Make Aatrox untargetable during his Q.

Absolute0Chaos··7 votes·1,822 views

I know an Aatrox rework is coming someday, but I like to propose a short term change.

Make his Q more like a teleport than just a jump.

That way, he can engage and disengage easier.

He is naturally squishy and is forced to build tank every game if he wants to survive unless he gets super ahead.

It's ironic that despite his kit is similar to be like most melee carries such as Yi, Tryn, Fiora, he can't be built like one viably.

Are Tryndamere MasterYi Fiora even seen as viable? (kinda been out of the loop for a bit, honestly don't know).

Seen Aatrox in waaaay more competative matches than I've seen the other 3 combined. Pretty much all tanky builds, but still. Most of the matches with Trynd and Yi were AP Trynd and AP Yi as well, and never seen any competitive games with Fiora. I know she's been played at least once, but still. Pretty sad showing from those 3.

Only melee ADC I think I've seen that's widely considered viable is Yasuo And I've been keeping up with LoL since Poppy's release, seen the season 1 championship live.

Actually they're viable. It's not about the viability of champions in general. It's about the viability with a build.

Tryndamere Fiora MasterYi can build full damage or nearly because they have tools to survive/ chase people Tryn has his ult + E and slow, Fiora has her ult+ fast dashes. Yi has his untargetability, his meditate.

Aatrox on the other hand has one slow dash and he's targetable during it. He also has a skillshot slow. That's not much at all, that's why he's kinda forced to build tanky. Also the fact he's mostly sustained based makes him kinda bad in teamfights. There's too much damage to be sustained through.

I think the biggest misconception low Elo people have about Aatrox is that they think he's a melee carry. Aatrox is much closer to Xin Zhao than he is to Fiora or Tryn or Yi.

Aatrox is perfectly viable. As a bruiser. Get a BotRK and then build mostly tank, and you're good. In the Jungle you can get a devourer first for those OP double procs, in the top lane you can get a BC or a Hydra if things are going well.

Making Aatrox's Q stronger will make him overpowered. There needs to be counterplay. For Xin, it's preventing him from getting his third Q proc off. For Aatrox, it's knocking him up during his Q. If his Q was a dash, the only counterplay to it would be flash.

Aatrox's Q is interrupted by every form of hard CC.

Incorrect, it's only interrupted by CC that would send Aatrox airborn. So knockups, knockbacks and pulls. These are extremely common so it's easy to be led to believe that all CC will interrupt Q.

Building BORK + tank makes him fall off late game, and he still won't be sustained enough in a teamfight. In a lot of ways, he's a cooler and eviler looking Garen late game.

Making Aatrox's Q stronger will make him overpowered...compared to what? I could think of several champs with untargetability in their non-ult kit. Yi, Fizz, etc.

Speaking of Garen, I wish Rito would make a rework of his late game not blowing as hard.

Sorry, but don't act as if you know what you're talking about. You're in Bronze Elo in your games, try to accept advice on forums rather than flat out disagreeing with them without a compelling argument.

Building BORK + tank makes him fall off late game

You're talking about this as if this is something that must absolutely be avoided. You do realise that it's absolutely okay for something to fall off late game if it does well in the early-mid game? FYI though, it's actually the other way around - as you rightly pointed out, Aatrox doesn't have many tools to protect himself in team fights with a carry build. Carry builds tend to do really well on Aatrox for the first 20 mins but then once he enters team fights he dies instantly.

With a bruiser build, he's strong early (but weaker than carry build), above average mid, and just average in the late game. Bruiser build makes sense because Aatrox has extremely high base damages.

I could think of several champs with untargetability in their non-ult kit. Yi, Fizz, etc.

Rookie mistake - considering skills in isolation.

Fizz's stats are stacked towards magic damage - he doesn't have physical damage skills beyond his Q autoattack reset. As such, his skills need to do a lot to make up for that. That includes his AP burst damage, but also he needs to be slippery to avoid damage, since he will always take longer to kill a tank than a Yi or Aatrox with the same amount of gold/kills.

