As Much as I agree with our Chat Standards

The application is a mess. We have a chat filter option, as well as a mute option, except now some things are filtered automatically (why have filter?) and the mute button has been swept under the rug in favor of reporting anyone you feel said anything negative.

It makes even less sense that typing something possibly offensive has been given more priority of punishment than purposely ruining a game by trolling.

So, we have a chat filter and mute button that lets us control the type of language we wish to deal with in game. Riot has given us tools to handle language we don't like, but then they started editing words out and now chat offenses are more serious than trolling....

THIS MAKES NO FKN SENSE

why even bother having mute, or filter, if talking in game is being witch-hunted by Riot and SJW players but ALLLLLL the players trolling are skating by silently? I fail to see where the logic is in regulating our community. Sure, you've made it clear some words are unacceptable. I can't disagree with a line being drawn, but NOTHING IS IMPROVING. The boards are still flooded with the same "chat" problems. Toxic players this, toxic players that, use your mute button, blah blah. If people didn't want to use the chat functions to make their experience more akin to what they want, that's on them at this point. I love my fuckin mute button. My mute button has no control over trolls though

At this point we're only catering to a demographic of "people who get offended by words" instead of taking out trolls that ruin the game for the entire player base. If you're offended you have tools in PLAYER CONTROL. Why are all the resources being wasted on something PLAYERS CAN CONTROL WITHOUT RIOT? Why are there not announced ban waves for trolls?

WTF IS EVEN GOING ON? XD

Trolling is subjective and sometimes only the observers opinion determines someone is trolling whereas verbal is less subjective and much easier to identify with toxicity.

Personally I think if they can automatically filter out comms, then what they should do is let the system automatically disable a users messages for the game duration if they pass a threshold of toxicity in comms and then the system should automatically deal with the offender after the game without the need for a report.

This way, the system mutes the offender for everyone eliminating the disruption in the case of verbal.

thats a good idea too. I understand its a difficult problem to tackle trolling, but does that mean its not worth tackling? I question the resource focus, despite what's easier

I think it is worth tackling, but the difficulty imo is that sometimes people try to "build" what they feel is viable but its not or appears like a troll build, inexperienced players may get into a game solo or queue with friends into a tier and level of difficulty that causes what looks like inting.

Griefing another player by denying your team objectives or taking cs, or swiping a buff from your jungle or mid etc is something that can be reviewed but in this case it would have to be viewed in context because who really owns those buffs, it is not against the rules for toplane to take blue, or red for that matter. its only meta and meta always changes.

Who is the victim and who is the offender, when two players fight for a buff, who really owns the buff and who was fighting for it. Is it wrong for jungle to tax, or another lane to move into your lane and tax after a gank or even no gank...

now, easy ones are telling the enemy what your team is doing to enable the enemy to have advantage. That can be viewed easily via chat.

Those are the types of things that vids solve but I think they are too complex for ai to interpret so it would take someone actually watching a game not just highlights to understand what is really happening.

Its a big undertaking and I think that is when multiple reports would come in and eventually the player would be banned/restricted. There needs to be a pattern to ensure that the outcome is one that is justified and not mistaken to be griefing or trolling, it could sometimes be inexperience.
