At this point, i'm convinced Riot doesn't care about melee champs anymore.

You become underleveled, underfarmed, forced to build tanky to negate poke damage, lose first tower, Have no damage because you were forced to build tanky, way more risk than ranged champs in teamfight. Most dashes negate your engage, first one to be aimed.

Everytime i watch Worlds/Lcs High streamers, Melee champs in the top lane are just eaten alive.

Look at the top lane OP picks recently

Gnar Rumble Jayce Gangplank

So what. Shen was meta for 1 week and gets nerfed look what happens. You know whats funny, there was a game where shen went bot and picked up a double.

2-0 shen vs 0-1 rumble.

Lvl 6 happens, Rumble solos him in mere seconds. Why? Because ranged harass is too much by the time you finally get to fight you're way too poked down.

Yeah this post is about it in the top lane, but either way its fuckin sad now.

its been a melee dominated meta for most of the year dude let these guys have their chance its barely been a month also jayce 1/2 melee, gnar is 1/2 melee, rumble IS melee, and so is GP.

Your problem isnt Melee vs Range really its Damage vs Tank

rumble is defintely melee and until GP has enough damage on his barrels his also melee

GP is categorized as a Fighter - Melee. As is Rumble. They may have some ranged abilities, but they are predominately melee.

Jayce and Gnar are melee hybrids, but they are still considered melee.

And gnar is considered Fighter (melee)

But hes ranged half the time

Your argument is pretty invalid.

Desolas Arterius1 votes

It's not invalid. As I said Gnar is categorized as a melee though he is more of a hybrid. When he's in Mega he is strictly Melee, when he is in Mini he is strictly Ranged (though very short AA range compared to most ranged). It's no different than Elise, Nid, and Jayce. They have Ranged and Melee forms.

Also, being Fighter doesn't mean strictly melee. Being a fighter means you have some defensive and some offensive abilities. They give up utility to be more damage focused, but they give up burst damage to be tankier.

Swain is a Mage/Fighter, but he's ranged isn't he? :P

I'm just going off of technicalities. I'm not saying Gnar/GP/Jayce/Rumble aren't a problem. I'm just saying they're categorized as melee fighters.

Saying GP and Rumble are melee is pretty ignorant Considering GP is picked for his barrels and ult ( ranged )

And Rumble is picked for his ult (ranged ) and ranged harass

Just because a champion has melee autos doesnt make them melee when they share similaritys to caster mages.

Rumble is classified also as a mage yet im not bringing that up because its pretty obsolete to bring up class descriptions made up years ago.

Desolas Arterius1 votes

Melee and Ranged are categorized based on their Auto Attack ranged, not on their abilities.

Melee is considered Melee when it falls between 125 to 250 unit range. Gnar sits at 175, though it can increase due to his Range Modifier in his passive while in Mini form. But he is still considered melee because of his base Auto Attack range.

This is very specific and technical. Just because they have a spell that has more range than their autos does not automatically make them ranged. Range is based on the "units" it takes their AA to reach the enemy's hitbox.

They may have abilities with greater range outside of their AA range, but that does not automatically make them a Ranged champion if their AA is below 250 units.

This is why specific ranged items exist like Runaan's and Hydra. Caitlyn can't even build a Hydra because her range exceeds what is classified as "Melee". It's also why certain item effects are reduced depending on the Champion's range.

Melee and Ranged are categorized based on their Auto Attack ranged, not on their abilities.

You could take ahri and make her auto have a 150 range. She would still be a ranged champion. Auto attack classifying champs as ranged or melee just because a riot says so, doesnt mean its true. (See Dy.q)

Gnar is ranged for most of the game. So hes a ranged champ. Period.

And just because their autos are melee distance doesnt make them melee..??????????????????

Holy fuckin biased

You use that word, but I don't think you know what that word means.

Also, you're either trolling or ignoring the facts.

At this point I think he is a troll. There is no way someone could seriously think that lol

That, or just willfully ignorant.

''Just because a champ has a skill that exceeds their auto doesnt make them ranged''

Ok and the same thing can be side the other way around.

Just because a champ has an auto that is lower than their skills doesnt make them melee

You are straight up biased. i Took your argument and gave another example that validated my point.

Carry on

Not only was that not my argument, but calling literal coded facts biased is... yeah...

I guess by your definition like 90% of the champ pool is ranged. Nasus autos, q and ult are melee range, but his W and E are ranged, guess he's a ranged champ then? An extreme example, but it's basically what you're trying to pull.

Champions are defined melee or ranged by the range of their autos. This is how it's coded, this is how the game works. You can argue GP is ranged due to Q E and R, but at the end of the day, he's melee. That is how he's coded, that is how he works.

I'm not gonna bother from here since you don't seem to listen, and I probably posted in a troll thread, but eh I'm bored and got a few hours to kill.

They are melees who never melee unless absolutely necessary. Kinda takes away the point of being melee, doesn't it?

Commit Sudoku1 votes

either way this is how league goes metas change just adapt dude its not gonna be this way forever it will change again and you will adapt again and so on and so forth it really isnt worth complaining about a change when every 2 weeks something changes bringing us closer to another meta shift

Nah people going to try to justify it for no reason.

''GP is melee''

Why.. Because he has a passive that makes his autos burn..?

To be technical, his parrrley is considered "melee" even though it's a range attack, just like his Barrels.

His Q is a ranged attack.

Therefore its ranged.

If that was the case, it would proc runaans hurricane, and not be able to proc Ravenous Hydra.

It is indeed higher ranged than a normal melee, but it's coded as on-hit ability.

Skills dont apply runaans hurricane. It applies to autos.

Gangplanks Q is not a basic auto but is treated as one applies on hits.

Its a ranged ability.

I think rumble beat shen because shen is a defensive tank while rumble has the damage of a bruiser. Also level 6 is a pretty big powerspike for rumble, and shen doesn't really have one since his level 6 is utility.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

melee champs lose in laning but can still win games.

What did shen build when he lost to rumble by the way. I doubt shen was building for a duel

Slythion2 votes

If a champion is able to "solo shen in mere seconds" idk how being ranged has anything to do with complete 100-0 duels. Ranged is complained about because it's safer and it's harass, not because of it's burst...he contradicted himself pretty hard.

not to mention that Rumble has a combative ult while Shen has a defensive support ult that can only be used on allies. When one champion has an ult that's designed for combat and the other has one that can't be used in duels, it's pretty obvious who should win. Not to mention that even though Shen was 2/0, he was a support and most likely was at an item/gold disadvantage
