I for One, am Intrigued

I know it's an unpopular opinion, and I don't post on the boards much, but we may be a bit too quick to dismiss some of the "Juggernaut" updates. In particular, I find that with Skarner Riot is trying to add a new mechanic to his game, and maybe with tweaks and balancing, it can really be interesting and add depth to his play. Overall, even though I disagree with some of the execution, I think this is the right direction for Riot to head into.

The problem isn't the mechanics themselves, I think, but the fact that Riot is putting a LOT of stock onto them when they're mostly gimmicky and too situational to warrant slashing so much power from the champions themselves.

I mean, the Crystal Shrines, Morde's new gameplay style, Bloodrage, those CAN work, but not on their current state.

The only one I think is completely wrong is Garen. He doesn't need that stupid Villain mechanic, and it CERTAINLY doesn't warrant slashing his late-game tankiness, and already minuscule CC and sticking power. That is the one that pisses me off the most, because all that Garen needed was just the ability to reach his opponents a little more efficiently, that was it. Instead, their response to a cut was to cauterize it with a flamethrower.

I don't play much Garen, so I can't really comment on what he needs or doesn't need. However I actually totally agree that in their current state, these reworks feel weak, like overall nerfs. Some of the changes, like Judgement slowing you when you're hitting a champion, feel unnecessary, almost as if they anticipate that the villain mechanic will be powerful enough to warrant a sizable portion of Garen's power budget. If that is the case or not, we have yet to see.

On the other hand, some of the new items look like they are trying to aid in Garen, Darius, and the like. Riot seems to not want them to be super tanks, but something less utility based and much more threatening.

The problem I have with the shrines is that the location and size of the buff area will only help Skarner clear camps. Any smart team won't fight him near them. Plus, if he captures one in the enemy jungle, the enemy team will know where he is and collapse on him. Goodbye counter-junglling.
