The new AP-magic resist item for assassins/mages

When Abyssal scepter will be reworked into a bruiser item, a new AP-MR item for assassins/mages will be introduced, but which stats will it have?

It is a bit stupid, that Riot is already sure about removing the old Abyssal without knowing about the new AP/MR item for carrys.

If it has not MR-reduction, it need more AP. 120 AP is not likely, but 100 maybe.

What about giving this item tenacity like Moonflair Spellblade? Remove 50 armor, add 50 AP, the 50 MR and 35% tenacity remains the same.

Another idea is to give this item the QSS active, and let it build out of QSS. But i am not sure, if that is a good idea.

Only high AP and MR would be a bit boring. But the item itself should do no damage. There are already Ludens, the new Abyssal, Liandries and Cinderhulk/Sunfire. These items give champions without high damage already too much damage.

Won't quote, would get too messy, but Riot doesn't technically like DMG + Resistances items where it can be avoided, mainly because, as past has showed, if it is even slightly too good, it will be abused. For example, Atma's in Season 2. We can argue "but Zhonya's exists" but it does have some sufficient counterplay to it.

Almost every champion who actually needs the current Abyssal Sceptre will be indifferent to the change - it still provides some AP, MR and now HP, which fills the niche "I need to be durable but deal some damage back in return" The likes of Mumu, Sej, Zac but not limited to: Swain, Cho'Gath, Evelynn

The only champs I can think of that don't like this change a lot would be Diana and Katarina, both whom of which I feel like they could use these changes anyways; Assassins building an item geared towards AP tanks is usually not a good sign.

Sure, the likes of Cass/Ahri/even Fiddle might not agree with it but have various other build paths that still allow them to do the role they were intended to do. It isn't very detrimental to their role, and thus, shouldn't necessarily need a replacement item, unlike when DFG was removed and left burst-casters lacking.

Guess after that ramble, what I'm getting at is that:

  1. Beyond a couple minor cases, the fringe users of AS aren't missing out on a core item
  2. New AS still fulfills the same role as it currently does. Therefore, anything added will either be pretty awful (Ohm-wrecker tier) or hilariously abuseable.

And lord knows the outcry that will unfold if Casters get yet another item catered to them, while Fighters and Supports lose items without compensation.

And why exactly do Mages need an AP/MR resist item again? I don't see AD carries (CARRIES, NOT TALKING ABOUT MELEE BRUISERS) with Damage/Resistance type items, beyond Hexdrinker, which is again, aimed at Bruisers.

Abyssal Sceptre was always aimed been towards close-range mages who needed the extra durability to combat other long-range mages (or AP tanks to deal damage while providing some utility to a magic damage team). Proof of this is when Riot nerfed Abyssal Sceptre Aura debuff because everyone and their mother was abusing it, for a short period of time

Remember when they nerfed the MR from item 3174? Its brought balance to AP mid laners.
