Eye of the Equinox as a Jungle Item

The new sightstone items seem a bit bad on most supports, but this one's a bit interesting to me. The stats on it are pretty good, it's basically a superior ruby sightstone, 500 HP is quite good and for 2200 gold it's a very efficient item. Most supports probably won't want it because buying it means sacrificing FotM and they're unlikely to generate enough gold to get more items to make it worth it and where tank junglers come in.

Tank junglers don't run into the exclusivity problem since they don't build FotM and smite items no longer have bonus gold. This means that they can build Equinox without actually sacrificing any of their items. In addition it gives them extra gold when they gank. It's kind of like a reverse SotAG, you generate charges as you farm and then pay them off after you gank, it's no small amount of gold either, You'll get 80-100 gold after a gank.

Of course it competes with the new Tracker's Knife item, but I actually think it may have a small edge here. With ADCs getting so powerful the value of red smite goes up, buying Equinox allows you to go red smite without forsaking vision in some way.

Anyway this is just my theory on how jungle tanks will develop into the next season. I'm still not entirely sure how it will go but this seems at least plausible to me.

Well the ideal thing about them is that supports don't have to waste two item slots on a gold item and sightstone, but I really miss the active from face of the mountain

I was getting really excited about this plus cinderhulk, then I realized one gold income item.

Then I looked at it, and now I am trying to figure out if jungle items count as gold income items.

It definitely looks like an attractive option for junglers, although I'm not sure if purchasing the Relic/Targons will set a hard-pressed jungler back too far - meaning it could be too late for a "gank tax" item by the time you pick it up, although it would help pushing in a mid game build.

In my opinion, the Sightstone upgrades need something to compete with Warding Totem, let alone the other tier-3 support options. Warding Totem recharges - meaning the only thing Sightstone offers over Warding Totem is the ability to dump 3 wards in quick succession instead of 2. Perhaps if Sightstones replenished 1 Ward Charge when you kill a ward.

You can rush this item instead of your jungle item upgrade. It gives hp regen so you you wont need the jungle upgrade for sustain as badly.

I can imagine ganking with targons gives interesting interactions, you can more easily shove waves and heal your laners, and yourself.

Something to keep in mind about the changes to the jungle is that the jungle monsters now give more gold to account for gold lost from the jungle items, so the lost gold gen from the jungle items isn't as big a deal.

Eye of the Equinox I think would be an interesting item to pick up, but probably won't be too great. Just think of when you are going to build it and who you will build it on.

If you are playing a tank jungler or an AD jungler that runs devourer, you won't get this until you get your second item because for those champions need to rush their jungle enchant (Cinderhulk and Devourer, respectively). That leaves Eye of the Equinox not being built until the mid-game, which doesn't help too much because Targon's passive doesn't scale well into the mid-late game when your team's carries will likely one-shot the enemy minions.

AD junglers that run warrior are a different story because they can afford to delay their warrior to get Eye of the Equinox while also being able to gank frequently enough in the early game to get Targon's stacks off. However, not every AD jungler will want to build Sighstone. That might change next season because of the removal of sight wards, but at the same time junglers also have Tracker's Knife as an option for wards, and that competes heavily with Sightstone.

It has potential, but I don't think it would become meta as Riot already did a thing for Junglers that serves as Sightstone called Tracker's Knife. It gives two wards to place and that's pretty much the only unique thing about it. Trailblazer is gone since Jungle monsters become weaker and there's more sustain option for Junglers like Refillable Potion and it's upgrade: Hunter's potion. Poacher's is also removed because you know, it fucking sucked all season.

So other than that, I would only get sightstone if I went Stalker's or Skirmisher's with a Cinderhulk enchant. Although this for the upgrade instead of Ruby Sightstone (in s5 it will reduce item CD by 10%) does seem rather interesting for how you can use the Spoils of War. Other than that, I would rather get Tracker's Knife over this in any other circumstance as the Spoils of War would only be viable depending if you plan to play heavy aggressive with laners.
