The first LeaverBuster Warning is rather harsh

I got stuck in the loading screen, and because of the server problems could not re-log and join the game. I understand having a large server base, I don't get up set about Riot's stuff not working, there are a massive amount of people using it it's not going to work all the time.

What I'm NOT ok with is coming back to a very passive aggressive text box making me out to be this horrible criminal for leaving a game. Things come up, I've had to leave games because sometimes there are more important things in life than a game of LOL. I sometimes leave games when my team is being highly toxic, sorry but I'm not ok with putting up with the rage that we have all been the recipient of. Sometimes my internet goes down, sometimes LOL crashes, in fact this is the most common reason for me to "leave" a game is things being messed up on Riots end.

When I leave a singe game(or more correctly, when Riot's servers screw up) and have get this very insulting message from Riot I grind my teeth while being forced to type the "I Agree" muttering F you Riot quietly to myself. But this effect can be fixed with simply reworking the message.

Right now if you leave a single game you get a box informing you that leaving a game is not ok and forcing you to type "I agree" to not leave more games. This is very heavy handed as is. As I've said a number of times things happen, every now and then even the best players are going to leave games, LOL is not the most important thing in life. To get treated like a criminal is insulting. Even more so when the reason I "left" was Riot's Fault.** I'm sorry that I want to be treated with the same respect I give Riot. **This is the message I got when I finally got back in:

Abandoning a match or being AFK results in an unfair game for your teammates, and is a punishable offense in League of Legends.

Do you agree not to leave any further games? (Type "I Agree" to continue)

There are a number of things about this that have negative implications that I could talk about, but the bottom line is it treats me like a child. I've been on the 4 side of a 4v5 enough to know the impact leaving has on a game. And Riot knows I know that. Instead of treating your players like a child, treat them as an equal, a friend or co-worker. Instead say:

"Leaving a game has a negative impact on it's players. Action may be taken against offenders in order to maintain a healthy community."

This treats the player with respect. "Leaving a game has a negative impact on it's players" is a truly neutral statement. It's a reminder rather than an accusation. We all know that the enemy team get an advantage, but commonly people don't think about the people behind the computers. And unlike the word "Abandoning" this does not call into question the player's understanding of it's effect on people. In addition the word "abandoning" imply's that it was a choice, and that it was the wrong choice, things that are not always the case.

Then "Action may be taken against repeated offenders in order to maintain a health community." This is another rather neutral statement and has 2 major differences. First is the word "may". It says that Riot can and will take action, but does not say that action will be taken over a single game(If you leave a 2nd game then that message would use a much more forceful word). Then at the end it follows up explaining why this is done. Maintaining a healthy community is something we all can agree is a good thing, and is a goal both Riot and the plays want. So instead of being like screw you Riot it feels very fair.

The "I Agree" thing also dos a number to piss off honest players(and it might be the case that that's a very small player base). There is good reason for it, and combined with changing the wording of the LeaverBuster Warning feels fair. But the words "I Agree" are flawed. Instead use "I understand". I understand the impact of leaving, I understand that doing so taints the community and I understand that it can have repercussions. But I don't agree to never leave another LOL game. I can't. If I want to or not at some point my internet will cut out, my cat will pull a wire from my computer or I'll have an emergency. If my brother fell down the stairs, hit his head and is bleeding out I'm going to take care of him over a LOL game. But by saying I agree that also says I agree that I am in the wrong. Very commonly Riot is the reason the player DCed. And that is not the players fault. As I said at the start, I understand DCs and server problems, no hard feelings. But I'm not ok with accepting the blame for it.

And to make it crystal clear, this post is about the message you get after a single left game. That's it. If your leaving multiple games your actions have warranted a more forceful approach. I like LeaverBuster, it's a good idea and over all does it's job well. What it does is great, but how it does it could use a little work.

TLDR: The warning after leaving a single game is overly aggressive.

I completely agree with this! I think if someone is consistently leaving games they should be forced to do something like this, but I got this message after being afk like 2 mins in a bot game. I went back to base to greet my baby niece who came over with my brother to visit. I came back leveled up and helped my team to victory. Honestly this leaver-buster should only be implemented into ranked games this being in bot games is really ridiculous. I don't play bot games to do serious games considering the competency of the bots to begin with, but to relax and try out new builds or characters.

EDIT #1: I logged in and see it still asking me to type I agree, but I don't therefore it will sit there. I don't need to play league and spend anymore of my money.

