Is Azir considered OP?

When Azir came out everyone thought he was bad, now it seams people are considering him very powerful right now. Am I wrong in this observation?

He was strong on release and he is strong now. The issue is that his early game is weak and bad players, or players who just aren't good with him will get behind and never see his potential. You'd be surprised how many people played him once or twice, got shit on, and then never played him again.

He is certainly one of the top three/five toughest champs to play well and certainly one of the hardest to master. I've played with a few diamond Azirs and they do very well because they understand the champ, not perfect play of course, but much better than i can do with him lol.

He's always been strong, he's just hard to play when he's still bugged

In the right hands he is devastating and if you put 3 soldiers on a stunned person you will kill him in less then a second and i'm not joking but thats also his weakness he has very little cc and he needs cc so much to keep them in soldier range. I think in the right hands hes op but no one knows how to play him and i'm awfull with him. I would honestly call him the hardest champion in the entire game.

Azir also had the advantage that few people know exactly how he plays. Sure, we know the jist, but we haven't gone against him enough to know when we should stop chasing because he'll kill us. Those people patient enough to play Azir know when to turn and fight and when to run.

exactly got my first penta with him cus the inhibitor was the thing that should be focused, not me and my soldier poking through them all

I main him and that was my feeling as well. Everyone still says he is garbage. I've had people kick me from team builder for playing him, yet in games where I do get in I've had multiple times in double digit kills.

He's exceedingly hard to get down properly (high learning curve) but very strong when you do it. His exact counterpart would be Orianna, but in his case with a focus on attacking instead of spell bursting.

Overall though, he's not OP. He is counterable. There are lots of assassins with dash closers that can be a pain. Just so rarely seen no one knows how to do it. I hear they are applying a nerf to his soldier damage on the PBE, however I'm honestly hoping it never makes it to live. They say he's too strong late game, but that is kind of the point. He is like an ADC. If you survive long enough and get ahead you do great damage and yet are squishy and stay at distance.

So, in summary, Azir is an ability power adc (an actual apc) in a nutshell. People aren't used to seeing that thus opinions are heavily divided.

Is Azir considered OP?

Not yet

That said - everyone thought Elise, Lee Sin, Jayce, and Lucian were UP on their respective releases. Lucian was often listed as the single worst marksman in tier lists.

Champions in LoL with moderately difficult mechanics can take a while for an accurate representation of their potential to become popular opinion. Whatever their 1st week impression is tends to stick with them until it's proven wrong in professional play.

Azir seems like he's in the same general vein as the champions I listed. He's got tons of potential, but requires a solid player to really bring it out.

His Level 1 is weak, but once you get Q it's really easy to harass and zone from long range with W+Q. (It helps that a lot of players don't know his range yet.) Once you've whittled down your lane opponent's health, go in for the kill with W-Q-E ignite. That will usually get you a kill, force a flash, or both.

I would echo the sentiment that Azir struggles against high-mobility assassins. Katarina is probably the worst, and Fizz is also super annoying. I also see a lot of people taking item 2041 against Azir in lane. That said, Azir can absolutely bully most mages and melee, and his lategame carry potential is one of the best for any AP-based character in the game.

actually, azir can do well, going item 3027 and item 3135 asap can make you do a lot for yourself sustain and damage wise. the only thing is you must have six before or at the same time she does, otherwise you need to hope on your e to save you.

people label him op because they DON'T realize if your in range of his soldier and his spear is lowered, he will attack you

Azir Is not garbage or OP, He's one of those champs like Yasuo in the sense he has a very High Skill Cap.

Some people might disagree with my statement but here's the thing. With Yasuo Your either pro or your garbage, and its the same forAzir.

I will say that Yasuo has more TF ability though with his ult and wind shield.

He's very strong but not particularly "OP". I guess only time will tell.
