The feedback on Viktor appears overwhelmingly negative. If that's the case...

Is there any chance Riot won't push them, or at least the parts we all hate (particularly E aftershock delay and ult tick rate)?

I mean, I know he's not muh mechanix Riven or Lee Sin, but it'd really show that Riot listens (even though they really do from time to time).

Please guys, don't ruin Viktor.

Ricklessabandon had some katarina changes many patches ago that ended up getting completely pulled. Also, riot put up these changes ASAP to be able to iterate over them, hence why other mages like Cass are getting changes to the original proposals. It's possible, so keep voicing your opinions (in a civilized manner, preferably)

There was also the miniriven rework where she had an alternate resource bar; That, too, got pulled

Mainly because it made her completely broken in hands of people who can play her (animation cancel).

Goodness, Edge/Sharpness (don't remember the name) Riven on the PBE was insanely strong. Never want to see that again.

When it comes to things like this Riot is usually pretty open to community feedback. Kat changes, Riven changes, and a few others come to mind. I'm pretty confident that with the feedback we've been giving Riot will look for another way to solve Viktor's problems.

Viktor: Why do I need that much delay and damage taken from my abilities!? Veigar: compensation! Viktor: What? Kassadin: He's still hold a grudge for the 'buffs' they gave him a while ago. Viktor: Isn't that a little petty after so long? Veigar: (¬_¬).... I hope those changes go through.

There is a chance some of the changes won't make it from the PBE to Live. That's one of the reasons they are on the PBE first.

So we still have hope!

Yep, and not everything makes it past the PBE.

No one in their right mind would say the PBE stops all nonsense, but it does manage to stop some. That is why we still have hope.

Riven's Edge mechanic, scaling ult range from 4000 - 6000 on twisted fate's ult. Those were on PBE but I believe got pulled.

Not everything makes it through. It's the concept and how it works that they want to see, not if the raw numbers are right or wrong. Xin having AD scaling on his heal is a good idea (unpopular opinion?) since even as a squishy full AD you were healing at most 100 per 3 hits (you could outheal that with lifesteal easily) and rengar used to be able to murder turrets on release.

Yes, some things should have had more testing, but in general the live servers are better at testing these things.

Just like they listened to us about solo queue?

Generally speaking, barring some very rare cases, once something hits the PBE (and officially hits the PBE, not one of those "accidental updates" that happen) it's going to be hitting Live soon afterwards. The outcry against Morde didn't do any good, Xin's unneeded buff went through, and these are just the most recent examples.

What will happen is that this version of Viktor will hit live, they'll get a bunch of "high profile" players to tell them it's awful, then they'll sit down with a post in Announcements that will say something to the effect of "We really think this is the way to go with Viktor, so we're going to do some number tweaks since we weren't quite on the mark before". Once that proves ineffective, he's going to sit on the "up for a rework" shelf which pretty much locks him into where he's at.

The whole point is to force Viktor into the "needs a rework" position, which is what Riot ultimately wanted to do in the first place but won't come out and say it.

The guy in charge of the viktor changes is @ricklessabandon on twitter. For anybody who dislikes these changes, if he gets enough feedback (politely of course) I think he is likely to reconsider some of these changes.

I'm disappointed by the entire mage rework. It feels more like a mage nerf across the board, with the item changes. I may just be salty because they are nerfing my champion (Anivia). As far as I am aware, none of the mages have been particularly dominant enough to warrant this weird across the board nerf to mage playstyle.

Yet Zed has continued to be an incredibly toxic champion to play again, I will refrain from calling him /overpowered/ because he DOES gain a lot of his toxicity from "skilled" play. But the champion in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing with him, is at least as broken as old evelynn with a stun was for low/mid level play.

If Zed is losing lane, he can still wave clear better than any mage from under his turret. If Zed fails to pull off his attempted assassination, he will almost certainly still safely disengage with no risk of dying unless there is some heavy duty on click CC nearby (which is incredibly rare, and getting rarer with every "rework" that removes another from the game.

If Zed WINS his lane, he can very easily dominate the rest of the early, mid, and even late game if hes able to keep everyone shut down with chain kills.

Meanwhile, every itemization change seems to make Zed, and other AD assassins both more deadly in terms of their burst potential, but also offering them VERY cheap paths to build against AP.

To be brutally honest, I'm not surprised, when I heard they were doing a mage "rework", I instantly hoped that my mage of choice wasn't popular enough to end up on the list. Alas, Anivia WAS on the list, and it was about as much of a buff as I expected it to be. Did not expect the completely unwarranted Zed buffs though, and nerfs to items that were able to counter him.

It feels more like a mage nerf across the board,

It is. However, it has been shown that the placebo effect can raise a champion's success for some reason.

Maybe the mages being perceived as good again will make them do well.

Viktor is going live. They don't listen to the feedback their community gives them. Here's your proof: XinZhao

Edit: You don't even need to just use Xin Zhao, just look at Season 6 as a whole. You'll find your answer there.

"Please don't make me work to kill people, instead of just pushing E>R>Q and deleting everyone." -- basically all I see.

