An assassin, or an AP Bruiser. He can't be an AP Bruiser Assassin. Seriously, having this dude jump into your backline, assassinating your carries while being tanky af is NOT fun. Why do you design champs like this. If he can get instagibbed as fast as he instagibs other people, it'd be fine.
Kassadin is fine. He's a late game champ with very weak early game. Of course he's going to seem unkillable late game, because he'll kill you faster. That's his trade-off for his rather abysmal early game. No good roam potential until lvl 6, and until lvl 11 or even lvl 16, his ult cd is long enough that his engage is high risk.
Besides, he has a few champs that counter him hard, like Talon, Zed, and Yasuo. Or in teamfights, people like Camille or Mordekaiser who trap him in an enclosed space.
