Do People not like to play tanks anymore??

SpongebobIsLife··14 votes·4,556 views

Literally all of my games have been graves, kha, or lee jung, and riven, fiora, and the occasional rumble. Do people not realize they are making the games harder on themselves??

Like, what happened to the Zac's, the rammi (rammus plural?), and the amumus? I just don't get it.

Iv done the "I should take one for the team and be a tank" thing. IT SUX! Majority of the time my teammates would constantly not use me. They would go off farming on their own without warding to die, being in front of me when defending an objective, flat out engaging and chasing when they shouldn't. When I have to sacrifice myself to save their asses I fall behind and cant tank anymore because they are taking all the farm in an instant where it takes a tank like 5 seconds. When a fight finally breaks out i get ignored by the enemy team as they all sprint past me and kill the squishies because im locked down by cc. i try to direct the team with pings but no one listens, whats funny is that when they do follow me none of them want to split push when we need to and we end up in a staring contest.

The game is so full of careless and ignorant players that there is no point in playing a role that requires team work in order to be effective and fun. Same goes for Support.

Great summary and true story of every TANKY bruiser or tank top and most supports. The worst part is when team acknowledges you make the best shotcall, but claims they can't do something simple that you ask because they are not diamond/plat, then they go do some obviously stupid play instead.

Tanks are useless. If you take a tank top lane, you get camped and shit on. If you take a tank in the jungle, your clear is slow and you lose. People don't know how to work as a team with a tank, therefore, take a marksman/assassin top and solo carry.

SpongebobIsLife7 votes

Tanks are always useful, even when they are behind. i've lost so many games because I had a full squish time and we struggled to end it against a team that did have a front line, as it's harder to close games out with a squishy team since a lot more coordination is required, and that's very hard to achieve with no voice comms as well being in a somewhat low elo (low plat).

Tanks are the most broken and braindead easy role in the game when I play a tank and faceroll I literally do nothing special except know I can't be punished for mistakes you have to make A LOT of mistakes to actually get punished on a tank, no other role can you just walk upto 5 people and chunk them out for stupid portions of their health then walk away or just tower dive knowing you're most likely not gonna die just because you're a tank, the game is much easier when you have a tank.

woodvsmurph1 votes

It is easier if your team went even or won early game. If your team fed and is trash, tanks are literally useless. You just die slower - tanking 4 fed enemies - while your 4 teammates fail to kill the one person you are not tanking and peeling.

I usually tank or bruiser...but I've been leaning towards bruiser as of late, due to a combination of damage creep, and I hate having to rely on the follow up for something to get done. I can make the perfect initiation, tank the entire enemy team for 7 seconds, but no follow up=I end up dead, or they get away.

woodvsmurph1 votes

Cuz the adc's are all jhin and varus who are too chicken to auto anything - just spam arrows or ult; or they are mf who ults and then stands around not doing much. Crit adc's and auto-focused adc's would at least be doing something and not be a giant coward like people are today. The good ones would be attacking constantly. They'd be close enough to deal good damage, but not so close they would insta-die, and they knew when to ignore a frontline enemy with no damage to finish off a low hp carry you cc'd and when to just hit the frontline. Now it is extremely rare to have 2 intelligent people playing adc in the same game.

Tanks are out of the meta.

Real tanks have not enough damage, and armour penetration is way too strong. If you build only one or two armour ítems, the tipical lethality build deals real damage to you. XD

woodvsmurph2 votes

Yeah I've been saying for awhile that there's too much armor pen in the game. Lethality got nerfed some thank goodness, but ldr or mortal reminder negates basically half the armor a tank buys - and now you get that just from last whisper for less than 2k gold. Then add in one enemy building black cleaver to drop 30% of total armor on a target for his/her WHOLE TEAM. I think cleaver is fine, but ldr/mortal reminder need some revisiting - either less armor pen or a weaker bonus effect (giant killer mostly). Because other than b.f. sword items which give about 70-75 ad, you are not making any raw ad sacrifices to get tons of armor pen by buying lethality and last whisper items over other ad items. And the armor pen you get more than negates any loss of 15-25 raw ad.

Tanks have probably the smallest player base. They usually are in normal modes and normally play to have fun.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

but they have always boasted the highest win rates throughout the seasons,

Sad Tyrant1 votes

what, lower than supports?

Sexualsaurus3 votes

I wanna carry, no one else is gonna carry me. I've learned that the hard way in soloque and I love playing sejuani, she is one of favourite tanks. But playing her means Ive got to rely on my team more which really sucks if they aren't good.

Ahristocats3 votes

because they suck

all of them except 2 or 3 tanks

Moetaro3 votes

Were tanks forced to be mandatory, like supports, autofill would be pushing people into tanks instead of supports.