Exactly my thoughts right now. I couldn't word it better.

I completely agree. The ONLY times that I have left games is because of disconnects, and Rito can see that if they took the time to look. I just got the same message as you, and had to type "I Agree" like I don't understand not to leave games, because of connection issues. Not cool Rito, not cool.

i absolutely agree, RIOT treats players being subjected to their server issues the same as someone who rage quits.

Couldn't agree more. I also like your proposed changes.

I left a single ARAM match a few days ago due to a far more important real life circumstance and it's the first game I've left in over 8 months. When I logged in just now and saw this message I was pretty damn offended by the shaming accusation.

I don't mutter f riot to myself, I type it in the damn box, but cleverly! Try typing in "i agree...to have you fcked up the pssy" (remove * ofc). My leaver box accepted that and made me feel much better. :D But leaverbuster is an inherently flawed system that seems to ban people whose clients crash as opposed to intentional afkers. Riot can't do anything right, so this is unsurprising to me. If I wasn't in love with Katarina I would be playing DOTA right now.

Honestly, there are TOXIC and RAGE quitters who just ruined this for us all. There are so many players who afk in ranked cuz of the most rediculas reasons, such as team doing not as good, someone taking some cs from their lane ect. Although some of us only leave if we really have to go to do something important (such as myself), riot binds us with the troll afks and sees us as one big stat. This, I think is unfair and lazy. Just cuz some people are crybaby trolls, doesn't mean everyone is like that, but riot is treating us as if everyone is like that.

I am a rather new player and when this warning first came up i refused to type "I agree" because i would be agreeing to something beyond my control.

Voodoo Child12/7/2014, 7:18:17 AM1 votes

I got the same problem in two games in a row

after the game they sent me "Abandoning a match or being AFK results in an unfair game for your teammates, and is a punishable offense in League of Legends.

Do you agree not to leave any further games? (Type "I Agree" to continue)" i typed i agree but in fact it wasnt my fault it was a client bug that prevented me from rejoining the game now my account is fucked up ..i never left a game or got reported but now my account will be in the blacklist thank to you Riot. im really really desapointed . i never took a ban or flamed. and then because a bug im now one of the game leaver and a summoner with bad behaviors, if you dont clean my account im afraid that i will uninstal lol for real because from when i started lol i was looking to be a good player with good behaviors and looked to never get banned or reported.

(im not a native english speaker sorry for that) I havnt been afk or left game in last 1 year... 3 days ago i played with a dude who talked to me really unacceptable... i was in solo queue but another player has left the game as well because of this dude.

I told him im not going to play with you (ARAM) and stayed in the base till the end (it was around 8mins) This player was toxic as hell. I was pissed off, but after all i got this msg .... i will not play this kind of toxic players EVER and i not want to sign "I Agree" cause im not agree with this promise....

Its pissing me off more then it should.... i felt really offended .... still not signed of im not sure if i would. Something more acceptable like OP said "I Understand" would be far better.

I agree with this. It just happened to me for the first time today and I'm seriously considering leaving league entirely because of it. Yesterday was my first AFK in months and it was because my grandpa required my help with something. Life happens Riot, and a video game is not more important than life. But more than that I simply feel insulted by the passive aggressive BS that I'm receiving for leaving a single game in months. And I know you're trying to improve player behavior, but giving this insulting message out to people for a single offense is way overboard not to mention the fact that they have to type "I Agree" as if they're some child. I am very insulted by this RIOT and you may have just lost a customer who used to like what they were doing to improve player behavior.

I've only ever left one game since leaver buster was initiated and it wasnt even my choice. the client wasnt working for some reason and kept kicking me off, and it def wasnt due to my internet connection or anything else (i've got a custom built computer so I know I dont have a toaster).

I felt the leaver buster warning was certainly a bit threatening and didnt make me feel good when I had to type 'I agree' in the box. I agree that they should change the wording and should have you say 'I acknowledge' that leaving another game or more will result in a penalty. Coming right off the bat the way it does now is just a little unnerving. Otherwise I do believe the system is just fine, but just as you've said a bit 'overly aggressive'

Yes it's rather harsh. I got disconnected and when I reconnected, I finished the game. Followed by the abandonment clause. But technically, I came back to finish the game after the patch update. I don't think that warning was valid or should be valid unless the disconnect was done on purpose without intent on finishing the game. I will have to contact support to ask them if there's anything I can do to get this off my record.
