I mean what is the point of this item anyway? Can someone explain?

Its to be paired with item 3065 so you can quite literally just leave a teamfight and not even have to recall from near death because it'll heal all your health back very quickly.

Build item 3083 item 3065 item 3748 item 3022 item 3053 on any hp loving tank. AAs hit like trucks. 1 shots waves. Sustain through the fight with Titanic then back out when about dead and reenter with full HP 10 seconds later.

Proceed to win every bronze game.

I usually swap the FM for a DMP and then throw in a Sunfire Cape, but yeah. Sion is nigh unkillable with that setup.

Meep Man4 votes

Unfortunately, absolutely no armor there.

LordGeovanni1 votes

combinded with that both armor and mr is shit at low values and items only give low values along with low hp values.

WiegrafOfValor1 votes

Not saying he's right, but if we swap item 3053 for item 3026 or item 3512 or item 3143 you have one hell of a Tank capable of engage in any TF.

Sejuani item 3111 item 3083 item 3065 item 3022 item 3748 item 3143 = Scary Nautilus item 3047 item 3083 item 3065 item 3022 item 3748 item 3512 = Disgusting Alistar item 3047 item 3083 item 3065 item 3022 item 3748 item 3143 = Don't want to bump on that guy in a dark alley

Don't need to pair it with Visage for that lel.

This is exactly the opposite of how to use Warmog's. Warmog's is meant to be used as the sole means of hp regen for champions who don't have innate healing such as Skarner and Sejuani. The passive is so strong that any other regen items are redundant and wasted. Ironically, warmog's is good on champions with super poor base hp regen/sustain since the healing is always a % of your health, like Soraka.

  • Big boost of HP.
  • Easier sustain for Tank champions when out of combat.
  • Sassy CDR.
  • Good item to buy if Armor & MR is already sufficient.

I would rather have a thornmail, deadmans, or randuins, or really any of the armor/mr items over warmogs. never enough, amirite? and late game, warmogs falls off. I would rather take less damage in the long run than have the bonus hp instantly deleted by some adc with LDR

Or someone with in-built True DamageVayne & champions who can utilize the Armor Shreddingitem 3071 . Having about 70% of your builds being purely Armor is not highly considered "tank" at all.

This is a point that's often overlooked.

Once you've built Tabi and one other armor item, assuming you're up against a team with Cleaver on it, in terms of maximizing your effective HP you're better off building pure HP and basically ignoring armor since the shred makes it cost inefficient.

Unfortunately, there really aren't any items that allow a champ to reliably hit the health goals for reaching optimal EHP. It used to be possible when Warmog's gave 1.2k HP, but it hasn't been now for quite a while.

No you are not right... since armor and mr have diminishing returns. (AKA you need more of it to get the same effect as you do when you have less...also lethality is % based so...you need EVEN MORE ontop of that)

Glory ln Death3 votes

Armor and MR do not have diminishing returns. That is a myth that has long been disproven.

Lethality is a flat amount of armor penetration. Not percent based.

Danjeng1 votes

I'm confused about what diminishing returns means. Doesn't it mean that the more resistances you have, the less cost efficient stacking resistances becomes? Like 100 armor gives 50% damage reduction, while 200 armor gives 66% damage reduction, rather than 100%.

Glory ln Death1 votes

In order to achieve the maximum possible Effective Health, yes, simply stacking resistances becomes inefficient (you need to have a mix of resistances and actual Health). But the idea of diminishing returns is that every point of a resistance gives you less than the previous point.

Sometimes, people assume that Armor and Magic Resist give diminishing returns because of the displayed % damage reduction, but that isn't actually correct. The correct way of looking at Armor and MR is looking at how much Effective Health they give. If you look at the % damage reduction, you can apply that to your health pool.

Say you had 1000 health. At 0 Armor, you have no damage reduction, so 1000 damage will kill you. Your Effective Health is 1000 HP.

At 100 Armor, you have 50% damage reduction, so 1000 damage will only deal 500. That means you have to take 2000 damage before you die, meaning your Effective Health is 2000 HP. The 100 Armor increased your Health by 1000.

At 200 Armor, you have 66% damage reduction, so 1000 damage will only deal 333. That means you have to take 3000 damage before you die, meaning your Effective Health is 3000 HP. You added 100 armor to the previous 100, which increased your Health by 1000 - the same as the first 100 Armor.

Every point of Armor or MR increases your Effective Health against physical or magic damage (respectively) by 1%, no matter how many points you have. 50 Armor gives you 50% increased Effective Health. 212 MR gives you 212% increased Effective Health. And so on.

