Did the leveling system change matchmaking?

Just wondering cuz i'm silver 4 but i get matched against diamond players alot lately. Just played a game where me and my friends wanted to have some fun so i went ezreal supp with sona as "adc" but full ap. turns out our plans got foiled cuz their adc was diamond 5 and support was around plat they said (i checked the adc's profile they weren't lying).

this game was actually pretty close too so it kinda felt bad knowing these players shouldn't even be matched against me. it's not the first time either i had to play against a diamond thresh a while ago.

I've had this happen in aram but i figured they just barely play aram then.

Normal MMR is different from ranked MMR as far as I know. Since the season ended I'm guessing that you're seeing a change in your opponent's ranking due to players that used to queue for ranked now queueing for normal instead.

I've also noticed this myself, though on ARAM. Before the season ended I was often matched against gold-diamond and I usually had silver-gold team mates but since the season ended I'm seeing a lot more platinum and diamond players in both teams while my w/l ratio remained the same.

Things will probably "go back to normal" once the new season starts.

Yeah i was used to this on aram, even been matches with a player who was masters. I figured it was cuz i played it a ton my aram mmr was above average, which led to higher rank Players who never played it being matches with me.

I still think this is a flaw in the system though. I don't get why we match purely on mmr and not a mix of both rank and mmr.

Shoulda thought about this before posting,lmao. thanks for the answer anyway.