I get a frontline once in a blue moon. Noone wants to play tanks, they just straight prefer to lose rather than playing a tank.

woodvsmurph2 votes

see xHeartless or my posts. This is why people don't play tanks. Because even if YOU do what you should when you have a tank engage for your team, over half the people playing solo queue just screw the hell out of their tanks and tanky bruisers and play overly selfish. Why would someone play tank and regularly die when their teammates do nothing to capitalize on their sacrifice? Too many mid, sup, adc, jungle who won't take risk of potentially dying in order to get their TEAM a win. So why should the toplaner play a tanky bruiser or tank and do that for an ungrateful team who just abuses them and treats them like they have no feelings too? Perhaps the tank/bruiser would like to kill someone and not die every fight?

Ralanr3 votes

People find the role of the tank boring and not worth it because of their lack of carry potential.

But yeah, it's totally a tank meta adc mains. You aren't full of shit there.

Boop Daddy 3 votes

Been on a ww/galio bender. Let me tell you. When I'm the only tank potential on the team, it really REALLy sucks for me. Feels like no matter how many resistances or health I build I just can't do my job, I die and my team sorta sits back and hovers while I absorb damage. Feels bad man. Feels real bad.

woodvsmurph2 votes

Can't tank for cowards who are too dumb or scared to engage when you cc enemy carries. Can't kill anyone because they kill any source of damage bruisers can build without sacrificing their ability to tank damage too. All because maokai and naut had too much damage mid-game on enemy carries. And you are getting chain cc'd and focused by 4 people while team cowers in fear not even attacking. Yeah you either build the damage to 1v5 delete a target and then die cuz you have no tank stats, or you build tanky to peel for team and lack the damage to kill anyone because your team just stands around watching instead of fighting. Which is made all the worse by poke and disengage champs being the meta in many roles: jayce, jhin, varus, mf, zyra, karma -- not like any of them are going to engage and follow up on you locking down a carry. And then they wonder why you don't want to group for a "teamfight" after they leave you out to dry multiple times just watching you instead of following up on your engage.

Prodlax2 votes

People find tanks are boring, and want to carry games themselves, despite not picking a tank only makes winning harder.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

*despite them not being able to carry shit. Seriously the only reason i don't pick tanks is because you can hardly be useful below diamond4+. Noone on your team will actually deal dmg or focus a target and you end up perfectly engaging with zero follow up because your adc totally needed those two small raptors, jungler was busy chasing scuttle and your midlaner doing wolves all while the enemy sieges your midlaner turret

Hexs Fortune2 votes

In this game why play damageless wardens and vanguards when you can go tanky on juggernauts and divers and still have durability along with offensive power and some cc

SpongebobIsLife2 votes

yeah but, i don't even see the juggernauts, besides the 1 out of maybe 6 games, darius. Like, if you check my match history, on one of my teams and very few of the enemy teams, there is very little semblance of a frontline in them.

Wimbledofy2 votes

why don't you play it then? As it is currently, everyone wants to carry (it's always been like this but moreso this season) and it's easier to snowball on bruisers/assassins than tanks. Tank supports are almost nonexistent currently with all the poke lanes and tank junglers are even worse, and top laners want to be able to carry the entire game and as a tank you can't do that by yourself.

R1NGW0LF1 votes

I don't have the urge to be the carry all the time, if I can get to be a good support to get the team to snowball i'm good with just that. And I do play a support Nautilus when I do feel tanky and it works fine.

Tenant2 votes

Tanks are for courageous men, leaders with conviction.

Guess what this game's community isn't.

SirLapse2 votes

People do pick Warwick who counts as a tank when built as such. Tanks aren't really favored in the jungle since you have the highest impact on the map as a jungler, and if a lane screws up then you're likely not going to have enough items/damage to handle it. There's also the issue of team comps not necessarily scaling well into the game, so the meta has shifted in favor of more damage across the board.

Zac is still in a good spot, but I don't own him and a lot of other people don't sadly. Way too expensive. RekSai beaten by damage. Shyvana is built with damage even though she scales well as a tank. DrMundo isn't doing too badly in the jungle but he's mostly only relevant when he's "freelo" status, aka tank items are too strong. Nunu clears too slow. Nautilus clears too slow and isn't using his damage/CC at its strongest point in the game, which is early on. Amumu has low sustain clears without a decent leash and honestly is a lot harder to use than before. He's not bad but not amazing. Still can win games off of one good ulti. Sejuani is a garbage champion. She's really good with her ultimate but if you're fighting a meta jungler, they can find you and kill you in your own jungle. It's rather unfortunate. Udyr is unpopular right now. I feel like he's meta only when Trick has found an amazingly broken build of some sort. Skarner is unpopular as well. He's not bad either but if you don't know how to use him, you will lose your team the game. Trundle isn't picked probably because his MP sustain is garbage even with blue. He's not bad at all, but he's mostly known for top lane anti-meta. Haven't seen dedicated Trundle mains in my elo. Olaf still works and still wins. Ivern practically known for stomping games because getting your team fed is how to win solo queue. Garbage if your team is not good with him. Gragas is hit and miss. Too hard to use right now. Hecarim I wonder if most people realize that Hecarim is a tank. Volibear gets kited too easily. XinZhao is the same as Warwick but more damage built. He terrorizes low elo. Rammus counter pick.

