Archangel/Tear is Bad Design

This is a mage main calling the item unbalanced.

It promotes unhealthy gameplay. At 3200 as a first item, its just too damn powerful and way unhealthier than the old Morello. You end up with 20% CDR, a good chunk of AP, and an extra Barrier to boot. However, the worst part is the Tear.

With just a single Tear, you get to wave clear with nearly INFINITE mana.

I played Viktor, Ziggs, Lux... its the SAME strategy. As soon as you get a SINGLE tear

BYE BYE STRATEGY

You get to sit mid and just wave clear/perma push endlessly at absolutely NO COSTS. I can only imagine this is even more OP on someone like Annivia or Xerath.

There is absolutely NO COUNTERPLAY besides the other Mid also building a Tear and then having both of you mindlessly hitting waves and looking for other places on the map to Roam.

ITS BORING, STUPID, and UNHEALTHY.

I play Mid so we can have exciting 1 vs 1s... not so that we pick a "blue" mage (or else get out-shoved) and then wait for the 1-2 item spike. The only counterplay to this Blue play style is to defeat the Blue player's team (or go Blue yourself and hope your team does better). That's not good active design/playstyle.

How is someone like Zed, Fizz, Kat etc supposed to COMPETE against all of this Blue stuff being spammed? Its literal FREE wave clear and on champs like Ziggs, Xerath, Vik etc there's just no counter. Without minions, you can't take Mid nor mount a sustained assault.

I think Tear needs to go... otherwise its going to be a Mid Lane Tear meta. And its boring.

I mean, how are you supposed to balance mages when they go up against resourceless champs? Yasuo

Vladimir and Annie can already absolutely destroy him

What's everybody else supposed to do?

You can beat/stall him out with other options too.

Viktor and Ziggs can beat him if they keep kiting etc

I played Vik against Yasuo many times. In fact, Yasuo is a bit of "mid lane bar" to me. I refuse to play anything there long term unless I can play the champ to a degree that it can kick that Samurai.

Also, he's a melee champion in team fights and that limits his positional options.

Counterpicking isn't counterplay.

the counterplay is to kite him constantly... using ranged autos to pop his passive shield very often. Mind-gaming his wind wall... and only going close to him when it makes sense to.

You know his damage output at any time and where he can/can't move to if you've tried playing him yourself. If you factor in the tornado, the windfall, and the fact that he can get in your face at certain points... you should be able to outplay.

Otherwise, why isn't Yasuo LCS top tier pick?

The difference between item 3802 and item 3070 was that with the former, you at least HAD to manage your mana. With the new Tear building into such a smooth first item... you can now get it, come back, and then auto farm/perma push completely.

Yesterday I picked Ziggs and literally for a WHOLE GAME I just sat back and Q-ed the minions as soon as I got a single Tear. Out-scaled everyone and defeated everyone... their only counterplay was to also build a Tear and do the same against me (would have lost anyways because my team won the coin flip). It was a bit unfair.

How would u change tear?

Mages needs something that gives them mana, without letting them spam too much. But what against resourceless champs that once max cdr spams without pain?

WitchQueen Annie2 votes

the problem is that Tear DOES allow many mages to spam it without thinking at all.

I tried it yesterday, and on a champion like Ziggs... its literally "Your Q is now completely free to cast."

Before the Arch rework there was no point for a mage to build Tear since it would gimp their build path and they had to settle for a Lost Chapter (which did require thoughtful use of mana). But now with a simple quick 750 back... you can force a stalemate nearly 100% of the time while simply waiting to scale. It just seems uninteractive.

Increase cost of Tear by 300 gold?

New Manaflow Band also compounds the problem if you ask me. +250 max mana and 1% missing mana regen per 5, pretty much twice as good as old Manaflow Band. Sure you can't just spam spells on lvl up anymore esp high cost spells but it's essentially blue buff at max stacks. And Presence of Mind now gives 20% max mana on champ takedown. Archangels just gives too much mana

Pretty sure they said they're going to be changing the build path next patch.

Play top lane and come back to me about farm lanes.

Tear is fine. Its takes time to get going and you have less damage early so going for trades usually dont end in your favor and you can roam since you wont be getting kills cause they are farming it out and playing safe.

Top is honestly even worse. I can go 2-0 there and still feel like I have no impact on the game at all besides MAYBE taking Tier 2 tower.
