Question About Sol (specifically a mecanic tied to his q.)

I been hearing about Sol getting a partial rework because of his high skill-floor.

that being said, I have an issue in logic when it comes to Sol's Q

In particular, the cooldown mechanic between activation and manual detonation.

Now before I go any further about this, this is my logic on the subject, and I am sure there is a great explanation, I am sure this is something they have tested and found unhealthy for the game in a way that was too extreme to justify it being on Sol. that being said, here is my logic on the matter, and I wish to know Riot's logic on it.

the main thing that bothers me about Sol is his lack of anything in his kit to get melee champions at "Hugging" distance off him except his ult. (there ARE ways around this, mainly in the form of items or summoners spells. He is viable, just hard to play.)

Logically to me, a simple way to fix this would be removing the detonation timer on his Q so it is possible to detonate it directly on himself, allowing him to escape/re-position as necessary.

the reason I bring this up is the fact that Anivia Ms. Blue screen (Anivia) Actually has the ability to do that on her Q.

that is where I stand in this, its one of those things I AM SURE there is reason for and that's why I am making this post. so PLEASE be kind, don't rip me apart if this has been part of some Q and A in the past just quote or link me to the post because I didn't want to wade through a thousand+ Sol threads just to find the one I am looking for.

thank you for your time.

His weakness is supposed to be champs that get in close. If his skills worked on champs that got in close then that would not be a weakness for him and it would be difficult to identify another.

Currently he has decent burst, great damage over time, great cc, great roaming, and good farming. He needs a clear defined weakness to keep him from annihilating everything in his path.

At least that is my take on it.