Yi's only damaging ability is Q (besides his E autoattack damage and ult attack speed). So, like Yi, he needs to be slippery to make up for that.

Aatrox's Q does a lot more base damage than Yi's Q. Taking true damage vs physical damage into consideraiton, his W also does around about the same damage as Yi's E (in raw damage terms it does a lot more damage than Master Yi's E). So overall, Aatrox has the potential to do a lot more damage than Yi. If you give his Q untargetable, he'll be able to dodge too much CC and completely ruin the enemy team.

I get the feeling that anything I say won't be listened to you based on this statement alone...

I accept advice, but I don't have to agree. "Compelling argument" is only necessary if I want others to agree with me, it's not a necessity for me to not agree.

^Bit of how human interaction works.

Then it's a mistake to make Aatrox (and by extention, XinZhao ) AA based, even early game Aatrox is naturally squishy, even by squishy standards. Fighter build makes sense but it shouldn't be the only way to build champs, especially when they're AA based.

The quirk of actual fighters and tanks is that they usually have some form of utility and/or aoe CC, Aatrox only has an E, and it's an easy-to-miss skillshot (unless you're right in front of the enemy, but that's another problem...)

Rookie mistake - considering skills in isolation.

Well you weren't very clear in your previous statement as well.

Ok, make Q untargetable but lower its damage, how's that so hard to think of?

And no, his W pales compared to MasterYi 's E, if you consider their current viable builds. Which has to do with what I'm trying to have happen in this topic in a rather direct way.

Two damage items (devourer and bork) on pretty much any of these champions (aatrox, xin, yi) is all you need to be able to shred things. You build tank afterward so you can survive in fights. It isn't a mistake to make them AA based when they scale so well with so little.

Absolute0Chaos1 votes

Devourer isn't that compelling not only because it's only a patch old, but it forces you to take smite, and it forces you to take an item slot for it. Sated Devourer is quite broken (inb4nerf) but it doesn't fix the problems that champions had with their kit before just by existing.

Their greatest disadvantage is that they're melee champions already, and their opponents know it. Their kits should have some work in defending against that, especially so for melee ADCs.

Uh... yi, aatrox, and xin are all junglers. Been that way for a while now, even before sated became a thing. You can top lane with them, but they're considerably better in the jungle. Xin is a strong early pressure jungler that scales hard with devourer, yi is a farm centric jungler, and aatrox lies somewhere between the two, but got a huge buff with sated recently.

I was talking mainly about their kits themselves and the problems with it aren't fixed by Sated Devourer alone.

Aatrox has awful shitty base damages.

His Q is awful with awful AD ratio (250 + 60% with a 16-12 CD is shit).

His E is awful (215 + 60% with a 12-8 CD is shit too).

His R has no scaling thanks to the AP ratio.

The only ability he has that has excellent scaling AND base damage is his W.

This is also why rushing tank items on Aatrox is absolutely garbage. He needs at least one offensive item beforehand.

You want champions with good base damages ?

Renekton Garen Olaf

You can rush tank items on those 3 because they have enough base damages to still be a threat in midgame. You can't with Aatrox.

i dont think he needs that

but his q would trully feel beter if he couldnt be randomly stopped

as we are now his q has 2 parts ... ascending and dive

what i think would be better if a)ascending would take more of the entire cast time b)dive would take less c)dive would be unstoppable

this way aatrox still has this counterplay window where you can stop him from dashing ... but we reduce the amount of situations where his q gets interrupted by something that just randomly fles through the air he decided to travel

when we are speaking about skills like this we have j4 and vi who have cc tied to the dash itself ... meaning that whoever tries to stop them gets to be hit instead

with aatrox he often stops at a random thing that happened to be somewhere on the way and he doesnt get anything

also better pronouncing of the "ascending" and "diving" realy fits his theme of an ellegant murderer

in the end i think that this would be the best change for him ... its the one that is the most neutrall ballance wise ... as it increases both its power and its counterplay
