Armor, Magic Resist waaaay too useless.

I can never find a good reason to build anything but HP. What's the deal with all of this crazy damage that bypasses all resistance?

Just gonna throw this in here: 1400 HP, 95 armour and if I recall correctly 75? Magic resist has been removed from tank items

Armor/Magic penetration is way too abundant IMO. It should be costlier to build these items (lesser other benefits on the items)

TBH that’s partly why fighters build mostly hp now instead of resists.. I miss when you’d build one or two solid damage items then finish your build with the selection of situational tank items. Now you just build the exact same damage/health items every single game.. :(

It's a balance of both. A good rule of thumb is to prioritize Health Early game and then Armor/Magic Resist Mid/Late game as those are where they are effective at. If you want an optimized build, it's best to look into a balance of Resistances and Health to find that sweet spot that barely gets damaged. The reason why you may feel that Armor and Magic Resist aren't as useful as they are may be due to Armor Penetration / Magic Penetration on the enemy team. Armor and Magic Resist are countered by penetrating abilities such as Jarvan IV's Q or Yasuo R, while building Health is countered by %hp damage such as Brand Passive or Blade of the Ruined King. To cover the weakness of penetration, people would prioritize health and to counter the weakness of %hp damage, people would prioritize resistances but that doesn't mean they don't completely exclude the other defense option from their build, hence, balance of both. There's a few exceptions that blast through both such as Vayne W that is both True Damage (Anti Resistance) and %Hp (Anti HP) at which case you just need to forsake defenses and get damage so you kill her before she kills you or when they have so much flat + %penetration with an %hp damaging ability such as Evelenn's weird Dash ability that drops their MR hard and does %hp damage. To find the best path would require a lot of work into theory crafting so it's best to leave that up to the meta players create around their champions + guides but I hope I addressed your question.

item 3153 Hello.

There is 4 items that reduce mr or armor by a % and one rune that does true damage. There is also like 15 champions that have true damage built into there kit and only a small percentage of that can do it consistently. So no there is not a crazy number of damage going through resistances.

As a Talon and Diana player. you building only offense and hp, gives me easy wins.

Keep up the good deeds and giving me free wins :D

Its called the overbuffed and cheap itemization Lethality and the overbuffed magic penetration and the fact any mage can buy Void Staff, when Burst Mages, Battle Mages and AP Assassins should not be able to.

Magic resist more useless

The problem is that these items that are targeted towards bypassing resistances were buffed that way when we had a tank meta and tanks were too strong. Riot nerfed tanks but left the items the same which has now turned into a damage meta that still had tank destroying items on people that do stupid amount of damage.

Don't get me wrong I know some champions are designed to be tank busters and should be good vs tanks, i.e. Darius/Vayne. It's part of the draft strategy, but not every champion should be a tank buster. Riot needs to recognize that the combo of runes, items, and true damage/%HP damage kits is what made this damage meta. And they should tone down the resistance bypassing items/kits that would already solve alot of this meta or least help it.

Edit: I would like to see assassins have resistance bypassing (not true damage) early on but not late game scaling. Kind of like the idea behind Juggernauts (high base stats, bad scaling), but for resistance bypass instead of overall stats. Would put them into a feast or famine style gameplay when it comes to fighting tanks. Because assassins should not be great at killing tanks mid/late game unless ahead, they should be finding flanks to kill the squishy damage dealers in the back. Everyone else should not have resistance bypassing in their kit and should rely on items to do so.

waaaay too useless

Compared to being useless just enough

Lovelle3/21/2019, 7:01:11 PM1 votes

Completely agree. Used to love building item 3025 item 3110, but armor feels useless without health attached to it.

It sucks, because I like CDR but, as a juggernaut or tank I can't afford to give up survivability for it. Divers, skirmishers and ranged champions don't have to make any sacrifices to cap CDR, which is quite frankly bullshit.

ÈvilMorty3/21/2019, 7:49:58 PM1 votes

Tanks only have a small window of between 20-25min into a game where playing a tank actually makes you feel like a tank. Then any damage champ gets a 3rd item and your armor and mr values caps out at 3 items then suddenly your just a second hp bar for any dps champ with life steal.

InSomniã3/22/2019, 6:44:32 AM1 votes

It's called learning to end the game faster if you're playing a tank. Tanks are early-mid game and that's where you abuse your strength. You obviously don't know the struggle of killing someone who rushes Ninja Tabi on first back into a Bramble Vest on second back while you're playing an AD champion.

Think about how your opponent is going to build penetration items as well, the player that's melting you isn't going to be buying a Lord Dominik's Regard as first item, no one does. Almost every champion will buy their 1-3 core items + boots and then buy Armor penetration afterwards.

You could honestly flip this argument around with "Lethality items waaaay too useless" in this meta where everyone is addicted to buying resistances and the "play safe to win" mentality. Ever try playing Lethality Rengar vs an Ezreal that builds Gauntlet + Tabis? Your full combo does less than 50% of his hp. Saddest thing to see honestly.
