So Riven
I hear so much from this board about Riven having:
No counters No counter play No weaknesses
_The usual QQ stuff. One thing I enjoy doing is when I have decided a champion is bullshit I go and buy them, play them and really learn how the champion ticks. I decided to buy riven a few months ago and although I do not really play anymore I played her every chance I got I played her and I found one thing:
She is hard as fuck. Like seriously, to play at the normal level of not really thinking about your ability sequence and just make sure to auto between every ability is super easy. But to take that champion to a level that say Box Box does takes a lot of practice.
But I didn't realize this from first playing her. I was literally shitting on everyone, and this had nothing to do with her being OP. She just happens to capitalize on some of the very things that make people bad. For example:
Her early game is SUPER strong. I'm not sure if it is due to general incompetance or the idea that champions do not start off strong, but damn, people will literally just sit there in their minions while you unload on them, it's as if they just AFK after clicking on a minion and assume the other champion wont do anything. Like HELL NO she is after your booty and she gets it most of the time.
People do not understand how zoning works. Riven is SUPERB at zoning. SO the short definition of zoning is putting the enemy into a position where they lose something no matter what they do. Examples include playing a useless champion and blowing your flash after she tried to rape you at level 2. If she is smart and is ZONING you, you are either forced out of XP range until your wave pushes into your tower OR you try to farm and die because you're an idiot. Again, not something specific to Riven, you can do this with ANY CHAMPION.
Her spell rotations really do matter. Sure she is resourceless but sometimes people do use abilities for absolutely no reason, for example randomly casting her Q while she is waiting for minions to last hit ( I see that a lot ) Or spamming all her abilities to push you into tower, both things provide ample time to trade with her without fear of dying. Try that.
Every time I lose against someone as Riven it's because they actually understand these things, they actually THINK and PREDICT what she will do, which quite frankly is really easy when you actually learn her power curves.
Also, people Rarely actually think about what champions they play against Riven. In ranked I first pick her every now and again and laugh when the enemy team picks champions like Nasus If you pick a champion who sucks early game odds are you will get raped. This isn't even something specific to Riven, sure her kit is great for cheesing people but I can give you a list of at least 30 champions this is easy to do with. People need to actively anticipate what the enemy will do and make decisions based on that, playing reactively against riven will get you raped.
Oh and the common thing I hear:
" She can just kill me under turret how am I supposed to farm? "
If you have put yourself in the position that you are FULL HEALTH FULL MANA and cannot farm under tower without her killing you, you need to leave to a different lane and tell your team that. Sometimes it's better to recall and lose your tower or even go to different lane than continue to feed.
TL;DR Losing to Riven is less about her as a champion and more about lack of knowledge in key concepts of the game. People need to learn these things rather than blaming it on a single champion, because in reality any champion can do the things Riven does if you are that stupid.