Well now you really have to stack some resistance and armor. Bonus armor shred, lathelity, liandry, literally everything to make ur life horrible

Danjeng1 votes

It's rough world out there. If you stack armor, you'll get cleaved and penetrated. If you don't stack armor, lethality will get you.

I generally get about 200 of each resistance, I don't usually get higher, because of % shred in this game. Warmog's is good late game with enough resistances. The passive is also really good if you are sieging or fighting for an objective. It allows you to heal up in between fights. It's like a harder-to-proc yet stronger Garen passive. And if you are playing Garen, it's 2x the awesomeness. Who needs recalls?

Rebonack11 votes

The point of Warmog's is to give some sustain to champs who don't itemize lifesteal. Thus, if you don't kill them in a team fight they're going to bounce back to full health quickly.

48983507DEL15 votes

Yea, it's a pretty niche item that essentially gives Garen's passive to any champion. It's extremely nice for quick skirmishes where you can tank a bunch of damage, get out with a sliver of health, then heal it all back up within 10 seconds.

I say it's niche because there's few instances where it would actually be more useful than just backing. These are mainly limited to:

  • Team fighting, not getting an ace, but being able to heal enough to push down a turret without getting killed by the remaining enemies.

  • Healing up quickly after an ace in order to tank a tower.

  • Briefly leaving a team fight for 5-10 seconds to heal (this hardly ever happens as a tank).

  • Escaping a catch by the enemy and healing in time to start a favorable team fight.

  • Playing the whole game with a guerrilla warfare strategy (essentially playing like Garen).

Other than these, a different tank item is pretty much always favorable. It's a big enough niche to validate the item's existence, but it's never going to be more popular than the current top tank items.

Baron of Bread2 votes

It is really nice for the split pushing tank (like Shen) or fighter. When the enemy team comes to stop you but you escape with the slimiest amount of health you can almost immediately go back to pushing once they leave. It makes it very difficult to stop you from pressuring the map.

Very good in the mid game when you just hit 3000 hp.

I agree that it won't be as popular as the other tank items in most situations, but if split pushing becomes big in the meta again then I could see it being very popular.

34? Late game Garen? Dude that is way too small, his healing between passive and Warmogs is closer to 100 than it is 34.

add Volibear to that list as well.

Ediarai3 votes

It's an item that compliments a couple of champions with max hp scaling, like how Volibears would always rush warmogs back in the day

Melledoneus3 votes

It is meant as an easy-HP item that provides immense sustain between fights. It comes in handy when:

-Being sieged -Dealing with a champion who has LW/Void Staff -Enhancing HP scalings (Shen passive, Sejuani W) -Providing decent in-combat sustain -Severely upping survivability on high-resistance builds (Malphite armor stacking) -Topping off CDR while providing HP -Enhancing mid-game power (tanks are strongest at this time) -Putting the jugger in juggernaut

Warmog's is useful as a niche item, but I hope it becomes better after the tank update.

Baron of Bread2 votes

Really nice for split pushing as well. If you get chased off you can be right back at it as soon as they leave, without having to use TP.

Melledoneus1 votes

It's also great when you're low HP and being chased, and you regen and can jump back in with a full 180.

Dormidon2 votes

But this isn't really useful during teamfight and you need to have at least 3000 HP to make it at least somehow worthy. May be HP required for unlocking the passive need to be lowered? Let's say to 2500

Meep Man11 votes

But then what's the point of there being a threshold? The item would unlock itself most of the time if it wasn't rushed on a fed person.

Specifically to stop Soraka from rushing it.

SSShutTheDuckUp2 votes

It's niche is sustain for tanks, however I rarely see it build and I feel it offers a bit less than it should. Also tanks rarely care about out of combat sustain, outside of some very specific situations. It definitely has a lot of room for improvements

AlienPrimate2 votes

I only buy it when I think tanking towers for my team will be useful. After a won teamfight when lanes aren't pushed, a tank can just run down the lane and by time they get there they are full health again.

Rebonack1 votes

Crazy thought: What if Warmog's had an active component that triggered its super-healing even while in combat for some amount of time?

I suspect that would make it wildly more useful. And it probably wouldn't be too hard to find a duration/cooldown for it that would be reasonable.

Back when warnings turned into its current version they removed in combat healing... and riot promised to make regen "not feel silly". So I guess in combat regen except for lifesteal is silly...
