Why is Abyssal scepter going to be changed?

And why doesn't Riot explain Riot the reasons?

In my opinion the current AP-MR-Magic penetration itemization is fine. If you want magic penetration against squishys you buy Abyssal, If you want magic penetration against tanks, you buy Void staff. If you want MR and you are ranged you buy Athenes, if you want MR and you are Meele you buy Abyssal.

Atm Abyssal is an AP - MR - anti-squishy item for assassins and bruisers/tanks. Now Riot wants to change it into an low AP - MR - health - anti-tank item for tanks only:

> NEW EFFECT: Now grants 250 health. > Ability power reduced to 40 from 70. > Magic resistance increased to 60 from 50. > Aura removed. > NEW PASSIVE: Every 2 seconds a pulse emanates dealing 40 (+ 2 × champion level) magic damage to nearby enemies and reduces their Magic Resistance by 5% for 6 seconds, stacking up to 30%.

This means there will be not only the lack of an AP-MR item for assassins, there will be a lack of an anti-squishy penetration item too.

The new Abyssal will also be very close to Banner of Command: 40 AP - 60 MR - 250 health is very close too 60 AP - 40 MR - 200 health - 10% CDR. The difference is that Abyssals aura is aggressive, while Banner of Commands aura is defensive, but both auras are team-oriented. And at the same time Abyssal has the more defensive stats, while Banner of Command has the more aggressive stats. This doesn't make sence at all.

Why you don't change Banner of Command into your new item, and leave Abyssal as it is?

They stated that they want it to be helpful towards bruisers, not assassins.

Honestly, anything that is a Scepter should be primarily designed for a mage or king, someone who doesn't sully themselves with low combat. A Scepter is "an ornamented staff carried by rulers on ceremonial occasions as a symbol of sovereignty", not something you beat someone with, but channel through. I understand Riot wants to make an AP Black Cleaver, but maybe name it something else.

I also feel we still need a big AP/MR item other than Athene's Unholy Grail for mages who don't need to mana regen, but need to MR. Call that item the Abyssal Scepter and come up with a new name for what they have on the PBE.
