So.. I just played aram with poppy vs xin, skarner, jinx, graves, jhin... I had 400 armor and 4K hp.. and I was regularly dying in 2 seconds.. what the fuck. Why should I even build tanky when you cant survive anything even with so extreme amount of armor.

Something tells me two armor items do not add up to 400 armor.
Why are you acting like Aram balance is proof of anything?
the purpose of a tank is to soak damage and cc people
it is not to be immortal while facetanking five people and the fountain laser
Tanks are fine in aram. But ya kinda need some poke going the other way also. If they are not already poked out they feel brave when you engage and just focus, instead of one or two backing off.
Also, your job as tank isn't to survive fights. It's to tank and take turret when you do after a won teamfight.
2 seconds is a very long time and that's with them focusing you.
How they lived long enough that they could afford to do so is also the answer to your question sortof
