Why was this taken out of the game? I remember you could've picked a mastery that increased the range of your warding ability. Is this now on an item? I see the indication for the bigger range still in the game, but I haven't noticed if it's still possible to do.
I think that was removed and Farsight was added in it's place.
I will generally get Farsight when my team is struggling and warding becomes dangerous.
That "indication" of a bigger range is for when you first place a ward. They have a larger view radius for a second or so before shrinking back down to their default ward vision. Other than that TinyKitten above is correct in that it was replaced with Farsight Alteration

Meh, I'd prefer shorter cd wards honestly. Top lane is such a crap fiesta because if the jungler decides you are gonna a bad game and you are red side, you just don't get to play because of the extra impossible to cover gank path
