They hit Ekko where it hurts

this is so fucking useless. his stun is the least reliable part of his kit, and the fact that the duration was long was never the issue with the champion. it was actually the only part that didnt bother me, becuse you can literally walk out of the field to not get stunned.
remove the slow on his passive, tune down his waveclear, do something about him not getting the shield when he doesnt catch someone with the stun, remove the slow on his q. any of those.
They are hitting his utility.
It's a start

theyre hitting a totally unreliable part of his ulility, and imo the only part that requires actual skill to use.
in return theyre buffing his q. the ap ratio on the thing gets increased, meaning the reliable first hit of his q deals more damage.
they could have nerfed his shield instead, or remove the slow on his passive like they initially planned to. that would have been a utility nerf in the right place.

Removing the slow was the way to go.
Oh don't worry. Itll just take riot a while to reconsider. Now once Riot does reconsider that nerf, you will have to wait another patch for the changes to hit live. It's a start alright but it's a start to deal with his shit for a long time. Riot needs to just put out nerfs on live servers. If he does bad, then change it live. There is no need to be testing it on pbe
The PBE isn't to test for balance
It's only to test for stability to make sure the game doesn't literally crash the servers.

Ekko entire kit is unreliable when built with ap. That how he was intended to work. This is because most of his damage/utility was delayed or behind him(his ult). But what tank Ekko does is it gives him enough tankiness to reliably land his Q W and ult. And the damage on those skills were high because they are all hard to land
So that why that change to his W will make a diffterence, but it will also hurt AP ekko.
That's only half a second.

That's only half a second.
You'd be surprised how much can happen in a half second.
A lot can happen in half a second. Abilities can go off cd, supports can use cc, ect...
it's still very long for how easy it is to hit... cue happens at 0.5 seconds for all enemies and the area is bigger than Sona's auras, effectively if you don't have a dash, you'll have to flash out, some champions like trist, can't even completely dash out (she gets stunned mid air) IF they don't do it preemptively, meaning that if you wait for the visual cue you'll be stunned either way, so you gotta play 2 steps ahead; luckily the skill has a high cast time but still, the closer Ekko is from where he casts W, the quicker it lands...
hopefully, pulling changes from PBE is only a method for playtesting changes individually but the end result should be the sum of all the nerfs and not just this one.
He had one of (if not the) longest stuns in the game. There are a lot of issues with Ekko, but I find the problem to 3 issues. The first is his stickiness, the second his base damages, and the third his ability to escape if he begins losing a fight. We also have a slight item issue, which is why we see Tank Ekko.
and
became really great buys in the top after a few of the past patches gave them modest buffs. Now, almost every top laner aside from the juggernauts builds these items every game.
With Ekko we have a champ that is suppose to be an AP assassin/skirmisher that can build almost full tank and do loads of damage, while also being able to stay with targets he is trying to kill. Then if he begins, or thinks, he is losing a fight he can leave. Making it so a good Ekko player will rarely die and is able to kill targets through attrition and limiting their escapes
Lowering the stun duration solves only one part of the problem with this champion. I really just think his abilities need higher cooldowns and some simply need to cost more mana. This way he can't continuously spam them and "stick" to you if you are trying to escape.
IBG and SC are starting to be addressed, but people are still building them (they lowered the damage on the former and raised the cost on the latter), but I still think lowering the cost on other tank items might be better than simply nerfing these items into irrelevance again.
Top-laners have relatively limited options and I think buying based on champion, match-up, and need is very watered down in the top lane.
If they make all the changes at once with Ekko, he could be really useless, which is probably why they have been tinkering with modest changes over time. He needs to do damage and he should be able to escape and bring utility to teamfights. He should not be building tank AND doing damage AND being able to avoid death AND being able to stay on targets.
It is funny because there are so many bad Ekko players out there that can play him highly effectively. It seems like a lot of the community wants this champ nerfed into the ground, but I think it is just Tank Ekko that should be removed.
the winds are changing?
he isnt an issue
this is nothing meaningful outside of perhaps URF mode