Over Innsmouth5 votes

You have to weave at least one AA in there as part of the Q combo. E is not the easiest skillshot in the world to land, and the effective range of that entire combo is dependent on the opponent being within 525 units (Viktor's AA range) to kill them.

Besides, a) the same can be said about almost any champion receiving nerfs/shitty reworks, and b) a good chunk of Viktor players play him for his lore and thematic, which is all about self-perfection and objective improvement - things that this rework does not do at all.

Jorencice1 votes

A laser that is slower to leave explosions does nothing to his image...

Nor does a slower ticking ult.

The Anagram King1 votes

He's being turned into a clumsy tank mage.

Jorencice1 votes

What? He didn't gain a single tanking ability...

Hes a zone control mage with superb sustained damage and decent survivability...

The Anagram King1 votes

His damage is dropping, and his shield's scaling with mana. The mage update includes mana-based tankish items.

In other words, they're turning Viktor into a tank hybrid, and weirding up his abilities to compensate. We can only hope that the itemisation stays relevant in the years to come.

Jorencice3 votes

Except his ult deals more damage in 4 seconds that his old one did in 7.

His E lost a tiny amount but his Q got massively buffed.

Basically you can't half people and farm an entire minion wave at the same time with a single spell any more.... the horror.

The Anagram King1 votes

His Q is nerfed. It's weaker, overall. The shield will be better if you buy the new items. What do you mean, buffed? :P

I don't think relying on a 2 minute CD ult is a good design choice for a skirmish-y caster, either.

At the very least, they should roll back the changes to his Ult's tick. Want to move some of the damage from his Ult to the cloud so that it's more of an AOE tool? Fine, but don't make the damage so fucking clunky.

I don't get it either, every other champion that had an ability that created a damage zone either dealt damage every 0.5 seconds, or was eventually standardized to 0.5 seconds, why teh sudden change now? It makes no sense.

Karma Deified2 votes

I'm not sure. I think there's a bit of a chance they might not go through with it, considering the champion mains seem really pissed. Or at least, if they do go through with it, they may address it quickly when the mains continue to make a fuss over it.

Riot is pretty good with listening on big changes like this,

--

--

Cassiopeia Mordekaiser Ryze Skarner XinZhao [DYNAMIC QUEUE][DEATH TIMERS][MINION BUFFS]

--

-- I think Riot knows what they're doing. Yep.

Ulquiorra9952 votes

You said it all. He's not Lee or Riven, so the answer is no.

There are only 3 ways Viktor can be even remotely viable if this passes: a.) Add Grounded to his W (making him extremely binary: have W and 100-0 someone with no counterplay, don't have it and be useless) or b.) buff his Q and W to unholy hell (unhealthy for obvious reasons) or c.) revert the fucking thing.

J3WHUNT3R14881 votes

The best part if you check Ricklessabandon's twitter, he's trying to DEFEND his shitty ass ideas. Overwhelming negative criticism and you have the BALLS to say the term "clunkiness" is getting misused instead of actually responding to the criticism.

Yes, it does. However, in this case, it's exactly what is happening. Has he even played his own rework? There is HUGE amounts of hate because Viktor feels disconnected in his own goddamn kit. He used to have synergy inbetween his skills but now each of his skills is its own inefficient unusable island.

I'd like to try them out before we just dump them.

I'm skeptical, but curious.

Over Innsmouth1 votes

That's fair, but I assume by now you've seen the changes in action?

You are absolutely not hitting anyone with that E aftershock if they have half a brain.

Solidair31 votes

Indeed, it's a drastic change. Might affect vik's buildpaths or even skill order, I don't know what the end result will be.

I am just saying I wanna try it first before I go for Riot's jugular. Maybe it'll be REAL bad. We shall see.

Ulquiorra9951 votes

I think this is one of those things you don't need to see to know how atrocious it will be. Just count how many times you saw someone something like Veigar's W or an Ekko ult on a target that wasn't under hard CC before. Now imagine a champion with 2 spells delayed like that and no reliable hard CC (no, a delayed stunfield that can be 1. dashed out of 2. countered with an item or 3, walked out of if not landed center on in some cases), and you have new Viktor.

Solidair31 votes

No, I understand. It's clear they want it to work optimally when paired with Gravity Field. And sure it can be dashed/blinked out of, but league of legends isn't a vacuum, and his field might not be the first cc down, he might have it when they have already used their mobility spell.

Who knows, maybe it will be SUPER terrible. We will see next patch, and then appropriate changes can be made where he is failing.

I am certainly skeptical, but not ready to pass judgment fully. We need to remember, there's a lot going on here other than just his E changes.

Saianna1 votes

If I remember correctly feedback for Cass rework was even harsher

Riot: "welp, who gives a fuck?"

Over Innsmouth2 votes

Don't forget how they fell short of Veigar's proper compensation for no DFG.

Vanic9981 votes

Nice pun.

Ulquiorra9951 votes

Riot obviously forgot what happened with Veigar - how after they removed half of his kit against opponents that are not asleep/high/disconnected he went straight to the trash bucket and required multiple buffs to get out. Because they are pulling same shit here - except Viktor has no infinite scaling or a reliable ult to try and keep him afloat amidst the changes massive nerfs.
