Why does Riot not use all of the forms of cc very often?

Spice POWAH··1 votes·1,015 views

I never understood why, if Riot puts cc on a champ, it's either: A) A stun B) A root C) A slow D) A displacement

Then they have very few of other types of debuffs. If I remember correctly, there's only: 1 Champ with an actual blind Teemo 1 Champ with Grounding (even after a big deal was made of it) Cassiopeia 1 Champ with Charm (although this can be excused for thematic reasons)

And very few of Taunts, Silences or Fears and other unnamed CC. They're already there, why not use them?

Probably because a lot of those alternative CCs are kind of toxic. I mean, who likes playing against Malzahar? Why is summoner 1 not allowed to work on suppress?

People hate playing against malz for reasons besides his silence though. I left suppression out of my list because it's supposed to be more difficult than regular cc to cleanse and is left only on ultimates.

I mean, it doesn't sound like a very fun experience if you could get chain blinded by the likes of multiple Teemo. And if you've ever played against a good Fiddlesticks, the perpetual fearing gets old really fast.

I think these forms of CC are kept to a minimum because chaining abilities like that would be ridiculously frustrating. When you get CC'd like this you feel like you've lost entire control of your character and there's no counterplay. With stuns you know there's still a possible window to GTFO when it ends, and with slows/snares/roots you can still cast. The only alternative CC that might be healthy if it became more commonplace is grounding.

that's the thing though, stuns make your character completely unable to do anything too except cleanse/qss, but blinds, silences and fears are considered too toxic/annoying for some reason, even though the counterplay is the same or easier to deal with, in some cases. I don't get it.

Well, stuns often require you to get up close and personal with the enemy, with the exception of only a few abilities like Leona and Ashe ult. (And those are skillshots.) So there's a risk to applying stuns.

All these other forms of CC are often ranged/AOE.

these other forms of CC don't have to be ranged/aoe, though, so it can't simply be a lack of design space.

item 3140 does

Hauling Ashe1 votes

I know that. But the fact that an item you can buy is more effective than a spell that takes up a precious summoner slot is nonsensical. I mean, how many people in your games last week picked summoner 1 for a spell?

ReZisT Lust1 votes

At least his ult doesnt get negated for free and 75 goldTeemo item 3364 item 2055, and i hadnt played in a week since my laptop stopped working randomly and iv only been able to play so i can get content onto a channel i help with

Teemo's ult is still provides an advantage, even in that case, because it forces the enemy team to sacrifice a LOT of map vision just to disable his ult.

i mean when its later in the game and thyere aleady in base they dont lose much map pressure. Also when someone all ins teemo just pop oracles and boom your good to go

I don't see how anyone's ult is going to be too relevant at that point. It's more a problem with this 25-minute meta than it is with the types of wards people have.

ReZisT Lust1 votes

One of teemos better points is that he can defend base by supers and champs by making his base a mine field and dealing his dmg that way.a ward can negate all of it

It doesn't? Qss works

Because supression also functions as a silence, meaning you can't use summoner spells, including cleanse.

Chogath Fiddlesticks Garen Malzahar Seem to be the only champions with silence. Several more used to have it, until it was removed due to being annoying or unbalanced.

Taunts and fears are actually fairly widespread. Volibear Shaco Shen Nocturne Fiddlesticks Hecarim Galio Rammus Warwick

Spice POWAH1 votes

Soraka Also has a silence. my point is that even though some were removed for various reasons (cutthroat, rip Kassadin silence) they can still be used for other champs where it would fit.

Can someone please explain to me the difference between a Taunt and a Charm?

A Basic Island1 votes

Charm has a pretend slow (or real idk ) attached to it

Memeguel4201 votes

oooooh ok thanks!

BladeSteel1 votes

Taunt they will attack you and can't use spells. Charm they just walk towards you slowly not able to do anything (not attack or use spells)

ReZisT Lust1 votes

Taunt makes you auto whoever taunted you, while charm makes you walk closer to the ahri

ReZisT Lust1 votes

Teemo Should have an aoe charm for thematic purposes

It's just about helping everyone in the game have the most fun. Soft CC is less satisfying to give and often more frustrating to receive, but hard CC gives a more noticeable effect and more appreciable results.

Riot came up with a bunch of different kinds of CC, but found that some of them just aren't fun to play against. With the exception of Soraka, every silence is extremely old, and they have been gradually removing it from the game. Blinding is really frustrating to play against and hard to notice, so they took it away from quinn and haven't put it on any new champions.

Stuns and roots feel more visceral and satisfying on both sides. Getting stunned sucks, but getting blinded can feel even worse because it is so hard to notice. Soft CC like slows, silences, and blinds also tend to last longer to make up for their lack of potency. Getting silenced for 3 seconds can drag a fight out a lot longer, and even be more frustrating than a 1 second stun, but it doesn't feel as satisfying for the one doing the silencing.

Grounding is a new form of CC, during Riot's wave of counters to mobility creep (soraka E, cassio w, poppy w, taliyah e, etc.) so it isn't surprising it hasn't made it onto a new champion yet, but I hope it will.

Like already mentioned, some of these CC's were actually on other kits but they got removed because they were too powerful. For example: Quinn used to have the same blind like Teemo. She is intended to excel at dueling, but she was actually too good at it with that CC, so they replaced it with nearsight (which is pretty rare, too).

They will put the CC in the kit that just fits thematically. How many champions were developed in the past where some of this CC had made sense? Not many. But if it fits, they will do it. Like Warwick's rework. Fear is not that common, but it fits his theme and so they put a fear on his E.

So don't worry, I am sure we will see some of them on kits in the future. It just has to fit the character.
