Even though he's been garbage and a joke for the past couple years, they will not touch him at all because he may or may not get a change in the next class update in 6 months.

Aatrox will probably be worked on sometime in 2017, as Divers will almost certainly get the second Roster Update of this year (after Tanks), and while I lost track on it, he was at least supposed to be getting some small band-aid work for the time being by the Live Gameplay team.

Also, why would he need a Visual Update? His visuals are fairly modern.

Why? He has always looked to me to be a carbon copy of Irelia or Xin Zhao. A paint-by-numbers diver with gapcloser, auto steroid with sustain, cc for his abilities with nothing interesting to contribute to the game. Even on release before we saw him ruin top lane I thought "why is this champion being released? why did they spend time and effort to finish something so dull?"

I think he was just a remnant of Riot's strategy of really focusing on releasing a set number of champs per year which caused them to push his kit into production even though they didn't have any really good or polished ideas about how he would play.
