How to improve my macro play?

Hello. I've been playing League of Legends since about 2013, or whenever season 3 ended. It's one of my favorite games, even now. However, I seem to be hardstuck in gold. For a very long time I would blame my teammates. Win lane, lose game seemed to be a very common trend. Quite often do I have the best KDA in the game, the most damage to champions, the most damage to turrets, etc. My mechanics are pretty good, which is why I win lane a lot, I believe. Admittedly my CSing is quite poor lol.

However, after a 9(?) game loss streak where in the majority of the games I was fed out of my mind, I noticed something. I have no ability to shotcall. I have no gamesense. I win lane and snowball hard, sure. But I have no idea how to translate that lead. I do not know when to baron, when to split, when to take inhibs, when to back off, how to track the enemy jungler, etc. Instead, I sit around and brainlessly follow the calls around me, hoping to god that they're the right move at that moment. I believe this is why I'm losing a lot of my games. Call me arrogant, pompous, whatever you like, but I think I would be better off learning how to shotcall and improving my general macro play then listening to our 0-12 Ezreal's shotcalls, lol.

Any advice?

Word of warning for those who may look at my profile. I have an INSANE amount of Ekko games with a sub-50 winrate. I am well aware of this fact. Please do not suggest I stop playing Ekko. He is my favorite champion by far and I always have the most fun playing him.

Honestly, the best way to improve your macro understanding of the game is to watch some professional matches and to listen to the shout casters discuss events as they unfold. They will often explain the reason a team is taking a particular action and what that action might hope to accomplish.

You can find all sorts of vods on youtube. Years and years worth if you're interested.

The first step to improving is realizing that you aren’t good at something. That being said the only real advice I can give you on the forums is to go watch challenger level players. Macro play is one of the most difficult things to understand in LoL and nobody is absolutely perfect at it. Personally I watched a lot of Bjergson (and to a lesser extent LS) to see how he prioritizes map rotations and when he splits/groups. Outside of watching pros I would really suggest having a high diamond-challenger breakdown your games to point out macro mistakes so that you can fix them.

This one is actually really helpful when used in tandem with watching pro level matches OP. And league makes it pretty easy now since you can save your replays in client.

Your stats are averaging around the D5 mark so I'm really not sure how you're losing games, it's considerably harder to carry on Ekko in low elo too due to many people not knowing what he does or how to play around him.

If you secure baron you should send your most useless player in your team to split while you 4 mid, if they get baited into answering him that'll give you a free inhibitor, if they answer you then you rotate top with him and take free towers. Macro can be easily understood when you look at your map and see where your minions are because that's where the enemy minions are, you as Ekko shouldn't be answering the side lanes but should be roaming between them for free picks, adding absurd amounts of pressure until the enemy towers crumble.

So you're gonna have to take the reigns, focus on drakes and baron primarily and understand what wave is going to do what to build up passive pressure, not much more I can say just from lookin at op.gg

I did champions that Require Macro to win. TwistedFate Shen Ashe for example all require good map awareness. Learn how to communicate shot calling so it feels like a team decision, don't say, WTF GROUP YOU SCRUBS Try stuff like, hey guys I think we can win teamfights, should we group? If you ask teammates for opinions a lot of folks will agree with a good shot call, then the odd man out usualy sucks it up cuz its a team majority decision rather then some rando shot calling they might disagree with.

Supports a good class to play to work on vision control.

Tanks are good for learning to impact teamfights, CC the right target or fail @ that and you see huge impact on your efficiency.

Barrons best taken when your ahead enough to take it, or the enemy team is down several champions and you don't have time for an inhibitor. honestly id rather take towers and inhibitors over barron most the time. You can win close games with 0 barrons, its hard to win close games with 0 hibitors dead.

Wait until this trash season is over to try to improve as a whole.
