Use the same mechanic Knights Vow has to improve Gold Items for Support!

RIOT is wondering how to buff supports gold gain without making it abuseable for solo laners, and honestly, the answer is easy: Make it work like Knights Vow or Zeke's Harbinger.

The first two support items get an active that chooses a champion ( The ADC) as a partner, and then the gold gain effect (or maybe even some of the stats) only kicks in when you are close to your partner. Limitation is removed when your partner is dead and for maybe 30 seconds after he respawns, so the support doesnt suffer when the ADC dies in a gank.

Bam, you can now buff Support Items without a risk of having them abused by solo laners or junglers.

You are welcome!

sorry but as a support player i will say NO! to this. I don't need another damn MUST BUY item that limits my build heavily. It's already clogged due to item 2049 item 1001 at the bare minimum (and only if you go for one of these item 2303 item 2302 item 2301 ) otherwise that's a third must buy item. So now you want us to have a 4th must buy item? screw that!

I am talking about giving this effect to item 3302 item 3096 item 3098, not creating new items

item 3092 item 3069 item 3401 already give actives and the eye items are not going to get those type of actives without increasing the price of them by a good margin defeating the purpose of the eye items (it would also make no sense to lose that extra gold generation when going to the main items). Also this would make those 3 items have an increase in price or rebalanced around having the dumb active that they don't even need. You already get more than good enough gold from those items to begin with. Once again, NO!

Why would they get a price increase? You do realise that the price of an item is not based on the number of actives but on how much RIOT values the item. Plus the full build items wouldnt need the partner active any more, since noone would full build them unless you plan on really keeping them, and that most likeley means you are a support anyway.

Back when Support Items were abused by laners, it was always the first or second stage, never the third.

it would get a price increase due to how much extra gold you would be getting from the item. It doesn't matter whether or not someone else will build the item it still a stupid amount of extra gold you are giving them that they can use to get a fuck ton of other items with, that is HUGE!

So what you are saying is "hog the item and never upgrade it so you don't lose the extra gold" or "now you get a fuck ton of gold out of nowhere on the finished items!". You cannot go from "this item has X active" to "the upgrade of X item has it's active turned into a passive or removed for no reason whatsoever!" Also never the 3rd? >>>>>> item 3092 <<<<<<<<< ?

What you suggested has some very big implications.

By doing this, the over all amount of gold a support gets is increased significantly.

What would this mean for the support role? You might start seeing more mages at bot and traditional supports like janna and nami who work with less gold will get shafted.

Dude, out of the top 5 supports, only 2 are support champions (and one of them is Soraka...) already. Mages and Tanks replace Supports, because Supports are boring and useless.

RIOT is right now forcing players to play support by making this stupid autofill bullshit, and begging people to queue as support by making them free to play.

Barely anyone plays support, because you just have no impact on the game at all if your ADC isnt good.

Supports are considered boring and useless because they have been shafted into mediocrity for so long they literally cant do anything. Their power level is so far below any traditional champ generally that its a joke. If you buff them they run mid and wreck everything. If you dont buff them mages take over bot lane. Im basically a support main and most of my favorite champions are full tanks or full supports. The mage bot as support has always disgusted me really. Its a bad situation overall as most mage supports will offer as much utility AND actual damage on top of that. Its a literal joke.

The problem isnt in the gold input in bot lane but in the kits of the support champs. If you just throw more gold bot youll get even more mages and hyper carries bot support and traditional ones will just fall even farther out of favor. If you want traditional supports to be good again you have to make their kits work better in a duo lane scenario so they can compete with the Zyra and Brand supports.

I would almost say that the support role needs less gold than what you currently get. Edge out some of these mages and add in more utility to traditional supports. Make supports heal allies more than they do themselves. Give support items ways to buff your lane partner early. Introduce a new currency you only got for supports for support items that you only get while not taking cs and having a support item.

Well, another idea would be to make supports scale next to nothing with Items (HOnestly, I have no idea who thought that SCALING CC for supports was a good idea...) and therefore make them unable to abuse big farm, but in return, make their utility unmatched by anyone.

Since this would make them totaly unable to use AP or AD, it would also give a good chance to make support Items, that offer not much in stats, no damage potential at all, but powerfull utility abilities.

An obvious problem: when you upgrade these items, they get their own active.

Raoul1 votes

Yeah, but only at the third level, and noone who doesnt plan on actually using these items as a support would actually pay to have them full build. When you finish the support item, the limitation is no longer needed and therefore it can be replaced with the active of the real item.

Except I usually rush item 2303 as my first big purchase.

Thats still buying 2200 gold, and if they go that far, its really not abusing the item any more, since they spend alot of money for it. If they are willing to invest that much gold, I say let them have the bonus gold xD
