shaco changes and how i would handle it

the current changes for shaco

Two-Shiv Poison (E)
Base Damage changed from 5/35/65/95/125 to 50/75/100/125/150
AD Ratio changed from [75% total AD] to [60/75/90/105/120% bonus AD]
Damage type changed from magic to physical
[new] Now deal up to 50% additional damage based on target's missing health
[removed] No longer deals 3 - 8% missing health damage based on character level

this change will result in a nerf to bruiser shaco (good change, this build should be the worst shaco build as he is meant to be an assassin) who has less bonus ad and relied on the missing health damage to do damage for it

it will result in a nerf to ap and ad shaco (very bad change because he is an assasin) if the target builds 30 or more bonus armor which most enemies do now days thanks to ad building item 3026 , ap building item 3157 and then tanks being tanks, on top of armor being more common than MR

for ap shaco it results in a situational buff of preventing a full damage shut down by building mr items against him IN LANE as his E will do physical damage now

this is a nerf to ap and ad shaco vs tanks

this is a nerf to lethality shaco as he has less bonus ad to make his E match old E damage ratios

overall the only build that can see a situational buff from this change is ap shaco, but it also forces certain items out of the ap build like ludens as an example

unless they plan on making some uber QoL changes to hix boxes this will result in a very noticeable net nerf for shaco

sure its 'not as bad' as some claim its a relatively small nerf in most cases, but taking into account shaco was more effective as a bruiser/tank than an assassin the nerf is uncalled for for how it will basically cripple assassin shaco vs any1 who built any form of armor regardless of if he is ap or ad shaco

my suggestion is this

put these changes through with this bit added to it

shaco's backstab and Two-Shiv Poison now cause boxes to prioritize that target for 2 seconds if they re in range

shaco boxes now have 6 ward health taking 1 damage from minions, lesser monsters, and aoe effects, 2 damage from direct attacks, 3 damage from larger monsters, and 6 damage from towers and epic monsters

shaco boxes are no longer forced to activate by control wards and sweeper lens but while under these effects they will not fear when activated

shaco Q CD is rest if he kills or assists in the kill of an enemy champion

this does 4 things that the comming NERF doesnt do

  1. gives shaco more control of his dps
  2. makes him no longer have a 100% counter to an ability in his kit that has a lot of his power budget invested into it (boxes) [meaning you cant just use sweeper / control ward and THAT kills the boxes for you, you actually have to kill them now or leave them for later when they could be a problem again. and his boxes wont die wihtout the enemy even noticing them (ive had this happen plenty of times vs champions with decent [not even strong] aoe, like riven, talon, alistar, lee, tristana, exc.)
  3. gives him a reward for proper plays and a form of safety in team fights that other assassins who do more damage and aoe damage at that have
  4. it doesnt buff bruiser/ tank shaco in any significant way as that builds boxes do minimal damage, he doesn't set box traps up, and bruier shaco usually lives long enough to see a Q CD come back up already

Amazing analysis. Couldn't have put it better myself. Made a post earlier this week about how this is pretty much the end of AP Shaco as it cripples his item build in terms of on magic damage proc items. Still trying to make it work Top, but the lack of early damage is really painful unless the opponent is brain dead and falls for chasing into boxes.

I may have Even have one suggestion that might work for both AD and AP. If the leading scaling was then made magic or physical for his E. For instance if AP shaco and has more AP in than AD than E is magic damage and only apply the AP scaling damage. Vise Versa if you were AD then E is a physical with AD scaling being the damage added.
