Why is it acceptable for champs that are slated for a rework to be weak for years?

This was something I couldn't really wrap my head around when it comes to balance. Leaving something intentionally weak just gives players a noobtrap to pick from until it's "fixed" and that can take north of a year, sometimes two years (or even longer).

I get that when strong said champs are "unfun", but isn't that true for any champ that's over-the-top strong? I don't care if a lee sin (not slated for rework) is too strong or a darius (slated for rework). Anything being too strong relative to the field is annoying to be against. Even those who are going to get reworks still deserve to be at least respectable picks in the interim. It's only fair to players who enjoy those edge champs and bought skins for them.

TL;DR - OP doesn't like that champions who are fundamentally broken get gutted until they eventually get a rework.

That said, Poppy has been widely considered 'Underpowered' for years and Maknoon embarrassed a whole heap of Challenger Tier players with her the other day in the NA Expansion Tournament.

I would say anivia is pretty healthy. Clear exploitable weaknesses (low Ms, high mana costs, early game) Strengths (late game, high damage, cc and of course eggnivia[weakness and strength for eggnivia])

Better question: Why are some champs with kits that are 'too toxic to be allowed to be strong' not slated for reworks? Teemo

Riven has needed a rework since day one. Can Basically kill any top champion at level 6 instantly and a shield that makes her basically into a tank shielding her for half her half bar every 5 second....

Whenever i read threads including "rework" word I instantly think of Evelynn.

This has been an ongoing problem that they didn't properly address for years. The issue is that they should have redirected more effort to this and done it earlier. The two champions a month after the 70-80 mark was a mistake, they should have throttled champion release to 1 a month years ago, and focused on reworking and remaking existing champions concurrently.

The effort they are giving now is exactly what they should have been doing two years ago, now they are just really behind and flooded with champions which makes it too hard to maintain.

The other problem is that they have some unhealthy agendas that prioritize Esports over healthy gameplay. Esports is an insignificant fraction of the player base, making changes based on how 0.001% of the players experience the game is flawed. On the opposite side of the spectrum though is the newb catering changes which are designed to satisfy the bulk of unskilled players so they can draw in New players.

That is a problem because plenty of healthy champions are branded toxic just because players who don't even know how to play are unsatisfied... These nerfs account for most of the ez mode champions which were nerfed into oblivion even though they were balanced. They need to stop that nonsense honestly. The game needs more modes and methods of play outside of the regular competition, bots make a good alternative for bad players, but like many strategy games, there should be a suite of single player content, not just to offer some content variety, but also to present new players with a battery of challenges to train themselves and qualify their abilities.

Now more than ever, there are entirely too many champions for new players to learn, let alone try. A good single player experience could be designed to let players experience dozens of champions in concert and learn how to operate tactics from unit control, skill use, opponent negotiation and so on. Without that, they will have this broken gap between the competitive balance of the game, and entry level expectation for new players. Balance decisions can not be made for uneducated players...

would you rather they be oppressively overpowered for years instead?

they're slated for reworks because they have toxic or binary kits that can't be balanced.
