How many champions is too many champions?

At 126 champions released for LoL I was just sort of wondering what the general consensus was for how many champions should there be. I personally think 90 would've almost been a great stopping point and they shouldn't have released 40 champions within 2 years, but it happened so we gotta deal with it. But now that we are past that point I think 140 might be a good place to stop at with maybe 1-2 champs released a year after that.. Because as it is now we are having a ton of champions being hardly played. So I was just wondering what others thought.

The reason why we play so few champions is not because there are too many. It's simply the new/overloaded ones outshine 10-15 another effectively rendering them useless and not worth picking.

It's questions like this which make me appreciate that not every champion isn't unlocked right away.

Imagine how overloaded the new players could get if exposed to like 200+ champions in their first day some time in the future.

On one hand, I don't particularly want them to stop making new champions. I'd rather have new ones every three months than once or twice a year. On the other hand, I've been playing for 13 months and still don't know all of the champions' kits. There's definitely going to be a point where there are so many champions that it's too daunting to start playing.

I think this is actually why they're updating so many more champions.
