.

For the record. I do not play Veigar. He is fun but I have champs that I am better at overall that I can use to outplay Veigar. He isn't that hard to do that to.

Rendarkan2 votes

I feel if you get blown up by Veigar late game you deserved it as its really him going "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I FARM!"

Maximum Morde4 votes

Early and Mid, that AP ratio is pretty meh. Late it's nice but I almost never use it on an AP champ cause there are more important targets usually, except for Leblanc or Ahri. I'll use it on them just so I don't have to deal with their annoying mobility bullshit.

Vekkna5 votes

Which is something you can do because Veigar also gets 100% AP scaling from his own fucking ulti. Hardly any other mages even get that, especially on point-and-click abilities. Syndra has to have 2 balls out before she can even get from 60% AP to 100% AP.

Most damage mages have an AOE ultimate though, with a few exceptions like Malzahar.

Vekkna3 votes

Yes, and most of those AOE ultis have lots of built-in counterplay because they're skillshots or have some sort of delay. Zyra's ulti, for example, only scales with 70% AP and has a cc delay 4x longer than Event Horizon for a cc that's less than half the duration.

The only real outlier I could think of is Viktor's broken-as-fuck ulti that is AOE, smart-chases, and scales with 195% AP over time.

Borbland2 votes

But Zyra can hit an entiere team and knocks up.

Also, dont mix two abilities together to compare to another, that doesnt work up too well.

And against Viktors ulti, there is something called "moving" that is extremly strong to prevent getting damaged.

3TWarrior1 votes

well, not if viktor has Rylai's ...if he lands the ultimate on you directly, you will not escape it

ChaoticPinecone1 votes

Hardly any mages have a single-target ult.

Lets see: Syndra (60% if youre lazy, you should get at least 100%, 140% if youre pro), Malz (130%), Cho (70% as true damage), Leblanc (60% at least, 120% max, or 90% as AoE) . Naut has 80%, and does AoE at 40%. Akali has 150% total with mobility, Diana has 120% total with mobility, Ahri has 90% total with mobility.

If your opponent comes back to lane with 100 AP, that's an extra 80 damage on your ult, and that will happen pretty damn early. The enemy AP ratio is huge.

It's just very rare that the little extra damage boost from enemy AP makes the difference between dead or not early game. Either they were out of position and you will get multiple qs off as they try to run, or they were low enough that your burst overkilled. Veigar isn't really a my burst just barely killed them guy. He either over kills or it takes multiple rotations.

Rendarkan1 votes

Kassadin hasn't been anti-mage even before then considering he was 100% ban at one time.

Curling Veigar4 votes

If you remove that, increase his own AP ratio. it use to be 120% AP + 80% of enemy AP, too.

It's been suggested many times. I'm up for removing the random 80% thing for an increase to his own ratio

lB2kGRlc8y4 votes

He's not an anti mage, he punishes bad builds and bad plays. If no mistakes are made, he's incredibly weak, as 1/3 of his damage is reliant on you standing still for a full second. This is the primary reason he excels in team fights, because his allies can force people to eat his highly telegraphed easily dodged ablities.

Hupsis3 votes

I would be ok with it... IF the travel time got increased by 1000% (maybe 500% if it was given a cast time of 1 second).

It's impossible to react to the spell if you weren't born with lightning reflexes.

Audiomancy3 votes

The way I see it, Veigar is an anti-mage, but he's not the only one.

We have Kassadin , the mobile, magic-nulling assassin, Galio , the immobile anti-magic tank and Veigar , the squishy anti-mage... mage. So essentially:

Kassadin : Speed Galio : Defense Veigar : Power

I wouldnt really say Kassadins E or his ult make him an "anti mage", his Q interrupting channels is questionable too. But yeah, unlike Veigar, he actually is an anti mage and doesnt just have an overloaded ult lol.

alfavhunter1 votes

Counter idea

Veigar ult causes him to steal 20% of the targets ap for 10/15/20 seconds instead of applying it to his R damage

This distrubutes the bonus damage to his Other abilities which have more counter play to it, and reduce his ability to delete people with R till late game

(The bonus damage on R becomes 20% their ap but applies it before projectile lands so he still gets the bonus even if his ult is dodged, the damage is also buffed by 20% enemy ap which is severely less than current value, but let's it distribute the damage over his other spells)

Spicay1 votes

The real reason Veigar doesn't need the 80% AP damage is that his ult one-shots you anyway.

The bonus damage is just overkill.

1000angrybees1 votes

He's not Anti-Mage. He literally just punishes AP champs for building their main stat.

CupcakeTrap1 votes

He's not an anti-mage. He's a mage with carry-esque lategame scaling and a very weak early game, which means he gets beat up in lane. The ult ties that together by helping him (in a flavorful way) take vengeance on his lanephase tormentor.

And yes, I said "carry-esque". The phrase "AP carry" is an abomination. Much of the tone of a MOBA comes from different classes having different power curves. "Linear warriors, quadratic mages, cubic carries". That doesn't mean that carries ("ADCs" or "Marksmen") are superior. It means that they have the most scaling potential. Veigar's weird in that, whereas mages usually peak super-hard mid-game and then fall off if the game goes on much longer, Veigar has a more moderate midgame and a noticeably stronger late game, in exchange for a painfully weak early game.

Then again, I'm starting to wonder how accurate this is. From what I hear, it was much, much more accurate in DOTA, and it's become less and less accurate in League as time goes on.

Axis the Dragon1 votes

In DotA, most melee carries have as much as or perhaps even more of an exponential curve than ranged carries simply because kiting is a lot harder (what with the game having turn rates).

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

I made a similar post as a question, a LEGIT question, and I got downvoted and all comments talked about me jumping on the circlejerk veigar nerf train, while I JUST FREAKERINO ASKED

Kassadin looks more like an assasin because he goes in, kill the carry and goes out.

Curling Veigar1 votes

Veigar lost 40% of his damage since he was reworked, l0l

MrDrBudd1 votes

I could argueGalio isnt an antimage because his passive is the only antimage thing in his kit with this logic.

Bârd1 votes

You realize that if they removed that, they would have to buff the living shit out of his other spells to compensate, right?

Hailian1 votes

Better sit down, because I'm going in, what Riot needs is a real Anti Mage, Kassadin is indeed way closer than Veigar(atleast old kassadin) but we need a champion with a blink, a mana burn on auto attacks, spell resistance as a passive and an ult that deals an execute based on how much mana the opponent is missing.....wait....thats Anti Mage kit in Dota2 woops
