Can we do something about armor penetration?

item 3071 item 3036 removes 62% of your bonus armor.. is there even any point in building armor anymore? MIght as well just build a fucking item 3083, it'd make me tankier >.>

or maybe an item 3742 item 3143 item 3068 armor items that have hp with it. and if by lvl 18 if you are playing a champ that stacks armor you should have a base armor around 100 so if you have 300 armor with bouns armor meaing +200 bonus armor after the 62% reduction you are left with 176 armor 100 base and 38% bonus armor which is 76 (being if you had 200 bonus armor) and you are worried about needing that much armor items that have debuffs with armor would be ideal like item 3143 item 3047 which will reduce the amount of physical damage you take in addition to the armor and hp. item 3143 giving 10% damage reduction from crits and lowering attack speed by 15% from auto attacks and item 3047 blocks 12% damage from basic attacks. thats alot of damage reduction passive plus the armor plus the hp.

I ALWAYS buy tabi or omen if I'm stacking armor. No point in buying 6 armored up items. You lose your offense doing that. I grab things like frozen mallet and liandrys and sometimes I slap nashoors on just so I can get the 50% attack speed and then something like hydra or black clever. Tanking isn't as simple as "buy armor magic resist and hp" you can do some pretty crazy stuff with yoomuus blade of the ruined king and wits end up top if you buy things like titanic hydra and deaths dance.

exactly. i like to play tanky cc champs i love Maokai i understand the minor nerfs he got with increased cd on his Q and his passive reduction but i love the champ. i spammed him in every game in every role but adc.

a build i fell in love with on mao is item 3001 item 3025 item 3151 item 3027 item 3068 with whatever boots i might need item 3047 or item 3111 and i run attack speed reds, hp per lvl seals. flat armor quints and mr per lvl blues. which end game gives me about 3600hp over 200 armor over 150 mr 30% cd aoe damage , auto attack amplifier after casting any ability, aoe slow, magic pen, mr reduction mana, sooo just something i like. i also run it on malphite if can get away with it. of not that rune page a flat magic pen, ap quints , armor and mr per lvl yellows and blues. 12-0-18 with either runes

I have only 2 rune pages and I play a LOT of champs so I have generic rune builds that are overly simplified. Magic penetration and ability power and then physical damage and armor penetration. Gives me roughly 36 AP at the start and 8 flat magic penetration with an added 3.3 flat or 7% penetration from masteries. My physical build grants about... 15 damage and 9 penetration respectively. My champ kits and masteries are the main focus for deciding my runes and items. If you haven't taken soraka top you should. It's hilarious because of how abyssal zhonya rylias tabi frozen heart thornmail and pretty much anything you can think of turns her into a crowd controlling unstoppable healer. Just don't buy a lot of hp items. She doesn't need them. Just cool down movement speed and the proper amount of counter healing items.

*edit one important thing to mention though is stay away from true damage enemies

i agree with this, i build 300 to 400 amor and get melted by speed and 10% armor pen ffs.

Unless I understood you incorrectly, using both of those items is actually counterproductive. Black Cleaver's armor shred goes before all percentage armor penetration. This wouldn't be a problem if weren't for the fact that Lord Dominik's Regards only penetrates bonus armor. Therefore, using both items together is counterproductive as Black Cleaver makes LDR's armor penetration LESS efficient.

Only if you look at it from an 'armor reduced' perspective.

If you calculate relative % damage increase, you aren't actually losing much by buying them together. The only situations where it would be truly counterproductive is if the Black Cleaver caused you to have more HP than the champions on the other team, or where Black Cleaver would reduce their bonus armor to 0 or less.

In the case of BC reducing their bonus armor to 0 or less, LDR is still a good buy if you can use its passive vs the majority of the enemy team.

Go ahead and try the all health build. You'll wise up pretty quick.

Armor and magic resist currently aren't worth building over 150. Banshees veil and thornmail cover both adequately. Afterwards buy an hp item and then damage and mobility

Meanwhile every actual tank in professional play has a heavy focus on HP.
