Carry as a support
Who do you think, from the "classic" support champions (meaning - not the apc mid lane or other champions that "can" be played bot lane) are the best to help you climb and make the biggest influence on the game?

Like any other class, you just need to sit down and play a bunch of games as them.
I'm a
main and this is my 2nd time making it to Gold as support, mainly with her. I've played her through the ups, and the downs, and managed to climb quickly and keep my win rate consistent. I don't think it matters which one you choose. Pick the kit and champion theme you like the best.
Playing a traditional support is a little tricky right now though. I won't lie. There are a lot of AP building supports bot lane compared to previous seasons. So if you play someone squishy, you have little room for error and will likely get zoned and lose so much XP if you play too safely.
The reason I liked
the most out of all the supports is because I typically play healing supports in MMORPGs. She fit what I was used to. I also really like being the first target in team fights and skirmishes. It allows me to bait and control the flow of the fight instead of watching my sometimes clueless carry die and having to flash away after.
That still happens from time to time due to ridiculously overpowered assassins and lethality, but a lot of the times I'm still the priority. If they don't try to kill me, then the fight goes by really quickly and easily.
I also don't think you can get by playing passively as support anymore. Last season you could, but this season you will get punished hard if you don't push back a bit. Remember that no matter who you're playing. You're not a ward robot.
The thing that sucks about playing support more than previous seasons is just how terrible our item selection is. Everything is either lackluster or overpowered/overtuned.
and
are a must right now because they're just too good for what they are.
is also a must if your champion heals/shields. That item isn't very balanced either. Riot seems to expect healing to be balanced by grevious wounds, but grevious wounds is a horrible aspect of this game. One of these days they'll have to sit down and balance healing.
Aside from those 3 items though? It doesn't matter too much what you get because everything else is lame. It's a shame too because you already have one lame item you have to buy.
Oh also never let your teammates bully you into playing something you aren't comfortable playing. If
is crying about how there's no tank, do not try to fill with people you don't know. I've done it and it always blows up in my face and that
ends up going 1/8 and you end up with your back against the wall playing something you're not skilled at while his laner TP's bot and there's nothing you could do. You have a better chance turning the game around on your main.
On top of that supports cannot fill out what the team is missing on their own because of how starved for XP and gold we are. We have our own items on top of that. You won't be as successful as a solo tank on your own. My advice is to stick to what you know, especially as support.
Any tank with CC including but not limited to

Squishy champions are useless
specifically Moo Cow
Braum is my personal favorite answer to this question. Braum is neat in that he doesn't have a lot of building restrictions. He's very broad in nature and works in a large number of teamcomps. His strategies covers a wide variety of situations, from traditional support, to diver, to split push ace. And building to support one doesn't shaft any of the others, just makes obe particularly good at the time
Tl;dr play braum, you won't regret it
This always depends on your playstyle. You like playing defensively or offensively, you are an opportunist or not, you like retaliate, you like taking risks, or not, etc. So first you need to understand what you like to do, and then you can come back for some suggestions. You also need to decide whether you want to climb or you just want to play. The first limits your choices.
As a support main who climbed last season from bronze 5 to gold 5 only playing support, I have to say Taric. His ult is game changing and his whole kit is centered around 1. being a tank, and 2. making sure your team doesn't die around you, 2 things that always seem to be a big problem when climbing in low elo.
