what happened to lux and brand supports?

i keep getting lux and brand supports that will do one of two things. the 1st thing tips their hand pretty easily. they open up with a item 1056 then play like a mid laner and take kills from me. then build more AP items so that they continue to take more kills from me as the adc. then i dont snowball and they ask why i dont have any kills? the 2nd thing they do is get a spell thief then ignore it and play like a total mid lane AP carry. taking kills and making farming hard by either taking it out right or making last hits hard. then taking the kills then saying sorry the 1st time. this behavior is often followed up by 2 more kills that they snatch from me instead of setting them up. then they try to issue a hollow meaningless sorry. at this point i go back and build support since they wanted the carry slot from the start. then they look at me like WTF and ask why did i do what i did because they have support runes on and not carry runes..... yes i know im in the cellar known as iron. how am i supposed to get better at playing with supports if they dont even try to play support? why not just ask for mid lane from the get go instead of telling the lie of wanting support. or telling the lie to get fast games...should i just join the legion of not supports asking for support? all so i can make the new bottom lane AP carry slot?

Okay so starting Dorans ring and taking cs is very dumb. Don't get me wrong.

Mage supports benefit a lot from item powerspikes, Brand spikes on Sorc Shoes, Lux spikes on Ludens. If they get these items early they force your laners back and you should be able to free farm and get turret plates.

If the enemy laners are dumb enough to walk up and die to the Brand/Lux then the Brand/Lux are just doing their job. You just have to cs and save up for Abyssal Mask your adc items, and carry later.

So you are crying because your support gets kills and that you continue trolling with a support build if that happens?

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Sorry to say that but you are ruining your own games. There is no reason to blame your support unless he is trolling on purpose. And this doesn't seem like they do.

Fact is dmg supports are common in every division and they usually have more impact on the lane and thus getting kills. Even if your support gets all kills you will be ahead of the enemy, so what's the problem?

Starting dorans ring is pretty troll, however as for the rest you need to stop thinking of your co laner as a servent. If they will do what they think promotes victory and all you can do is try to work with them. If they pester you for a lack luster score there nothing you can do about stupid. Just work with it.

However if after lane phase is over they farm waves in bot when you aren't around and wont roam with you around the map to provide much needed assistance to an adc, then you can report them for trolling.

Autofilled, probs. Not to mention that some supports feel terrible to play in this meta.

Technically they are not obliged to even let you get the CS let alone the kills. You need to focus on being able to solo carry the lane and improving your game. If you do this you will quickly get to gold and supports will start to feel a lot better. Also, play Draven, the one champ that is allowed to unleash hell on his support if they take the kill. ;) Also remember that the same "support" players will be on the enemy team too. Talking nice to them will also make them more likely to help you out, but if you don't want to do that it's not really a problem. You could also ask in the lobby what champ they are playing so if for example they pick brand or lux you can go for another AP carry like Swain/Malz as well and make the enemy bot lane feel miserable for 15 minutes.

the answer is to assume its a 1v2 all the time or play a diffrent lane or option 3 switch to support and see that all adcs in iron are just as bad as these supports and understand why they are trying to carry instead of you

here is what im taking from all the feed back. get better at your lane/role..... thats kinda hard when i get confused people who think that support = carry. one person tried to explain why the supports lie about wanting the support spot. to make it worse these people that take support but want carry act like they are god.... i dont pretend to be god or even god like. the moment the support carry takes a dorans ring i can be nice and try to work them. they showed the path they are going.

You can have good and bad mage-support players just like how you can have bad and good traditional-support players. The deciding factor is more the player than what champion is picked especially in lower elos where everything can be successful as long as you have a basic understanding of the game.

But back to mage supports, the problem I see is not that they don´t belong in botlane, but that they heavily skew the power dynamic between the 2 roles. In the best case scenario for the adcs they are both accompanied by a enchanter like lulu, which means that they can farm safely and barely have to take the enemy support into consideration while their own support transfers a lot of its power to said adc.

---> 2 strong adcs and 2 weak supports ---> adcs usually get all kills and snowball

Having two mage supports would then be the polar opposite, because not only has the adc to be super careful when farming due to the strong harass, but his own support has barely anything to bail him out if things go south, which means that the lane usually revolves around which support can force the other adc out of the lane first.

---> 2 strong supports and 2 weak adcs ---> supports usually get early kills and snowball

Both approaches are viable but the latter, while giving the support more agency, puts a lot more stress on the adc, who is now in a terrible situation as everyone still expects the adc to carry like if he was with a traditional support even when he is supposed to scale a bit slowlier due to the team having an additional dmg source, which is supposed to do most of the work in the early to mid game.

BUT this is how it´s supposed to work. I can´t tell how things are in iron. Building dorans is stupid, not upgrading the support item to the second tier is stupid and taking cs (especially when the adc is not there) would be ok and depending on how the wave stands even recommended, but with how spellthiefs punishes you for csing you are usually better off getting as little cs as possible.

I would recommend changing to a solo lane, get out of bronze and then change back to adc again. People will still play mostly mage supports, since they are the best at carrying, but at least they won´t troll. (hopefully)
