When can we have a %tank item.

I've been doing some math, yes I know this is a dangerous thing to do, but what if we had an item that gave no base stats, and only gave 18% bonus to all HP, Magic Resist, and Armor and Cost 2.8k gold.

The Item would become gold efficient at 3 tank items + the new item. Meaning that yes bruisers could use the item as a 4th item (but only at 100% gold efficiency). More importantly true tanks that invest into 4 tank items +the new item could use the item at 118% efficiency. The 118% gold efficiency assumes Alistar base stats with, item 3102,item 3065,item 3143,item 3068.

In pretty much the most abusive case of 4 item 3143 and Chogath's base stats it would be 126% efficient.

This does however assume that boots, runes and masteries are negligible, all of these however do have the potential to increase the items efficiency. With Full MR and AR runes or with full hp/level runes, it increases the items efficiency by 12%.

Edit: Just to note, on LeeSin with item 3102,item 3065,item 3143,item 3068, it is 1.12% efficient. With item 3102,item 3065,item 3143, it is 98.9% efficient. With item 3065,item 3143 it is 84% efficient.

Just remember it also takes up an item slot, so 4 items+ this item + boots would make a full build.

make it cost ~800gold so that it is on a similar level of efficiency as most offensive percent items.

Ha, ha, I'd love to see it for 800 gold, but honestly the price I have set makes it fairly on par with other items gold efficiency. 3k gold and 20% increase has the same efficiency, along with 2.4k gold and 16% increase. The problem with the 20% increase is because of the item's slot efficiency. It gives "too many stats" kind of like triforce. 16% stats however, give too little slot efficiency for what should be the legendary tank class item.

how are you going to build into it if it offers no base stats?

Make two or three new items. They could each respectively give 10% increased hp, MR, and Armor stats.

More whimsically it could also build out of item 1028 item 1029 anditem 1033 + gold, and have the base stats disappear when upgraded, in exchange for the %stats.