That's literally everyone in the jungle that can be built primarily tanky. Hecarim is favored because he still does damage, Vi is still favored for the same reason. They have too many problems right now with how they interact on solo queue and if laners fail their lane. About half of these champions need buffs or the meta needs to shift via nerfs for them to see play. It's not that they're boring, it's that they're not FoTM. Same for top lane outside of usual juggernaut picks.

Aptest2 votes

what happened is that people like you chose to play other things.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

huh

Lord Galvatron2 votes

It's because people in this meta are impatient af. Everyone wants to immediately do damage and try to one-shot as many as people as possible before they get one-shotted. That's why playing tanks/briusers is so free in low elo. People don't know what to do after they try to burst you and it you still have 50%+ HP afterward.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Riot has mentioned a few times in the past seasons that they hate tanks being relevant, and it shows by items changes over the years. Bruisers are often more effective, thanks to having their own significant damage to kill with; while tanks pretty much have to require setting up their own combo, or relying on their team to follow up for a kill. Yet most players out there just see tanks as a meatshield, and often like supports, get next to no respect. Yes a mixed team should be better, but due to more common anti-tank powers floating around in recent years, pretty much makes them null. With no late game powerhouse items, and the game being decided by early snowballing damage, tanks never get to have their power-spike either. Hopefully the upcoming class update improves that, unlike the mage & assassin reworks.

woodvsmurph2 votes

If you play a tank top, you lose 1v1 pretty much every time - poppy had a chance to OUTPLAY and people whined about it until she was nerfed to oblivion. No one in solo queue in their right mind is going to play a tank unless the enemy top already locked in a tank - meaning they can safely lock a tank without fearing being starved of cs or camped and killed every 2 min. And you never get a gank because team is basically like "f you, you're a tank and shouldn't care about enemy's damage" "no kill pressure, not ganking", "need to gank for feeding bot/mid - can't help you". And who wants to play a tank in a teamfight where your teammates take 8 min to kill one diving enemy squishy and lose 2 people doing so while you are stuck tanking 4 fed enemies and can deal 0 damage because adc's whine whenever they can't 4 shot a tank early/mid game and the tank can actually deal meaningful damage to them - till Riot listens to idiot adc's and nerfs any damage out of a tank's kit. Look at pro play and you see naut vs maokai and the winner is the one who's team can delete the enemy tank faster while the tank basically throws out cc and waits to die to the enemy team. Not glamorous or fun.

I'm upvoting this solely because you said "rammi" for Rammus plural.

That aside, most games do not have a huge audience of tank players. Do you enjoy playing a role that is strictly used as a meatshield, while others get the kills and seemingly "make the plays?" Probably not. Granted, it is very necessary to have a frontline if you're playing for the endgame; but there aren'y many endgames with the current meta of mages and assassins.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

yes, if my team has no frontline, and im jungling or top, im playing a tank.

Laxfan521 votes

I usually play mid and play some sort of mage but if i get autofilled top/jg/sup then i will play a tank like amumu for jg malph for top and taric for sup. I personally don't find them that fun because i hate getting kited but i still play them if i get autofilled.

Mighty Mortein1 votes

I usually try to play the tank in support if the top or jungle don't play one. I like to have at least one that peels for the carries.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

i love playing malphite recently.

with everyone playing teams entirely full of lethality stacking carries and ad assassins, its really fun to just roll into a skirmish with sunfire cape, tabi, thornmail by midgame and watch these idiots kill themselves.

sobi9991 votes

well past few games i come across malphites and nauts and alistars everywhere and they are so dominant. The non stop CC ftt

Sagan Forever1 votes

Rammus individually was gutted. Look at his win rate which China is around 50%, but remember that this is a lethality meta which an anti ad champion should be thriving in :(. I personally play tanks, I guess my biggest beef is how hard you get out scales in the late game. When you are carrying your team, then the enemy buys last whisper suddenly being fed no longer matters.

Mira Arya Enthe1 votes

Tanks are often boring to play. Low skill cap. Low investment champions. This is a videogame. No matter how easy it makes winning nobody wants to play as an unskilled, underappreciated, slave of their team. Tank and support will never be as popular as assassin or mage. With ADC and fighters hovering in the middle. Everyone would rather whine they need a tank than play one. Proof? Your post. You could play tanks like anybody else.
