Did something change massively in the past few patches or is this another 'lol riot' moment? Or did riot just forget there are melee champions not named irelia?

Nah, Wukong is another one you don't want to bring a marksman to lane against. Potentially also Darius if you play him correctly; he'll have a rough start, but he will catch up around level 10 or so. I typically don't manage to do better than go even with Olaf and Riven, and I've never even bothered to try going against a Nasus.
